Flaming Lips, The - One More Robot - Sympathy 3000-21 Lyrics

Unit three thousand twenty one is warming
Makes a humming sound - when its circuits
Duplicate emotions - and a sense of coldness detaches
As it tries to comfort your sadness

One more robot learns to be
Something more than a machine
When it tries the way it does
Makes it seem like it can love
Cause it's hard to say what's real
When you know the way you feel
Is it wrong to think it's love
When it tries the way it does...

Feeling a synthetic kind of love
Dreaming a sympathetic wish
As the lights blink faster and brighter

One more robot learns to be
Something more than a machine
When it tries the way it does
Makes it seem like it can love
Cause it's hard to say what's real
When you know the way you feel
Is it wrong to think it's love
When it tries the way it does...

Flaming Lips, The One More Robot - Sympathy 3000-21 Comments
  1. J.... S....

    rA9 will guide us

  2. C.... ....

I like the Amiga-esque bass line throughout.

  3. D.... ....

This is one of a few other gems i found while listening to the whole album.
Apart from yoshimi pt2. Just...no. Scared the shit out of me while tripping.
Thing is i come from a usually rock background so i was surprisrd i even like the lips.

  4. S.... M....

One More Robot is absolutely one of their best songs. Just sublime

  5. H.... ....

I feel like this is definitely their most lyrically driven album. On The Soft Bulletin and Satellite Heart Wayne mastered the way of capturing raw emotion through vague and simplistic lyrics, which was accompanied by fantastic music arrangements. On Pink Robots they changed to a more direct lyrical approach. Where Wayne had selected very specific, and usually difficult feelings and pursued them. I think what we get in the end is a Lips album that really nails what it was supposed to be. And truly shows their ability to set out and deliver on a conceptual basis across a complete album.

  6. L.... H....

Amé este álbum cuando lo escuché por vez primera, lo amo y lo amaré por siempre!

  7. l.... c....

I feel old listening to this album but beautiful at the same time

  8. t.... r....

Is anybody else feeling strong Tame Impala vibes? I think that this was very influential for their sound.

    t.... r....

Yeah, I suppose man. I could see this album being an influence towards material found on the Lonerism album. But to be fair, Tame Impala have their own sound that kinda I suppose puts them in their own category, just as the Flaming Lips have a sound that puts them in their own category. Probably over analyzing it but yeah, it's whatever you make of it.

  9. G.... ....

Someday soon, if robots don't become our overlords, they're going to become some of our gentlest & most supportive friends.

    G.... ....

Haha you made me think about Battlestar Galattica.

  10. P.... H....

The beautiful symphonic bit at the end would make a phillistine weep...

  11. e.... ....

I bought this album from begin

  12. e.... ....

    awesome legendary band

  13. t.... w....

this is such an underrated lips song

  14. A.... A....

anybody know any other songs that have a vibe similar to the last minute of this song?

    A.... A....

Maybe "Motion Picture Soundtrack" by Radiohead? In a way.

    A.... A....

Check out other Lips songs from The Soft Bulletin album. They all kind of have that vibe going on, especially "Feeling Yourself Disintegrate"

  15. B.... ....

Reminds me of Little Big Planet 2 for some reason

  16. J.... F....

The last minute of the song is the robot going from just a machine to learning how to have emotions. I don't know if that was obvious but I didn't get it on my first listen.

  18. T.... T....

God I miss this era of the flaming lips...

  19. J.... B....

    Too good. :)

  20. J.... M....

    This song is fucking amazing

  21. V.... M....

Such a masterpiece...gets me in my feels every time. Long Live the Flaming Lips.

  22. A.... M....

This song gives me crazy childhood nostalgia but I'm sure I never heard of it back then.

    A.... M....

That's because it's not childhood nostalgia - art like this calls to our souls, hearkening from the place we visit in dreams, behind the veil, the source of myth and consciousness
It is a place we are closer to in childhood thus the confusion/reminiscence for such nostalgia

    A.... M....

Robert Taylor this warmed my fuckin heart

    A.... M....

The album makes me think im inside a cartoony and trippy version of Japan

  23. D.... B....

    THIS SONG IS FUCKING AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    D.... B....

    YES SR !!!

  24. M.... 7....

Just started listening to the Flaming Lips..they're trippy and dreamy, I'm loving the combination.

    M.... 7....

    Listen to Cynic

  25. J.... R....

This song and shrooms are just a whole different experience in itself

    J.... R....

hands down best album for boomers

    J.... R....

