Flyleaf - In The Dark Lyrics

I’ve written songs
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark, in the dark
I’ve felt inspired
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark, in the dark
I hide myself
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark, in the dark
Used to be afraid
Of the dark, of the dark, of the dark, of the dark
Those in the light know we die
In the dark, in the dark, in the dark, in the dark

There’s only artificial light here
My flaws hide well here
I used to be afraid of cluttered noises
Now I’m afraid of silence
Fill this space
Idle words

I’m scared to death of light and silence
Jesus kill me inside this
Raise me up to live again
Like you did, like you did

Now I am mute despite myself
All of them are gone
The silence overtakes me
The idle words forsake me
And I am left to face me

I’m held accountable
For every idle word
Curse the idle words

I’m scared to death of light and silence
Jesus kill me inside this
Raise me up to live again
Like you did, like you did

Glory shows up
Exposes us
I’m naked here
Forsaken here
By the dark
By the dark
Damn the dark

I’m scared to death of light and silence
Jesus kill me inside this
Raise me up to live again
Like you did, like you did

  15. A.... E....

I love this song! It's not the same without Lacey. :(

  16. G.... M....

I love this song, it reminds me that I used to be afraid of the dark, evil people and spirits but now I am not. I truly believe in god, have a personal relationship and I am only afraid of making the wrong choices. My opinion is religion and the Bible have been changed over time by man and I pray that God guides me to do, believe and see what is true and I don't just follow and listen to what everyone tells me is true. I love Flyleaf and can relate to their music.

    G.... M....

    Amen brother!

    G.... M....

+G Montoya your right except the bible has changed. cultures change for sure. just look at the mess we are in now. MOSTLY because the CHURCH has failed to teach scripture!. do i like everything i read?. no. of course not. i'm a fallen human. we have to take all of scripture IN CONTEXT. hey, everybody wants to go to heaven but no one wants to die, right?. having a relationship with Jesus(God in the Flesh) is fantastic for sure. hope you find a good bible believing church. if there is a Calvery Chapel nearby, check it out. they are solid!. God bless.

    G.... M....

+Ron Dunbar Thanks for the response, you make very good points.

  22. a.... b....

I'm doing a project where I have to find music that would go with the holocaust. Can y'all give some song that would fit the subject please?

    a.... b....

I don't know if you are still doing the project but fading by decyfer down could be a possibility. You could take it and make it one of the point of views of a solider in the camp that is just following orders but doesn't want to do what he is instructed to do. Look up the lyrics. Hopefully you'll see what I mean

    a.... b....

    Thank you so much.

    a.... b....

    we did that!

  23. A.... J....

I LOVE this song !! What a BEAUTIFUL and POWERFUL prayer of Rebirth.
"I’m scared to death of light and silence
    Jesus kill me inside this
Raise me up to live again
Like you did, like you did"
AND THEN The Glory of God shows up as asked...
    "Glory shows up
    Exposes us
    I’m naked here
    Forsaken here
By the dark, By the dark
    Damn the dark
    LIGHT
I’m scared to death of light and silence
    Jesus kill me inside this
Raise me up to live again
Like you did, like you did"
    AMEN !!!

This Song... Just the first 70 seconds of it...

  26. A.... T....

I really really love this song its a little soft in my opinion but thats just me! anyways this is the only song i ever listen to by flyleaf lol!

  27. L.... s....

Oh, I can relate to this lyrics. I know what she means.

    "Glory shows up
    Exposes us
    I’m naked here
    Forsaken here
    By the dark"

    L.... s....

@Brandon Roberts I think that many can :)

  28. A.... M....

Its odd I find this song to be about depression. It is very motivational to me.

    A.... M....

@Brandon Roberts The day Lacey Sturm planned to kill herself was the day her old life ended. As an atheist who hated Christians, she thought church was a place for hypocrites, fakers, and simpletons. After a screaming match with her grandmother, she ended up in the back of a sanctuary, hating everyone in the room. But what happened in that room is that a pastor heared god telling him that there was a suicidal soul in the room and that reason she is alive today.

  29. G.... S....

This song tho gives me chills ^.^

  30. N.... L....

I fucking love flyleaf , i find their songs morbid since i am an atheist .

