Fleetwood Mac - Sands Of Time Lyrics

The magic of a blackened night
Can go so far, but not seem right

Although my love, will drive away the sunshine
The magic of, a blackened night
And before you go show me
All the words of love

And the falling sands of time
Blow my wind and drifted by
To and fro the trees still bend
Wondering what the host will send
We will go right down to the sea
Bathing in light we will be free to wander

And the falling sands of time
Blow my wind and drifted by
To and fro the trees still bend
Wondering what the host will send
We will go right down to the sea
Bathing in light we will be free to wander

And the falling sands of time
Blow my wind and drifted by
To and fro the trees still bend
Wondering what the host will send
We will go right down to the sea
Bathing in light we will be free to wander

The magic of a blackened night
Can go so far, but not seem right

Although my love, will drive away the sunshine
The magic of, a blackened night

I heard this for the first time today. I'm 61; how did they keep this incredible song away from me for so long?

  2. F.... C....

This sounds like quite a few modern indie bands. Only indie bands just imitate this classic stuff.

  12. J.... B....

I remember playing the Sands of Time back in the mid 70's as this was a song that I played over and over in complete awe!

  13. M.... W....

Sweet Danny. Thank you for adding so many beautiful words and melodies to the soundtrack of my life. You'll never know what your work meant to me.

  14. N.... S....

I used to think the dead were god’s favorite band but now that I’ve gotten deep into the history of this band I’m starting to rethink that. PG and DK are now easily two of my favorite guitarists of all time.

  15. k.... k....

RIP Danny. Your music comes to me when I need it the most. Everlasting peace to you.

  16. R.... B....

I am glad others get this song, and get Danny Kirwan. There are still a few of us left.

This album blows Rumors right out of the water.Bare Trees and Future Games are the two best albums of Fleetwood Mac

    p.... y....

Don't forget Kiln House w/ Station Man, Jewel Eyed Judy, Tell Me all the Things you do etc.

  22. D.... D....

TIGHT rhythm section! That's FM for you!

Danny Kirwan was an underrated genius, I hope the sands of time will give him the deserved recognition

  26. J.... M....

I love this song, and I love the whole album

  27. A.... A....

The song is as great and wide as a boundless ocean!!!!

    A.... A....

You are not a drop in the ocean Ashnoy...You are the ocean in one drop!

  28. h.... ....

My fav FM track. Wish I had paid more attention to the genius on guitar while he was alive. What a dumb ass I am.

  29. N.... B....

    So hauntingly beautiful. Timeless .

  30. M.... D....

It is a beautiful song. I could not find a live video version. Is there video of a live performance?

  31. L.... L....

Danny Kirwan's signature composition, in m opinion. I don't like how the song starts however, that slow & low fade in, I'd ignored this track for many years because of it. But once it gets going, there is no other. Even Christine McVie had mentioned this as one of the best Kirwan tunes.

  33. a.... o....

    mystical

  34. P.... D....

    The bar of two!

  35. B.... D....

I purchased this album (the green cover) on vinyl during my first euro trip, Ireland to be specific. A lot of Fleetwood fan's are mostly fond of Rumours (I'm assuming and generalizing) but Future Games is my all time favorite with Kiln House and Then Play On pulling in at #2 & #3.

    B.... D....

    How about bare trees?

    B.... D....

A lot of Mac fans are missing out if they think Rumours was their first album.

  36. G.... J....

.This has always been my favourite Fleetwood Mac song of all time right up to the present day of Nov.22,2018. There is something very magical and intangible about this song
. It gives me so much hope and musical inspiration. Thanks so much, Danny, and everyone else that was in the band at that time, including Mick Fleetwood, Christine and John McVie and Bob Welch.

  37. b.... ....

Bob welsh made Fleetwood Mac palatable for the American audiences.. they just never could get into pre-bob welsh Fleetwood Mac! Most American Fleetwood Mac fans think this band started 1977

    b.... ....

Had me hooked since Then Play On.

  38. R.... ....

There's nothing wrong with the Stevie Nicks, Top 40 stuff. . . . But this is MUCH, MUCH better.

    R.... ....

It's a shame that so many people bypass this era. The music/melodies/guitar very intricate and interesting. It still sounds fresh and unique today.

