Flobots - Defend Atlantis Lyrics

That was as far as the tide came in
I remember the starfish and the wails of the sirens then
We replaced the tridents, embraced Poseidon
And discovered ourselves living on an island

We flow like water across the lost city
Chalk prophecies and washed off graffiti
In continents
Trade off for payoff
And high concepts then lost to chaos
Many tales radiate from one nexus
Defending a dream of a new directive
A call from the deep sums up a notion
The day when the people bum rushed the ocean

From the beaches they ran to meet the day after
Underneath the waves won't repeat the same chapter
Knew what they had to do

That which creates life has power to take it right back
Fucking with the icecaps
We've gotta push the tide back
We can survive collapse if we don't get sidetracked
If we visualize living underwater hidden by prisms
Countries fall but people transition if one for all we live in that vision
Hundred dollar bill origami
Balloon inflation new world economy
We float on tsunami to global warming
We need structures to control what's coming
Corporate monopolies obsolete
The philosophy leaves us lost at sea
But from Marwar to Cochabamba
We are the warriors that won't get conquered
'Cause rising tides drown all villages
Divided fighters succumb to pillage
Rescuers whatever your latitude
It's time to pioneer a new world attitude
Put local cycles first we're Global Islanders with nothing left to plunder

From the beaches they ran to meet the day after
Underneath the waves won't repeat the same chapter
Knew what they had to do

(Alert the law alternate nations train in the streets
Act to limit all non-transparent industries so
We must defend Atlantis
Anchor the land and never transform into seas
Assets to liquify all netted toxic indices so
We must defend Atlantis)

For centuries human beings have pursued the meaning of Atlantis
Central to their teaching is that it's existence answers man's essential questions
Much like the feeding of the 5,000
Even if the facts aren't accurate the story's magic is alive

Of utmost importance to convert the impertinent
Atlantis holds the answer to man's ills at their most pertinent
Aspersions easily dispersed when I certainly answer
The most diverse aversions when I firstly channel _

Is this all that you hold
For a warriors role
The ground shakes
You claim my country not my soul
I fought I toiled, for the lost in the waves I will not tire
I die no slave
If the seas my grave
I sleep with my city
My people my oath
My shame my city is that
I cannot save my city
From waves that claim you
And curse the gods who can't explain
Who to blame
At the end of the reign
Heed me
The season passes Atlas
His keeps in the sediment
Failing monumentally
And leaving no monuments to see
Only sea to shining sea

(Assess the loss as new tidal inundations surface
Amidst the legions are now thousands in starfish
We must defend Atlantis
As the land acquiesces no tears in sympathy
Address the legacy and never treat it separately
Access telepathy last as neverending transcendency)

And survival hinged on an attempt by the humble
And the sirens wailed as the empire crumbled

With nothing left to plunder corporations drowned
Waves clapped like thunder and stormed the gates with sound
Forming a new nation now

As the icecaps melted water levels rose
We raised our hands together and made the levees hold
Heals in the sand we revealed the depths below

The population of starfish exploded from the ocean
Survival we unified to focus on
And the voices were many but we spoke as one

As the tale was retold we multiplied
And swelled across the faultlines to halt the tide
We let the altars die to keep our pulse alive

And from the barren wastelands of naked trash
We stitched together a shelter from fallen nation's flags
And chose to build a future from an ancient past

The crowns of thorns was worn we put the tritons down
We found new forms of anchors deep inside the ground

The world is an island now

We need a new flobots alblum now more than ever!

    A.... ....

We need them to become more popular.. they need real concerts.. but unfortunately they are a nonprofit band... which is all good but they need to get out there more. Its been many years but not nearly enough people know about em aside from "handlebars"

    Atlantis

  12. J.... ....

I want to know the backing vocals that you can hear in the right ear at 1:18 until the end of the verse and in the second chorus. Listen VERY closely.

  13. w.... d....

god the lyrics and the music are incredible. just. everything about this is amazing

  14. G.... I....

the lyrics are appearing too late

  15. P.... M....

yo, anybody got the bass tab?

  16. N.... D....

Perhaps one of the most epic songs ever!

  17. J.... H....

    I ❤ this song

  18. S.... ....

whats with all the starfish :|

    S.... ....

starfish are bottom feeders (they feast on dead animals and carcasses, and live in warm water) so the population boom is from the water heating up and the dead humans.