    N.... L....

Yugoslavian Alien same but I'm lokean so some songs relate quite well like fire fire

    N.... L....

Yeah her songs have a nice double meaning. As a Christian i kinda see the religious undertones in some of her songs more than the other ones, and in other songs i see the storytelling side more. It's interesting that some people know how to do that i guess.

    N.... L....

    Yugoslavian Alien atheist unite

    N.... L....

Yugoslavian Alien y tho jesus loves u but ur still pushing him away??

  31. N.... U....

I know Flyleaf is a Christian Band and all, but, it really would be nice to refrain from speaking of such things in the comments. It sparks a lot of fights now a-days. Let's just enjoy the music and share our love for Flyleaf!

    N.... U....

if someone was to say that about talking about gays.. there'd be an uproar. Don't talk about Christian topics because it offends? Are you hearing yourself? What's with this new gay movement of being proud and not caring to offend. so it's okay for them, but not us? this is sad

    N.... U....

Jessica Marberry It's what they want. We will not be silenced.

    N.... U....

you're right. As a Christian, I won't let myself be silenced, just as I wouldn't expect anyone else to be silenced.

    N.... U....

Naruko Uzumaki with all due respect, that's like saying I love ketchup but hate the way it tastes. If you like an artist but disagree with the reason for the art, its a little silly to request people not talk about the subject matter.

    N.... U....

Let it offend, like Jesus did

  32. k.... f....

    I wuv this song

  33. k.... c....

It would be nice to listen to Flyleaf without biblical debates. Usually those debating/arguing have no idea what they are talking about, which makes it even worse ! That goes for both sides of the argument !! Yes Flyleaf is a Christian Band does that mean we have to debate God .Even Black Sabbath has songs which Praise God,bet few people know that !! Anyway can we just enjoy the music !

    k.... c....

    lol specter

    k.... c....

exactly! most songs can have two meanings anyway

    k.... c....

kevin cunningham no their not debating. There just problems faced and questions asked. Their not stupid. Listen to some interviews with them. Learn about them before u make ur assumptions.

    k.... c....

kevin cunningham, I agree to an extent Jesus did not always preach in church. His followers were not perfect people. When there is more than one person talking/debating god/jesus that is a congregation. Split a piece of wood and he is there.

    k.... c....

kevin cunningham That being said music is music and singers are not always song writers so that's why there can be many interpretations.

  34. P.... ....

In a nutshell, the bible tells many stories that show God's intense love for humanity, regardless of what wrong doings they did, and how He defended his people against their enemies. Then it shows how He sent Jesus because He loves us so much (John 3:16) that He doesn't want us to go to...you know. And because Jesus died, if we believe and accept that truth in our lives and follow His plan for us, we'll know where we go when we die. We'll be with him in a really nice, comfy place :)

  35. P.... ....

Well the Bible is God's word. It gives the history of Him and reveals His thoughts and plans for us, why he sent Jesus. I'm not sure why you find Him distasteful? Please explain and then maybe I can help. Have you read the Bible all the way? You should start reading the New Testament. It's all about grace, instead of the law (thou shalt nots, old customs). Keep in mind tho, that the bible has been translated with errors over time. Thats why many people have issues with it.

  36. A.... Y....

Why does the first bit of the song sound so weird? I remember it different

  37. C.... S....

will everyone just stop arguing? youtube was made to share music with everyone, it wasn't made for people to have petty little arguments over bullshit things... enjoy the music or get the fuck outta here

  38. R.... P....

    thank you so much

  39. P.... F....

believe that Jesus died for you because he loves you and doesn't want you to go there. Live the way he wants you to. Say I'm sorry for all the wrong you've done, He will easily forgive you and just trust him with your life :) Won't be easy but itll be worth it and he really cares about you. He won't leave you alone when trouble comes, but he will help you always :)

  40. P.... F....

I'm not sure about all that, but if you believe that Jesus died for us and rose again, live the way He wants you to then you have eternal salvation. But I will say that some or most of the things in the Book of Mormon is not of God. Its not about religion but relationship with him. The book of mormon does not match up to what the Bible says, from what i understand...

    P.... F....

