Fleet Foxes - Cassius, – Lyrics

[Under the water]
[Rain]

Past my window, out in the street
Life makes short work of all I see
Men take the change from beggars
Tight bound in sheets
Red and blue, the useless sirens scream

Song of masses, passing outside
All inciting the fifth of July
When guns for hire open fire
Blind against the dawn
When the knights in iron took the pawn
You and I, out into the night
Held within the line that they have drawn

[Above the surface]

As I went they're all beside us in silence
As if unaffected amid the violence
Ooh, are we also tamed?
I was in a river, as if in water
Wife, a son, a son, a son and a daughter
Ooh, are we also tamed?

[Under the water again]

I walked home, no words to say
Cassius, one month gone on his way
And who will lead us
And who remains to die?
By a thread, drop my head to cry

[Above the surface]

As I went they're all beside us in silence
As if unaffected amid the violence
Ooh, are we also tamed?
I was in a river, as if in water
Wife, a son, a son, a son and a daughter
Ooh, are we also tamed?

Ooh
Ooh
Ooh

[At sea, in a storm]

  7. D.... R....

    Truly talented individuals

  8. s.... ....

The sounds they use make me feel so much, it all envokes nostalgia, even the subtle cicada sound in the background.

    V.... D....

    Where'd you hear that?

  19. F.... o....

This album is definitely more of a departure for them, stylistically. Much different than previous efforts. It's definitely less accessible. Not sure how I feel about it yet.

    F.... o....

Savage Dragon need more amount of listen i guess

    F.... o....

i've relistened to this album on multiple occasions. It came out in June and I'm just now realizing how perfect this album is. Took awhile to appreciate it for sure

    F.... o....

Thoughts 10 months on? Absolutely their best album, for mine.

    F.... o....

I think it takes a couple things- first a lot of time for it to sort of grow on you and also you can’t compare it to their other albums. There is no comparison. The more I listen to it the more I like it. After some time it’s become my favorite album by them. I feel like when I listen to it different songs become new favorites and you notice subtleties in the songs the more you listen to them. At first I frankly hated this album. I thought they went off the deep end and were entirely inaccessible for any person. I think this album has changed me for the better. Rare to happen.

    F.... o....

@yakov elentukh I feel completely the same

  20. E.... P....

im so haappy right now!!! thank you fleet foxes for the surreal music!

  24. D.... C....

STORY BEHIND THE SONG: This story is about a nepoleon era refugee family escaping the Baltic wars. A man named Sir Gregory Stolfints lead a group of refugees up the Osatowa coast to Belgium and along the way they were fired at by turkish armed forces... legend has it this was total bull shit and I made all this up. fucking great song though fellas keep it up!

    D.... C....

I should've paid attention when I was reading it, the coast leading up to Belgium is called the Osatowa coast?

    D.... C....

this song is mostly about the shooting of Alton Sterling and the protests in NYC!

    D.... C....

    you got me there

    D.... C....

I'm really depressed, your comment made me lol. Thanks for that

    D.... C....

I was almost going to comment about how wrong this was.

  25. H.... P....

You should know that you're an amazing band, really.

  26. R.... B....

  27. C.... P....

    very much good

  28. U.... ....

    Thank you!

  29. P.... J....

Fleet Foxes and Mark Kozelek really need to collaborate. Yes.

    P.... J....

It's weird to imagine Kozelek's crushing reality with Fleet Foxes' imaginative and surreal sounds, but boy do i want it to happen!

    P.... J....

pecknold and jim james voice collab

    P.... J....

As well as Andy Hull, from Manchester Orchestra.

  30. H.... ....

    You guys are the best!

  31. M.... L....

I always hoped they would finish Silver City...when I heard that opening section I almost cried...thanks FF for another amazing record.

  32. d.... k....

    Best fucking song

  33. A.... D....

Thank you for this masterpiece 🔥