    S.... ....

    +wolvern76 oh damn

  19. j.... ....

Just a flat out fantastic song... not a huge Flobots fan, but this is a beautifully done song.

  20. T.... D....

I need violin tabs for this.

  21. P.... M....

does anyone know what key this song is in?

The Flobots are the more serious and political version of 21 Pilots

    l.... t....

I make fun of 21 Pilots for being excessively whiny for no fucking reason whatsoever and shouldn't be compared to the Flobots. Twenty One Pilots is just absolute trash tier rap. It's not good, whatsoever. They can play fantastic uke songs and Tyler has a great voice for singing, but he's fucking garbage at rapping. That, and Tyler's lyrics are fucking garbage too.

The only comparison you can make to either group is their incessant need to build lyrics off of the name of the song. This has lead to really bad lyrics like the ones found in Superhero by Flobots where the narrative seems to confuse the idea of if it's preaching against racism or if it's preaching against pregnancy, and specifically goes out of its way to bring up two totally different situations saying "but pregnancy". Rose and the Thistle also shares this problem. On Twenty One Pilots' end, Car Radio and Stressed Out are the truest examples of this problem, with Car Radio attempting to point the narrative of "I'm depressed and need a distraction from my depression" and Stressed Out trying to say "Things were better when we had no obligations". While some lyrics kind of hit home, both songs babbled about stupid shit that had nothing to do with the song, and Stressed Out had that stupid fucking clap that's now in a few videos for the song whether it is the music video or not (seriously, fuck that clap). Then again, in this, I've thrown out two minor songs from Flobots and the two biggest songs by Twenty One Pilots and said that they all suffered from the same problem.

At least they aren't The Front Bottoms, though. I could have a field day explaining all the ways that The Front Bottoms are fucking awful.

    l.... t....

its not a narrative. they are just speaking their truth.

    l.... t....

You are entitled to have your wrong opinion. They are two different bands trying to convery diffrent themes. I just wish Flobots blew up like twenty one pilots did.

    l.... t....

i feel like they both are great bands.
21 pilots is more known for their lyrics, especially in self-titled. They make songs that give people hope.
Flobots has great songs and lyrics, and i feel like they are more about political stuff or doing something about the world.
They're both fantastic, but either way yall need to listen to self titled. everyone knows blurry face isnt as great as self-titled.

    l.... t....

I have respect for both for being their own different things. I don't even think a comparison is that relevant. Yes, Flobots are more serious and political. I like their messages of societies and power. 21 Pilots are completely different. Their songs are very personal and emotional, and I respect them for that too. Car Radio is a song that was able to resonate with me when I felt like nothing could. These two music producers are very different in their approaches, topics, and outcomes, so I'm not entirely sure why we need to compare them or bash one in comparison to the other.

  24. R.... D....

am i the omly one that thinks handlebars is the best song

    R.... D....

    +Ron Dougard yes

    R.... D....

I would suggest listening to the full albums of fight with tools and survival story. there are some great songs in them. my favorites of each are "Stand Up" for fwt and either this song or "Superhero" for SS

    R.... D....

No I did till I heard defend Atlantis I like it bitch

  25. O.... M....

I think this is my favorite song by them.

    O.... M....

+Olivia Maschinot Maybe my all time favorite song!

  26. p.... ....

Cant decide if this song is the best against global warming or the song go into the water by dethklock.

  27. E.... C....

I think this song is talking about global warming. It makes sense. It even shows in the chorus.

"Knew, what they had to, do." They saw the heat coming.

    E.... C....

Actually it is but they also speak of uniting under the same cause. That's the main idea of this song. eventually we will have to unite to survive but it's best if we do that before it's a must

    E.... C....

+Elite CrystalFl4me I agree. I think it is about giving up our national identity for a global one in order to survive, and surviving through looking after our earth.

    E.... C....

“Fucking with the ice caps we gotta push the tide back”

    E.... C....

The voices were many but we spoke as one

    E.... C....

Along with we let the alters die to keep the our pulse alive this dong is about the world coming together humans are a tribal people we find others like us and then band together and war against others different this song is hoping when a bigger problem comes we can all band together as one

  28. E.... C....

♪“From the beaches they, ran to meet the day after. Underneath the waves, won't repeat the same chapter. Knew, what they had to, do.”♪

    God, I love this song.