  39. C.... ....

This song was the embodiment of the early 70's

  40. S.... G....

Danny Kirwan is one of the artists whose work is now written in my soul. I couldn't get this album off my turntable when it was released. It was also when I was first meeting my Bride of 31 years, and it "felt" special. Danny's Fleetwood Mac was perfect for the times. Purple Dragon blotter, anyone?

  41. M.... ....

Just discovered this and Peter green,,great, great stuff

  42. B.... J....

Many was the time I rocked my baby boy to sleep with this song.

  43. M.... M....

One of the greatest songs ever created.

    M.... M....

I play this song everyday and every listen is as fresh and beautiful as the first time I heard it.

  44. C.... L....

Like Van Gogh,a true genius. He had mastered his craft. And this stands among the best to me.There will never be a another Danny Kirwan.

  45. a.... o....

    mystical

  46. J.... O....

A real masterpiece of a pop / rock song.

  47. T.... L....

Last month (June 2018) my copy of Future Games got jammed in my Jeeps CD player. It has been playing on repeat since. Now I understand why, as I have just learned of Danny's passing. Gonna drink to you at band practice, good sir.

  48. R.... ....

As much as Peter Green was the initial mainstay of Fleetwood Mac, Danny was right there beside him. Dig all his work...!

  49. F.... G....

RIP Danny Kirwan. He was really the heart and soul of this band in this period, and his songs and his voice and guitar playing are just phenomenal. So sadly underrated and underappreciated.

  50. M.... ....

Goodbye for now Danny. Your talent meant so much to us. May you now have the peace that you so desperately longed for in this life.

  51. R.... T....

So sad to learn of Danny Kirwan's passing. What a monumental talent! For me, his work is the heart and soul of the early Fleetwood Mac and left its mark on their music for many years after he left the band. Rest in peace, #Dannykirwan

It's so great to discover others that enjoy early Fleetwood mac music, before the Buckingham/Nicks era.

  53. C.... F....

RIP. My first Fleetwood Mac experience.

  54. J.... ....

At 6:30, why doesn't Danny turn this song into something completely different than what was played prior to it? Just kidding of course. But what it turned into was out of my mind.

    J.... ....

Thats when the acid REALLY starts kicking in. Haha!

  55. h.... ....

    Danny Kirwan wrote this song......RIP

  56. L.... A....

You can hear that Danny Kirwan learned a thing or two from Peter Green. RIP beautiful songster.

  57. S.... K....

One of my favorite songs from one of my favorite albums...ever! It's a shame life had to deal Danny a bad hand, but he left us some beautiful music to remember him by, and he will never be forgotten by those of us who appreciate some of the most sublime rock and blues ever recorded. RIP Danny Kirwan.....you've earned your rest.

  58. F.... P....

I had been coming to hear this track for 1 month, then the news about him came....

  59. M.... A....

    RIP brother Danny

  60. b.... t....

    So long Danny

  61. E.... M....

Judging from the recency of the comments here, I'm guessing no one here caught the news...Danny Kirwan died last night (6/8/18). Wait, I just found one person who did hear the sad report.

    Rest in peace, sweet singer.

    E.... M....

Oops...just sorted the comments into "Newest First". Oh well. Comforting to know he left this many admirers. Sigh...

  62. b.... ....

Just read that Danny has left us. Rest in peace, gentle soul. Your work will not be forgotten.

    b.... ....

buellosaurusrex .. How did Danny die.. ? He was wonderful.

    b.... ....

No details have been released yet. Assuming complications from a life of alcoholism...

    b.... ....

    Complications from pneumonia :(

  63. c.... n....

One of the most special musicians of our time has passed, being barely noticed by many....We love you Danny and as I was blasting this song on the car stereo singing along at the top of my lungs yesterday...I wondered if it was too late to meet him wherever he was sequesterd and tell him he was not forgotten...( my youthful aspiration)....And to hear he passed today was a bit too much....Intense and misunderstood(while in F.M) you and your music has enriched many lives around the world

    c.... n....

    Well im crying Ty ❤

  64. M.... K....

RIP Danny Kirwan. Lovely, lovely song.

  65. s.... ....

Will always love your great voice and lovely, melodic playing.  Rest in Peace dear Danny.

  71. N.... M....

Boring. That's right, I said it...I realize my opinions aren't popular but...they we are.

    N.... M....

    i like neither.....prefer water

    N.... M....

