Fogelberg, Dan - Sketches Lyrics

Late in the summer
When the cottonwood dies
The fields are on fire
With green bottleflies
And I'm still seeing reflections
Of me in your eyes
And why did you leave
Last summer?

Now, the seasons are changing
From summer to fall
And I've still got that picture
Hung on my wall
And there's so much forgotten
And too much recalled
And why did you leave
At all?

Standing beside you
Mid-winter day
Hearts beating close
Together.

Wishing that we'd found
Someway to make
That moment last
Forever.

Standing silent-laughing-
Breathing steam
Gazing down into a freezing stream...
I saw the face of a child
I saw the face of a child.

If u dont I understand this song....then u have never loved and been hurt. Even after 30 years of hearing it.....still gives me butterflies and goose bumps.

  3. 1.... ....

    Master of the haunting melody.....

Dan had an insight into the human soul & condition that few can claim. This whole album seems to have been created from a hurting soul that was experiencing the gamut of emotions.
    Exquisite beyond words.

  5. M.... B....

    masterful.

What a song. Dan saw what was inside me South of Cleveland Autumn October 1981... spooky spooky spooky beautiful Ballad by a gentle musical genius...here it is almost 40 years....God in Heaven it's still living inside...True Love....haunting... Dan's brilliant ghost song.

  7. L.... G....

Absolutely exquisite, he had one of the most beautiful voices of all, Illinois, our boy!

I guess we all already know one angel up there?..Sure he got his wings

Is there anyone that can write lyrics and music with this kind of depth today? "and I still see reflections of me in your eyes.. wishing that we found some way to make that moment last forever".

    C.... G....

Not sure about creating the variety of instrumentation, that DF created, but Lowen and Navarro created some really nice honest songs about love and life. Musically, they're sort of like a male verion of the Indigo Girls.

Chris Gabler, not just today - try "ever"!

Most memorable lyrics, music and poetic longing and remembrance. No song writer has done it better in describing the heart's emotions. The amazing thing about Dan's music is how it echoes in your thoughts long after you last heard the song.

Some events memories Minor 3rds Minor 7ths disappear as half dollar snow flakes kiss a hot window pane.

I lost all my books albums cassettes on my return to the house that held all the words notes and beautiful Ballad of Dan's unreal spooky realism to True Love.

Not many humans will release the gift from Heaven. l released my grip and allowed the memory to flow back to the heavens from which it came. My hands are open - not clenched...this is my favourite Love Song of All Time...70s 80s....I am in late Summer when the Maples Oaks Willows Elms the entire forests in October 1981 are releasing all of their short life span Reds Yellows Coppers Orange billions flowing into the gentle breeze with the Last Dance.

I was nervous excited out of time leaving in three days in this song two hearts beating together...poof! I was gone.

I returned that January 1982 from Great Lakes Weapons Naval Command and I was staring into a Frozen Stream from a Westerly Northern Snow Event from Lake Erie that silenced the entire city. I was caught stealing the beautiful Argentine Green Eyed mystery.

I love this song! I'll take 4 comments of heart-felt Honesty than a million cawing rasping grating 2019 radio trash of luv love love ya...luv ya babe.

I hate you tube ...but finding this song has made the reunion sweet...Eyes of a Face of a Child. Rest in Peace Dan...Peace.