PrettyTia F who said the book or mormon is holy?

  41. A.... G....

Who turned this into a debate? Seriously this is just stupid. This is MUSIC, and good music at that. Music is harmony. Made to bring people together, not tear them apart. Not an argument waiting to happen. How will the world ever live in harmony if we can't get past our stupid ideals???? Everybody has an opinion and getting pissed at them about it and trying to shove yours down their throat will only make them hate yours more. To each his own, so back the fuck off and listen to the music!!!

  42. K.... .....

This is all very interesting but what does it have to do with the song??

  43. A.... ....

Who thinks you're going to hell and why?

  44. b.... B....

As a member of the Chuch of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, I have done everything you just outlined. Yet, many people who identify as Christians still believe that I am going to hell. I believe in the God of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob. I believe in His Son Jesus Christ, and that He sacrificed His life for everybody so that they could have the chance of living with our Heavenly Father after this life. I'm trying my best to live my life as Jesus lived His on Earth.

    b.... B....

I know this is 5 years ago but let me say this, its not about them. Its about the holy trinity and you. Its your deeds and your relationship with God and His Son that determines where you spend your eternity. Ignore others but dont harden your heart. If someone says you are going to hell, talk to God in your spirit about it. Dont let anxiety push you away from our saviour. God doesnt destroy a city without a warning, he will warn you if you are going down a path of destruction. Read your bible, its your guide. Dont worry about the words of others, no one can determine who is going to heaven or hell except God himself.

  45. A.... ....

Then don't. It's so easy to not go to hell, and yet the majority never looks into it. All you have to go is, talking directly to God, accept responsibility (as opposed to denying) of your sins and repent of them. (apologize for them, feel regret/remorse over them as opposed to pride, because your sins combined with everyone else's put Jesus on the cross) Then ask for His forgiveness, and He will put into action the entire reason Jesus died-- to save you. Then ask for Him to enter your heart.

  46. p.... ....

Couldn't of said it better myself :)

  47. D.... A....

    I don't wanna go to hell =\

  48. A.... ....

Well I disagree. I think it's very important and largely fantastic that humans are trying to figure out those things and help each other know those things, even if it's through forceful arguing. The more we do this, the more we learn about each other and the more open-minded we become. Maybe someday we will reach conclusions. I have before, and the people I talk to have before. It's good to work out our problems. And even if it were a negative thing, it's nowhere near trivial. It's huge.

  49. A.... ....

  50. A.... ....

That sure is a huge claim! "Let's not forget" is a bit of a silly thing to say though, when there is nothing to be forgotten. You're talking to Christians, who believe that the "very first thought of one God" was pretty much the first thought by the first man ever. They also believe that the Mesopotamian people left the one true God to indulge in idol worship-- not just plucked that out of nowhere and that was the first religious belief. And no not both religions are called mythology. Seriously?

  51. A.... ....

The meaning of our lives and where we came from and the speculation about where we go when we die are trivial?

  52. s.... ....

People arguing below me over religion, let's not forget that before there was ever the thought of one God, there were many gods. The Mesopotamian people had the first civilization and the first "Bible" so to speak. They believed in more than one god. Their civilization was way before Roman thoughts, and they also had more than one god. Now both religions are called mythology. Have you ever thought someday in the future the Bible will be considered mythology due to another religion? Yeah, so sh.

  53. A.... ....

The Bible is God's Word-- not fully comprising of words spoken by God, though. People can quote Job 12:2, but it wouldn't mean much because a sinful man said it in lies. The Bible is meant to be taken in context, including slavery laws. The Bible "alludes to morally apprehensible" things because they exist and will not cease to. Slavery is a result of sin, but so is painful childbirth and weeds. That doesn't mean God won't tell us how we should handle those things in the best way possible.