You could say the same thing about "story in your eyes". But I know what you mean.

    J.... R....

I gotta try this next time I find shrooms

    J.... R....

Diego Hernandez you won't regret it

    J.... R....

Spring 2003 listened to it at a mountain lake with full moon over head. A great time was had by all.

  26. N.... V....

Hey guys, I made a bass tutorial/lesson for this song on my channel if you want to check it out. Thank you!

  27. J.... G....

    💕💕

  28. E.... F....

One time I was @ home, chilling, having some ecstasy and playing video games. Then water spilled all over my tablets and instead risking them being spoiled I took them all (5-7 pieces). Then I got as high as I've ever been in my life.. I think. Anyways, I stayed up all night, played this album on repeat and faded in and out of consciousness. It was pretty great.

    E.... F....

@Grier Rouse Or at least throw up an awful lot

    E.... F....

@Grier Rouse if you're dying from, at most, 7 pieces, you got some fucked up shit already. The good stuff can be felt as easily as 1 tab, but if 7 hits kills you, you got some fucked up shit. And serotonin syndrome is extremely, well, extreme. not 7 hits extreme, lol.

    E.... F....

people have died from as little as 200mg of MDMA and I've personally taken pills that were 330mg, serotonin syndrome and other nasty side effects can happen at as low as 100mg but it's extremely rare. Anything above 300mg is a serious risk for an inexperienced user

    E.... F....

    Great story, Hansel.

  29. a.... b....

bring you to the other dimension..

  30. D.... ....

The Nostalgia is too fing strong in this one x_X

    D.... ....

    true ;c

    D.... ....

    I hear you ...

  31. a.... j....

All flaming lips rocks.  synthetic robotic erotic ;)

  32. S.... J....

The last minute of this song.

    S.... J....

    Drozanized❤️

    S.... J....

Also the first 4 minutes tho

    S.... J....

And the fact that it goes on to play YBTPR Pt. 1

    S.... J....

    BRUH I can't take it.

  33. B.... ....

I love it when a song stays fresh in your mind for years to come! I still love this song.

    B.... ....

came into my mind for the first time in maybe 7 years last night, been studying the bass line. Still quality.

  34. B.... ....

Dude Stephen Harrison... Your bashing a genre after you said you didn't like people who bash genres!! What is it with people?

  35. b.... ....

That would ruin the song....the whole point of this albulm is that it stands out from any other.

  36. J.... ....

Yeah but getting the right synth sound is just one part it, actually producing a good track is another. As I said it's as simple or as hard as you make it.
And I disagree even more because long youtube debates are the fucking best.

  37. J.... ....

    Yeah maybe if you like Skrillex's take on dubstep...which I don't :P

  38. e.... ....

It is with dubstep - just throw a printer and a dial up modem down the stairs then..... .....FAX MACHINE SOLO

    e.... ....

electronicballast I don't always solo, but when I do, its a fax machine solo

  39. J.... ....

It's not just 'push a button and hey presto you have a song'. Learning to make music on a computer takes skill and has a learning curve just like a real instrument.

  40. I.... Y....

I suppose. Except its a lot easier to create a track on a computer than it is to acquire the skill to even play a simple piece of music on an instrument.

    I.... Y....

Invincible Youth Music real bass guitar

  41. J.... ....

Well it's as hard as you make it, just like all music.

  42. M.... ....

Anythings Wayne Coyne & friendster Are taking....i want some :D

  43. J.... ....

Annnnnnnnnd I've just seen another comment with you referencing Burial....feel free to ignore me!

  44. J.... ....

Old/Alternative Dubstep (or just Burial in general) is good!

  45. S.... A....

I'm sorry, but do you know what an ignorant ass that comment makes you out to be? Dubstep is a genre, and just like ANY genre has it's share of hits and misses. If you don't like it fine, but to sit there and say there is no good dubstep or that none of the producers who make it are talented or put any of their souls into the tracks they make is bullshit and just plain wrong. From a producer stand point, dubstep is fucking hard to make. Also I know, old comment, but I couldn't help myself here.

  46. A.... 0....

    i want a cry :'(

  47. S.... K....

made me weep when they played it live, amazing music

  48. e.... ....

    I like this song.

  49. J.... S....

i think every song of the lips are better live!

  50. S.... B....

    this song is better live

  51. 3.... ....