    E.... C....

yeah, the chorus is the most beautiful part, shame it's only twice in the song :/

  29. D.... _....

This song might go well with some call of duty games preferbally modern warfare and black ops games.

    D.... _....

Alot of Flobots songs do ;D

    D.... _....

I doubt they would allow their songs to be used in a war game, since they are very anti war. Unless it was a game that showed the horrors of war.

  30. D.... _....

In the top four song that I like!.

  31. T.... P....

me encanta escuchar todas tu canciones flobots soy de venezuela

  33. F.... ....

The posted lyrics wash too slowly... they are halfway done with some of them by the time the lyrics refresh....

    F.... ....

I agree. I'm saying this because I can't one it.

    F.... ....

But you can just look at it up there. The lyrics are listed below the video.

    F.... ....

    cough cough description cough cough

  34. s.... w....

AMAZING!!!! My favorite song by them!

  35. J.... B....

I've avoided sharing this video for two reasons. First, I thought the artists where a little self-righteous, but aren't we all. Second, I thought a few of my friend wouldn't appreciate it. Sorry if you fit into that category. I love it, and feel if you are my friends, you might appreciate if only as a means to know me better. Cheers

    J.... B....

Are you dumb =...= how in any way are they ever self-righteous?

    J.... B....

@Aiden Wilcock you're asking a question, yet callng HIM dumb?

    J.... B....

    @Aiden Stanton
I love this band, but they are some what self righteous at times (not all of them).

    J.... B....

It's not self-righteous, it's simply righteous. If you believe in the potential/energy of your convictions then you would do anything to try and communicate them to others. That includes, at least for me, righteous-ass beats.

    J.... B....

I don't really see the self-righteous attitude much seeing as they talk about following anyone who wishes to make a change for the better. they encourage this. listen to stand up and you should understand them a little better.

  36. A.... T....

    Agreed. Amazing

  37. B.... T....

    Amazing.

  38. S.... B....

no he probobly does but topac is dead so he dosnt count and personly in my opinion hes not as good

s you dont know who 2Pac is?

  40. r.... m....

    hell yeah

  41. S.... M....

Well it is the first song most people heard and one of their best.

  42. M.... i....

Definatley, but not as good as the others.

  43. M.... i....

Oh yeah. I honestly hate that song. When I think Flobots, I think Stand Up. Yup. You read that right. Unless if you didn't.

  44. j.... a....

exactly that's what i meant by literal and i know jamie laurie aka johnny 5 was a para-educator.

  45. L.... ....

Brer Rabbit actually used to be an elementary teacher

  46. j.... a....

they actually mean all of humanity in general. this is a warning about global climate change and the incoming global economic collapse. the system not sustainable and it's nearing collapse maybe 5 years to a decade from now.

    j.... a....

john agurubatto 3 years and no collapse, so when would the signs show?

    j.... a....

    Yea I’m curious too...

  47. j.... a....

they're not just rappers these guys live and stay true to their message, they're literal teachers, life-changers and heroes within their own right.

  48. Z.... P....

This is the most epic song I have ever heard.

  49. V.... ....

For that album, I actually like Mayday, Fighting With Tools, and Never Had it.... a lot more than Handlebars.

But man I've been on a Flobots listening spree.

  50. E.... ....

    prefer this song tbh

  51. x.... ....

    AGREED!!!!!!!!!!

  52. C.... A....

Although you have to admit, Handlebars is an amazing song.

  53. t.... ....

    always loved that album artwork.

  54. M.... ....

Agreed in general, but it's ok that they think of handlebars - not a bad message there. Everything has a beginning. The sad part is that they don't follow through with that interest and find more that they have to offer.

  55. J.... ....

You can't deny that Handlebars is a great song.

  56. D.... ....

By defend at do they mean something similar to defend freedom or something along those lines?

  57. A.... J....

The song that I first listened to by Flobots <3

  58. Y.... ....

Except that the only thing people hear in that song is "I can ride my bike with no handlebars," and they automatically think of "YOLO" and "swag," etc. They don't pay attention to the rest of the song and the real meaning it is giving.

  59. R.... S....

Why is that sad? It's a good message.

  60. S.... V....

I can ride my bike, with no handlebars.

