Flatliners, The - Human Party Trick Lyrics

I did do those things on purpose. I'm an expert in my field.
I'll pull out my pockets perfect. Other tricks up my sleeve still.

Are you treading water gently? Or are you the current still?
Just stand and smile politely and internalize the thrill.

Yeah did I make you some promise? To be bound to struggle still?
To a decade lived dishonest where at least the feeling's real.
I think, I hope it's real.

So come on, let's hang up all the moments that get in the way.
Where you feel like you're a human party trick to entertain.

Yeah did I make you some promise? To be bound to struggle still?
To a decade lived dishonest where at least the feeling's real.
I think, I hope it's real.

Yeah did I make you some promise? To be bound to struggle still?
To a decade lived dishonest where at least the feeling's real.
Yeah so now that I'm the artist I can paint the picture pale.
I can twist my words, the overture to finally feel what's real.
I think, I hope it's real.

Flatliners, The Human Party Trick Comments
  1. b.... ....

What a voice this man has.
    .raspy...melodic and raw..just perfect

  2. Y.... a....

Friend just texted me saying “these guys are comin to town wanna go” so here I am and they are pretty gnarly not goin to lie haha

  3. A.... D....

    woo 1k!

  4. G.... ....

    Summer song right here

  5. p.... ....

The flatliners are their own band and can do whatever the fuck they want but old fans are allowed to complain. These people bitching about the new sound are the ones who bough their records, wore their merch, and went to their shows to build them into what they are. They have a right to complain. If you like the new stuff great, but as an old fan I defend our right to say what is this shit?

    p.... ....

I hate how every album grows on me in time.

  6. A.... ....

    Sweet song :)

  7. D.... T....

I listened to the first 3 tracks, skipped through to the last, haven't jammed since. That new dopamines tho

  8. P.... N....

They come in my city on the summer am so existed

  9. W.... M....

So this is what punk sounds like when you switch labels and hand over creative control...

  10. M.... L....

Im a fan or the flats since destroy to create and i dont like they new Stuff 😕

  11. j.... ....

Worst vocals in current punk vocals i've heard. Should be on the radio next to other pop rock.

  12. C.... 8....

I like the sound of this, been listening to the Flats since the early 2000's and i love the evolution they've gone through over the years. Can't wait to pick this album up!

  13. a.... ....

Dude, what the fuck is up with that vocal effect on all the songs from this album? It just makes it un-listenable to me. Like, it literally gives me a headache.

"Here, put this kazoo in your mouth while you sing, it'll sound sick bro!"

  14. M.... ....

why arent they on fat wreckords?

  15. E.... J....

saw the album cover on the back of this month's ap magazine, not disappointed

  16. J.... C....

I wish everyone would stop boxing them into a corner. I think it's absolute classic song writing at its best. there's a heck of a lot of talent in this band.

    J.... C....

The writing isn't the problem. All three songs they've released are so far are great songs with fantastic writing, but it's drowned in effects, it sounds lifeless and flat. It's a real shame considering how energetic and raw all their other stuff sounds.

  17. E.... F....

one of my favorite bands at their worst. Painful because it so clearly COULD be a great song! Still looking forward to the album though!

    E.... F....

    blue and lonesome

  18. H.... M....

Fuck rise records this is your fault the song is amazing but sounds overproduced

  19. N.... C....

Chris your voice is perfect without that...distortion or whatever the fuck.

  20. R.... M....

Been listening to the Flatliners for over a decade and I have to say I really like how the band is developing, they continue to demonstrate range in terms of creativity and song writing.

  21. H.... J....

To all the people who are "concerned" about the new sound: What the fuck do you want? A remake of Cavalcade? You know you can go listen to that album right now if you want. You don't have to wait around for 5 years to hear the same songs you have been listening to get released with new cover art. Do you want to get ripped off and just hear the same thing over and over and over again? Or do you want a NEW album. Ya know, with NEW songs and a NEW sound? If not, go listen to their OLD stuff. You don't have to wait for new music to listen to old sounds.

    H.... J....

Hal J Smokes i realize people can come down on the flatliners to hard for always making totally new album. That said dony act like the fans dont get to say their point of view. I paid to go see them live, i bough tickets, i bought merc, i brought people to shows and turned people to them. Its every day fans that allowed bands to make this many albums andnif they dont like it they do have every right to bitch and complain. This is a fine indy album in a genera i think is anemic and boring and ive earned the right to say that.

  22. B.... G....

I'm just assuming/hoping this is the lightest most accessible song on the album so they decided to release it first to kind of introduce them to the Rise fans. I'd think the move from Fat was done because they thought it would help them reach more people and make new fans. And they know no matter how much internet bitching a few armchair sound engineers do that if they like The Flats their going to check out this album. So first song, you don't preach to the choir, you try to get all these metalcore kids that are still listening to dorks scream about girls into a really good band.

And people should stop using the term "overproduced" when really what you mean is it's not produced the way you like. Yeah, the guitar tone sucks, the drums sound like a bass trap was thrown on top of them and Chris is less snarly than usual, but it's not "overproduced", it's just poorly produced for the type of band they are. But who knows, maybe this is exactly how they wanted to sound and we would have gotten the exact same song if they were still on Fat.