  54. Q.... ....

    In the dark.
    In the dark.
    In the dark.
    In the dark

  55. N.... B....

    watch?v=1IAhDGYlpqY

  56. A.... C....

Acceptance of slavery is in the old testament, it's all very confusing the way the Bible must be interpreted- and yes, it must be interpreted. As a general rule, agree with what the new testament says rather than the old testament as the old testament is very much era specific. I myself don't know a lot about it and I don't pretend to, but that is the extent of my knowlege

  57. A.... ....

Using Christian beliefs though, no man has ownership of another. All people belong to God, and God has His way. All "salve owners" are under the power of God regarding themselves and how they treat slaves. All slaves and under the power (and protection) of God regarding themselves and how they treat their masters. I personally do not approve of slavery, and the ideal world in God's eyes would not have it. There would be none desperate enough to become slaves if there weren't sin.

  58. A.... ....

Totally moral? I doubt it. Especially Egyptian, in which slavery was a means of discouraging success and diminishing hope or independence. USA was only one example of slavery done wrong. But many things are done wrong. Sex has been done wrong so much that people think sex in itself is a sin, but it's not. Slavery is an even more extreme example, because it's nearly always done wrong. When humans are given power like that, they are prone to exploit it. Power corrupts, right?

  59. A.... ....

We are enjoying the music. But we are also having a discussion. It isn't hurting people to look into the comment section and see comments, and if it is then they shouldn't look into the comment section.

  60. A.... ....

I have, I have. I know it sounds crazy, especially now when the USA has displayed a disgusting and sinful act regarding slavery, but to think back to then requires more extension of thought. Back then people didn't force others into slavery because of their skin color, and slavery wasn't as negatively thought of because it wasn't as unfair. Some people needed to be owned by other people just to survive, and to take in somebody so desperate was at times a kindness. It's not to reinforce a belief.

  61. A.... ....

  62. A.... ....

I didn't have to omit it. I just didn't add it because I didn't think it was necessary after the repeated stating of it.
The Bible was written with laws to slaves and personal accounts of slaves. Of love to slaves and promises of success to slaves. It is not only written of the free Jew. At many other times, Jews were the slaves (under force as well) of other countries. It wasn't "written by the victors"

  63. A.... ....

The thing is, I feel as though I am benefiting nothing from your replies but maybe reflection. Instead of showing me how or why, you just tell me what is wrong in a very matter-of-fact way, which doesn't budge my position or even consideration. Similarly, I feel my replies add no weight to your scale. Even if they did, you seem to remove them and replace it with another. This conversation feels counter-productive and I'm really kinda busy.

  64. A.... ....

A lot of words used there are wrong. Nobody enjoys being punished, but does that make it a bad thing? Nobody likes pain, or getting shots, etc. Therefore "enjoyed" is an incorrectly placed word. "Forced" is another wrong one. Slaves knew what they were getting themselves into. Owners were still subject to laws like "Love thy neighbor as thyself", and neighbors included slaves. "Beating and destruction" weren't blessings to them, but living as free people would be worse for them personally.

  65. A.... ....

Valuing human life, according to Christian beliefs, began with God before He ever created humans. Then it was reassured when He created them. Also, why do you keep bringing up random statements I obviously don't believe? I'm not automatically believing you just because you said them. Do you desire to hear my opinion?

  66. A.... ....

Not at all. Let's look at the bigger picture, since you seem confused. Mankind was given the choice between God's ways, which would benefit both, or man's ways, which though sometimes moral, would never bring man success. Mankind, against what God wanted for them, chose their own destruction. But God showed mercy on them regardless, and chose a people to be His own. Eventually God would show mercy to all mankind, but back then it was the Israelites. To be a slave to them was also mercy.

  67. A.... ....

Yes, yes they are. I'm not sure I even see your point in this conversation anymore.

  68. A.... ....

It is both Christian and human. (though many people do not value life) Simply because it is one doesn't mean it isn't the other. Value of human life is stressed in Christianity. One who does not value human life is sinning. Those who are Christians are expected to actively value human life or they're not staying true to the beliefs of Christians. Deserving death fades away in comparison to how stressed value of life is. Just because we deserve death doesn't mean we should deliver it.

  69. A.... ....

Those of foreign lands were being punished. Those of foreign lands were given much grace and a better future than their free people. I will not resort to sophistry. You seem to make a lot of false assumptions on my intentions, which is understandable but really tiring. I have to constantly explain myself.