Nathan, I encourage you to listen to Danny's contributions to The Play On, Kiln House & Bare Trees. Each record shows different side of Danny's art, and each is well worth exploring. Future Games is the only one with long-form Danny pieces, so you might find others more to your taste. Good day to you!

    N.... M....

Start with Danny’s early blues stuff and all the insane solos he played on peter greens albums with Danny (albatross solos black magic woman loving kind like crying and so on and on and on) Perhaps after years it’ll lead you back to this or his other stuff

  73. E.... N....

    RIP Danny.

  74. b.... ....

Unreal...the backing riff on this is so hypnotic to play along with on guitar. It transports you to another place and makes you wish the song would never end...

  75. J.... G....

Happy Birthday Danny Kirwan and may God Bless You

  76. F.... P....

    Super song, brings great memories
I remember how I liked the record cover with the kids, now I have got kids like that....

  77. J.... Z....

Danny and Bob you will always be missed !!!

  78. d.... c....

Future Games . . . sadly very underappreciated and underacknowledged. (is that a word?)

    d.... c....

    underrated is a better term.

    d.... c....

I know exactly what you mean

  79. F.... C....

    1:32...watch your speed if driving..

  80. .... ....

This was one of my favorite song 70'S.
I still love the song 👍👍

  81. B.... M....

This song reminds me of what it feels like to walk down a quiet beach on a cool evening in late summer, with someone special.

    B.... M....

    Well said, Ben.

  82. D.... E....

After very much thought and consideration, I have come to the realization that this is the best song I have ever heard.

    D.... E....

this is not the best I've ever heard, but it's my favorite Fleetwood Mac song

    D.... E....

I just laughed when reading your post but not at you, it’s just that it’s so difficult to pick one song as the best of all time but in my opinion it’s right up there as some of the best music ever and one of their best tunes. Love reading this stuff

    D.... E....

This is the Fleetwood Mac I fell in love with when I was 15 . So long ago. Way before Stevie & Lindsey. This is the best. Love this album.

    D.... E....

    Gets to the soul.
    You are right

  83. s.... ....

This song is magical! I remember hearing this song at an open air concert. The way it echoed off the distant trees was the most awesome sound! Sigh! Thanks for offering this!

  84. D.... G....

This song is a true classic. Kirwans "lilting" riff before the final vocals segment is something I have found magical since the albumen debuted (1970?). As I meandered through the confines of SF State from '67-'72 I saw guys like Kaukonen, Garcia, Cippolina and other folks who seemed to have reached the level of master guitarists while still in their 20's. Kirwan is in that rare group of musicians who could only have peaked because of the "cultural climate" of that era. And, yes, you heard right: it was a magical time like nothing else I have experienced in my almost 70 years .

  85. I.... M....

This is so good.. I was 15 when I first heard this while smoking a joint. . good stuff.. beautiful.

    I.... M....

    Me too!

  86. M.... A....

Much unappreciated talent of danny kirwan, melodic guitar like no one else

  87. J.... L....

Dear English speaking Humanity....I apologize for being an apparent A$$hat......but if you don't like this song and it's heart filled weeping and wanton guitar notes......then it might be a good time to rethink what your heart does.....besides just beat.

  88. b.... ....

    this is such great music...

  89. b.... ....

Danny's genius is all over this cut. The vocals, the intro picking, the volume swells beginning at 6:30...this song gives me shivers it's so good.

    b.... ....

    Danny Kirwan

    b.... ....

True story. My roommate's stereo was stolen out of our apt. in 1977. Being young and a jerk, the first thing I said was, "Oh no! My Future Games album was on the turntable!!

    Great album.

    b.... ....

He was a gift to all of us.

  90. J.... D....

    This brings me ba
ck to a perfect Summer day in 2000 driving up the Palisades Pkwy in NY to a pre wedding party in my POS 86 Chrysler LeBaron with my then girlfriend and her young son, Memories and a nice drive and Future Games on cassette don't get much better than that.

  91. e.... ....

Love this wonderful song  -- reminds me of my hippie days

    e.... ....

    Agree. Same here

  92. r.... ....

really sad no more people prop this. YES, danny kirwan. and yes bob welch. fleetwood mac was growing here. the grew more with stevie and lindsay. peeps need to check this out.....f

  93. f.... ....

    Danny Kirwan!

    f.... ....

I know, right? So under-appreciated, so far ahead of his time. And to wind up where he is now...tragic.
