Fogerty, John - Jambalaya (On The Bayou) Lyrics

Goodbye, Joe, me gotta go, me oh my oh.
Me gotta go, pole the pirogue down the bayou.
My Yvonne, sweetest one, me oh my oh.
Son of a gun, gonna have big fun on the bayou.

[CHORUS:]
Jambalaya and a crawfish pie and fillet gumbo
'Cause tonight I'm gonna see my ma cher amio.
Pick guitar, fill fruit jar and be gayo,
Son of a gun, gonna have big fun on the bayou.

Thibodeaux, Fontaineaux, the place is buzzin',
Kinfolk come to see Yvonne by the dozen.
Dress in style, go hog wild, and be gayo.
Son of a gun, gonna have big fun on the bayou.

[CHORUS:]
Oh, guitar!

[CHORUS]

Oh, Lord!
Hang tight, ooh Lord!
Ah, take it out.
He's comin', ah!

  56. E.... ....

I love this, John, but surely by now you know how to pronounce Thibodaux. T - no h - short I - buh - doe. From a long time CCR fan who grew up 30 miles from there. You probably did it on purpose this time. That's how we finally figured out that CCR wasn't a South Louisiana band. 🤗

  57. J.... B....

A whole 'nuther animal than Jo Stafford's version of 1952.

  58. A.... S....

My dad has this record I stole it from him John Fogerty kicks ass! I like this version it kicks ass to me.

  59. M.... F....

Maravillosa canción de este señor tan querido y admirado en mi tierra : México , su sensacional estilo es y será por siempre el alma y escencia de Creedence Clearwater Revival.

  61. T.... H....

Great music, bought the album when it came out and is best played LOUD!

  62. A.... B....

I like to pick guitars, fill fruit jars and be gay-oh! :-)

  63. D.... S....

Love this song, brings me back to when I was a little boy.

  64. J.... B....

This its a Wonderful Song I was kid when it's relaxed

  65. H.... ....

I can understand why Fogerty was frustrated with Creedence. He didn't need any of them.

    H.... ....

It took him 2 years to make this one album by himself. With his band it could have been four months.

    H.... ....

@Karl Fisher his ban mates fucked him they sided with the record company that sued john for sounding like ccr that because he was ccr john was the only voice i heard

    H.... ....

he got sued for sounding like ccr when he was solo. his band mates were assholes

    H.... ....

His brother was in the band.

    H.... ....

@Jeffrey Menz yes and all three fucked john over they sold there votes in ccr to the record company so john could not do shit and the other fucks could do what they wanted john got sued for sounding like ccr

  66. V.... ....

Such songs make you want to learn & roll
Great tribute to legend Hank Sr though

  67. M.... A....

Freddy fender also sings this song

  68. c.... ....

I saw Fogerty twice in Sydney, in approximately 2004 and in 2009. Both concerts were near-flawless but at his 2nd concert to my pleasant surprise he performed this classic! Best concerts i have attended.

My greatest idol of the century.THE ONLY JOHN FOGERTY ALLMIGHTY

  71. S.... H....

Great version. Saw him perform this live back in the late 70s in Orlando. He was unfortunately slurring his words a bit and most in attendance felt cheated that we paid good money to watch him get get drunk rather than perform. He flipped a bird at his own fans when they showed their displeasure. Unfortunate that he let us down.

    S.... H....

Not sure who you saw but John Fogerty did not tour from the breakup of CCR in 72  until the mid 80s. Their was no tour behind this album or the self titled album in 1975. The Hoodoo album was scrapped in 76 and John went into a long dark period full of legal troubles with Fantasy Records & didn't come out from that until 1985s Centerfield.

    S.... H....

I don’t believe you saw John Fogerty drunk or even drinking alcohol during a performance, let alone flipping the bird to the audience! No way. John Fogerty has too much integrity to do this.

  72. r.... m....

Funny thing. Doug, Stu and Tom loved this kinda music.

  73. H.... C....

Yo whaddup with all these mexicans in this comment section

  74. J.... K....

The greatest, And the real meaning of a one man band, played every instrument, and just dubbed it, Until it was perfect, One reason why the original Band Members where upset with him, He wanted to be right, But it cost him at the end of the greatest group CCR, But great musicians don't go away, they fight for all they believe in, which are the devoted fans, long after our age group is gone, The Fogerty music will be heard for the meaning of the belief in yourself, and the true definition on Great heart pounding, sounding Rock&Roll

    J.... K....

The thing i always loved about ccr is i loved all the songs on all their albums. Cosmos Factory was one of the 1st records i bought when i was about 13. Then i got the born on the bayou album(one of my fav's)then my mom bought me 4 more from jc penney(they had a pretty good catalog of music for sale) at $2.99each ( was that a long time ago or what). The music sounds just as good today. Fogerty is just a musical genius. Thanks to whoever posted this.

  75. B.... K....

Wow...haven't heard this since I was a little boy back in the early 70s. There was this restaurant in our small town, that had a jukebox...remember those? I kept plugging it full of quarters because of this song, "Jambalaya". I had heard the original by Hank Williams Sr., prior to this, many a time. My folks loved country, so I grew up loving rock, country, pop......I loved Hank's version, then this cover came out and thought it was soooo great and cool. One of the best covers, ever! John gave the song that Fogerty/CCR flavor to a country classic. I'm sure some got a bit weary hearing the song playing over and over in that diner...but I didn't care, I loved it! The sound from that old jukebox was loud and pure...and is the best way to hear the song...LOUD! ;) Sure brings back a flood of good memories, and of a simpler, happy time..... ;)

    B.... K....

@Wicked Red Sure was quite the time...and a fun one! We must have been separated at birth! ;D

    B.... K....

Któż tej piosenki nie śpiewał ?
Żegnaj, Joe, muszę już lecieć, och, mówię ci
Muszę już lecieć, wybieram się łodzią po rozlewisku
Z moją najsłodszą Iwoną, och, ja i ona
Słuchaj stary, będziemy mieć świetną zabawę nad wodą

Będzie paella i pasztet z raków i gulasz,
Krewni przychodzą tuzinami, by zobaczyć Iwonę
Elegancko się ubierają, imprezują na całego
Słuchaj stary, będziemy mieć świetną zabawę nad wodą

Będzie paella i pasztet z raków i gulasz,
Bo dziś wieczorem mam randkę z moją dziewczyną
Weźmiemy gitarę, kosz owoców i będziemy się weselić
Słuchaj stary, będziemy mieć świetną zabawę nad wodą