  70. A.... ....

But there are. Google "the flood in other cultures" and you'll see that many ancient histories include a version of the great flood. But as they say, history becomes story, story becomes legend, and legend becomes myth. If things didn't become myth, don't you think we'd know a lot more about our past? The Bible is constantly being proved right historically, scientifically and morally-- oftentimes it is believed false and then in the future proved true when intelligence has caught up.

  71. A.... ....

Oops that's not what I meant. Not abolish, but to make it unnecessary for us to go to heaven. The law still exists but is now not required. One day the law will be followed again, but that's when we can. Right now, we all fall short and therefore need other means of salvation. Galatians 3:23-25 and Romans 7:6. Slavery is a sin, and the laws regarding it were based on slavery of the age, not modern slavery. People would sell their services to live, and to hire them wasn't evil.

  72. A.... ....

It's dangerous by itself, yeah. If you uphold no other Christian principles but that one (which is stupid), then yeah, it's dangerous. But usually people have the whole package, which includes the extreme value of life and important of salvation during which. The whole package includes laws saying "Do not murder" and words of Jesus valuing life. In Christianity, to deserve death has no weight on whether or not you die by the hand on man.

  73. M.... T....

    yeah? well F**k you >,>

  74. A.... ....

As for inaccurate geology, impossible mythology and suspension of critical thought, I believe all those are nonexistent. Thats like asking you what you think of red when it's green. I wouldn't know, because these items are nonexistent. I think, however, many people believe they exist and should be taught the reality of the matter. I'm sorry you've been a victim of mass opinion, but it's hard to offer what I think of things that dont exist. However, I think what the Bible thinks, so looks there.

  75. A.... ....

Sin is intangible? Because I've always known sin as any action that goes against God's word. Actions are tangible. The limits of sin are clearly set.
I think exactly what the Bible thinks. That old testament laws were created as a way for man to try and work His way to God, and that Jesus came to abolish the need for those. No longer did man have to work to God, but he was offered salvation from his failures and forgiveness. I believe that before Jesus, death was only a matter of time.

  76. A.... ....

It's not dangerous. We deserve death, but we have a right to life. Life is a gift given to us and it's a sin to take it from another. It's certainly safer than thinking some of us deserve eternal life and only other, lesser people deserve death. Also you're not listening to a thing I'm saying. I JUST said that "we will never be perfect", and now you're implying I didn't. I have read the Bible nearly completely in Chronological order critically, but I know that God isn't controlled by society.

  77. A.... ....

That's the exact point dear. To accept ourselves as imperfect. To recognize we all deserve death isn't to hate ourselves, it's to come to terms with the reality we will never be perfect and to stop striving for it. Instead, we strive to do the best we can and achieve more than we ever could alone through God. It's humility and confidence, not self-hatred and pride. I think it's really sad you get the two mixed up. The "beauty" is that we accept we are imperfect and then accept salvation despite.

  78. T.... D....

    Gee, harsh much??

  79. m.... ....

shut up and enjoy the music people

  80. N.... H....

God, you Christians are such judgmental bitches sometimes.

  81. B.... R....

i've masturbated in the dark in the dark in the dark

  82. H.... ....

Then you don't know true Christians, plus, everyone is judgemental by human nature. Christians are not disrespectful, even when disrespected, we are by no means condescending nor close-minded. We are open-minded actually, you believe we are close-minded because we refuse to defy our God to conform with society. Which is something we will never do. True Christians, are no where near what you have stated them to be. Actually, they are the exact opposite. What you have said is basic human nature.

  83. R.... K....

Probably a Non-Believer We Christians don't deserve death well not some crazy way at least a good after-life in Heaven

  84. C.... F....

Well, dude, everyone dies. So in a sense, you deserve death too. Since it happens to all of us.

Don't insult people because of their religion. I'm not religious, but I still wouldn't say anything like that and I respect what others believe in.

I'm not really religious (when you're in a private school with Christianity shoved down your throat everyday against your will, you kind of don't like religion) but the brilliant thing about music is you don't have to be religious to like this style of music! :D You can interpret it to your liking. :3

True, but then again that's not all Christians. Also everyone has been judgemental or disrespectful to another human being in some way or another; that's who we are as humans. Yet this reason is incorrect, for the true reason all Christians deserve death is because there is is a great reward in heaven.
