i had the loudness, but the hi notes proved too damn difficult, vocally- the best singer only needs to be about 31% as good as dan was, vocally ! haha! one wonders where he got all those great songs, and melodies, and his unique way of using chords...to me they're just a mystery, mostly...i mean i can recognise a few different types of chords, but i'll never understand where it all comes from, not from down here, anyways, i think!

If anyone is a fan or authority on the current musical landscape, is there anyone, solo performer, that rises to the caliber of lyrics, arrangements, emotive qualities and musicianship that DF's music demonstrated?

I'd say another musician/song writer/poet is Jackson Browne. A brilliant writer from the early 70's. Try the LP These Days to start if you haven't before... His new stuff is brilliant too.

Although I should say that Ray Lamontagne doesn't approach Dan Fogelberg in terms of complexity or breadth in production itself. I don't think Ray Lamontagne is even interested in that sort of thing. He's more of a pure folk artist, the singer-songwriter. Not an engineer or a multi-instrumentalist either.
His lyrics and music are every bit as intimate and poignant and haunting as Dan Fogelberg's, and he's a much better singer. Unfortunately for Dan Fogelberg, his voice was very reedy and lacked power. His voice box was never his greatest gift.

Very pretty song both in the arrangement and the lyric. 'Riddles of romance that distance may yet explain' makes me smile some thirty-five years after the fact. Many of the riddles were never explained but those things were never meant to be. Greeaat segue with Give Me Some Time.