  61. A.... ....

just recognized this song as our amazing song of the day, check out the Facebook page! facebook[dot]com/AmazingSongsDaily

  62. N.... ....

what's wrong with handlebars? This is the song that made me love them

  63. D.... R....

I cant evode that, was the frist song i hear by flobots... but this is still amazing, freaking amazing

  64. S.... G....

    Well said,

  65. M.... M....

Not to mention that song is so much more than people realize. Not just a song about some kid riding a bike by no means.

  66. T.... ....

to be fair, they have 4 songs on thir official page, i wanted to hear more, but this is relying on the fans to push your shit, whoever markets them needs to be fired

  67. R.... b....

this album is prefect to play Woi

  68. T.... K....

I personally think that Flobots was an underground band before Handlebars came out. Handlebars is what made Flobots known amongst deprived people. Handlebars is a good song nether the less.

  69. M.... ....

    So was I...

  70. M.... ....

    Wait... what? Why...?

Do artists need to scream, "WE ARE BEING SYMBOLIC" in the middle of every song now, so that people will understand?

  71. a.... ....

    1 Rise
    2 Handle Bars
    3 Mayday

  72. P.... ....

I was just doubled over the desk with laughter in the middle of the library. A Romney ad played before this video.

  73. i.... ....

This is the only song in my entire life that's ever given me chills.

  74. A.... d....

    Antlantis = Modern Industrial Civilization

  75. T.... ....

A musician is only as good as his most popular song, or so the saying goes. And why is it a bad thing for being recognized for that song?

  76. n.... ....

    Great song

  77. K.... J....

this is by far Flobots best song in my opinion

  78. T.... ....

yea lol and there first song that got a video

  79. S.... H....

i think that only because handlebars was the first song of them i heard them sing

  80. I.... I....

Totally. I've never heard anyone better. Flobots don't get the recognition they deserve.

  81. P.... ....

These people are true poets and the smartest rappers I have ever seen.

  82. I.... I....

    Aquaman's theme song. >=D

  83. D.... ....

The chorus in this song is just mesmerizing, I've found myself humming it throughout the day for the past couple of months... flobots should be so much bigger than they are.

  84. M.... B....

I heard about them through Handlebars, and i love that songs, its one of my favorites, i think its more sad how people dont listen to the meaning behind songs, thats more why they dont get the credit they deserve, theyre making legitimate points that have nothing to do with shooting people and getting girls pregnant then leaving them etc.

  85. M.... S....

    chills

  86. S.... P....

Well, that IS their best song... I'd like them a lot better if they didn't have a freaking axe to grind in every song...

  87. B.... ....

Handlebars is still a good song though, but I see what you mean.

  88. M.... M....

I would have to say this is their best song, but i have many close seconds.

  89. R.... C....

Yeah thats true, personally I think it's their best song, and this is a close second. I dont really go by ratings, I'm dont care if its "Mainstream" or not.

  90. M.... M....

It's a really good song, and it's how i found all of their other amazing music, but most people think FloBots and their mind jumps straight to Handlebars, it is a good song, but in no way at all their best. They deserve credit for all of their amazing work, not just the song that gets radio time.

  91. R.... C....

What are you talking about? Handlebars is an amazing song and adds onto their epic set list of songs.

  92. z.... ....

What does that say? Go enroll in a G.E.D. class and take notes while they're on the english section; when you've done that, try to convey your opinion again.

  93. M.... B....

And Sytem of a Down, though that leans slightly towards dadaism. I'd take Heaven Shall Burn here though, but that concentrates more on war, than anything else.

  94. S.... H....

    go to school

  95. U.... ....

This song should be a theme song for a post-apocalyptic world movie.

(Yes I understand it means something different, but think :D)

  96. J.... S....

these lerics ,ake u think whats going to happen to america

  97. D.... R....

    This lyrics are so intense...

  98. M.... M....

Honestly, I listen to Linkin Park (favorite band) more than I listen to Flobots (they're not far behind), but I will always have a great respect for Flobots. They have some of the most powerful sounds, lyrics, and messages ever contributed to the Art World. I'm glad they are releasing "The Circle In The Square" because we need more Flobots out there again!

  99. A.... j....

i hate white people trying to ack like gangsters. When there really just nerds,Some white people are gangsters,But JJ as everwon calls him when his real Inesles are JK soooo he is a JOKE.