  23. B.... B....

This will definitely be way better live

  24. X.... L....

    Where is breakdown? :(

  25. .... ....

    such a like music!

  26. L.... B....

The song is good, the lyrics are good, the production is shocking. I don't like this common trend of removing the primal growl from guitars and making them sound like soft synthesised nothings. You might as well not have guitars in at that point. Not too keen on the vocal effect either. Maybe moving to Rise wasn't a good idea for them. #maketheflatlinersgrowlagain.

    L.... B....

    Perfect comment, guitars are lifeless.

    L.... B....

Liam B I am excited to see them progress. They will never have another Cavalcade, but this has me super excited to see what happens next.

    L.... B....

Yeah, they went from raw punk to pop punk.

    L.... B....

*They will never have another Destroy to Create - fixed that for you. Life is suffering

    L.... B....

Kelly Sunseri-Adams It always was poppy in terms of songwriting, but it was less so and the production was way more raw.

  27. X.... X....

    Nothing. I feel nothing.

  28. G.... ....

Hmm, I dont think its a great song and the guitars dont sound too good. But...did you guys also freak out when you listened to tail feathers? flatliners can do great "quiet" songs, so the tempo is not the problem here.

  29. M.... B....

What happened to your guitars? And your tempo? Sheesh, I'm worried now...

  30. n.... r....

Monumental will be forever favorite song from The Flatliners but this isn't bad I like it

  31. A.... -....

i like this but it sounds like im hearing it through another object as if somethings blocking it???

  32. J.... ....

This is great. And there sure are a whole lot of whiners in the comments that just want a clone of Cavalcade as every release. I love how every Flats album has its own sound and vibe

    J.... ....

JesseLikesFood I like an album different from the other, but I like it when the quality goes up not when it becomes just another commercial sound like any other

    J.... ....

you fucking nailed it man......what a bunch of crybaby douchebags. Love how they change it up

    J.... ....

Exactly! Their Ska was sick, and their more "indie" stuff is great aswell, I just love how every release surprises me in a different way.

    J.... ....

JesseLikesFood I don't mind it sounding different, I loved the last album even if it wasn't cavalcade. But I fundamentally expect Punk rawness. Without it I may as well listen to other bands and genres. This isn't bad, but it lacks what makes them special to me.

  33. D.... ....

Don't really like the direction they're going.

  34. T.... C....

    I'm confused. 😔

  35. .... ....

    Russia loves you, guys
    Great song
    Thank you

  36. P.... L....

    amazing band

  37. N.... A....

What's the problem with being a rock band? This song sounds like a 90s pop band. I already miss the "cavalcade". Please dont play this shit here in Brazil!

  38. P.... M....

    MakeTheFlatlinersSkaAgain

    P.... M....

Who the fuck would know that unless they were there? didn't even know what Fest was until I looked it up. If it was a joke it was very subtle. Not understandable by anyone unless they were at Fest and happened to remember some small line someone in a band said at a date in history. His sentence was completely indistinguishable from a joke or statement.

    P.... M....

obbygift you sound mad on the internet

    P.... M....

Eric Matheson Photography Hell yeah! You ever hear there acoustic small record shop version of it? It's on YouTube and it's beautiful.

    P.... M....

obbygift I wasn't there and I knew. I guess you'd have to follow them on social media or something to know about it if you weren't there. But now you are in the joke! Use it to your advantage!

  39. H.... M....

top 10 overproduced songs ive heard this year. doesn't even sound like actual instruments ??

  40. C.... H....

    ❤👌

  41. L.... V....

    Good Job ¡¡¡

  42. S.... S....

Pretty Gnarly dudes! Can't wait to hang again in Seattle sometime soon

  43. C.... ....

    this is so good

  44. L.... G....

good song but way too overproduced

    L.... G....

Chardee McFry I wholeheartedly agree. It's still a good song just not one of their best

    L.... G....

I get you, the writing and playing is great, but the instruments almost sound fake, like they don't have enough impact. Too polished.

    L.... G....

An ok song, let's see if they have something better,

    L.... G....

I'm not a fan of the effects they put on the vocals. It washes out what is usually such a raw, powerful voice!

    L.... G....

Yeah, they shoulda stayed with fat wreck. Chris is such an amazing songwriter though, can't wait to see what else is on this album.

  45. G.... ....

    The fuck is this? lmao

    G.... ....

GalaxyKing well, this is a band that has more integrity than all of the shitty, trendhopping bands on this shit label put together, I ASSUME.

    G.... ....

    The Flatliners- Inviting Light

    G.... ....

a really good band, and a legendary one at that.

    G.... ....

    It WAS a good band

    G.... ....

I'll always be a huge fan, I think Chris is a brilliant song writer but I really wasn't expecting this album to sound so poppy.

  46. c.... ....

dammit Rise I'm almost ready to forgive all your signings between 2007-10.

  47. o.... ....

    Good job boys

  48. E.... B....

Great track! I hope there's lots of synths and auto-tune on this record.

    Limp Bizkit feature anywhere?

  49. R.... S....

So good! The new album is going to be killer.

  50. C.... ....

Great signing. One of the best bands on Fat and now by far the best band on Rise. Good stuff.