    Perfection.
Feeling a synthetic kind of love, Dreaming a sympathetic wish, As the lights blink faster and brighter, One more robot learns to be something more than a machine, when it tries the way it does, make it seem, Like it can love.

  52. j.... w....

Shut the fuck up, all of you.

  53. A.... M....

I'm assuming you mean objectively good? Like, just well-made music? I mean, you don't really have to look much further than Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites. The melody in that song is beautiful, dude. I can understand if you don't like the intense mid-range growl basses and shit, but the actual musicianship behind it is stellar. I'm okay with people saying they don't like dubstep, but saying that it's "a horrible excuse for calling yourself a musician" is, well, wrong.

  54. J.... S....

I have to say the flaming lips is my favorite band, but seriously?? Quit bashing on other genres, I'm so fucking tired of seeing this. I love dubstep, hardstyle, alot of electronic genres, I must say I really, really hate mainstream pop. But damn it's annoying to see people bitching about other genres.

  55. A.... M....

As someone who makes dubstep, this statement strikes me as offensive and ignorant. Do you even know how old you sound right now? I mean, Christ, I'm sure many people over the age of 60 wouldn't call The Flaming Lips music. What exactly do you think constitutes music?

  56. H.... ....

It's like saying people who use photoshop as a medium aren't real artists, some people can do some amazing and incredible things with computer art! :) Or they can change a couple colors and do basic things to a premade image. It's all discerned by who you're talking about!

  57. H.... ....

That's not true, music comes in many different forms, but the talent and creativity to mix a song and use basic dubs to make music people can dance to is NOT something anybody can do. Don't get me wrong, I love a man who can jam on the sax or hit some sweet notes, but you can't say that some DJs aren't musicians. Not all of course don't get me wrong, but there certainly are some.

  58. A.... ....

There shouldn't be a dubstep version of any song. That includes dubstep songs themselves.

  59. D.... D....

    trolololololololol

  60. B.... T....

i really wish u didn't mention that, because now i will never listen to this song the same way again.

  61. S.... ....

So you know how these guys are kinda Pink Floydish? I think I hear a Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here shoutout at 4:30.

  62. M.... M....

Songs in movies should never have much to do with the plot. Cheesy as fuck.

  63. n.... ....

"Synthetic kind of love" ...powerful lyrics

  64. M.... H....

3 people don't know the way they feel.

  65. E.... M....

I swear, i fall i love with this song even more each time i listen to it.

  66. s.... p....

Dubstep is avant garde, don't hate.

  67. s.... p....

No, I was talking about dubstep.

  68. s.... p....

Fuck you, it's avant garde, don't be such a goddamn philistine.

  69. R.... ....

    I have a belly button

  70. M.... F....

one of the most beautiful bass lines i have ever heard

  71. n.... ....

One of the Best songs on the album. The last two and a half minutes or so are absolutely breathtaking

  72. R.... ....

Can't help but think of [adult swim] when I hear those first 30 seconds...

  73. i.... ....

So this song, to me, is about someone who goes from apathetic to in-love, but their love is not really based on anything except their own desire to have the person.

Not really sure how "As it tries to comfort your sadness" ties in, though.

  74. O.... ....

    potatoes have skin.
    i have skin.
therefore i must be a potato.

  75. j.... ....

@likearollingstone257 why did you have to say that? You ruined the song for me D: lol now that's all I can think about

  76. s.... c....

Probably the album of the decade...

  77. J.... S....

@HyperSleepy you really can't see the narrative of the lyrics? this theme has been covered many times in science fiction novels and movies. "Blade Runner", "I Robot" hell, even "terminator" Try putting more thought into it.

  78. t.... z....

    Awesome song!!

  79. S.... H....

Why isnt there a dubstep version of this song.

  80. P.... B....

    love this song <3

  81. j.... ....

@Aclarado Fuck you, this is a beautiful song.

  82. C.... I....

never thought I'd see the day that this was boring. wow this is boring. I think the lips flamed out, bjork style. Snore.

    C.... I....

Clar Ified listen with headphones too all that bass

  83. J.... M....

@HyperSleepy Being "high", is almost never simple. especially if you do it right.

  84. b.... ....

@likearollingstone257 LMAO!!! I really like this song, but your theory is funny as hell.

  85. T.... B....

What are the chords for the end instumental??

  86. S.... D....

Never has there been a better song. Never

  87. M.... F....

@PrplhaZe Right? I'm telling you just read the lyrics. It's clear as day that this song is about one of those.

  88. M.... F....

I have a theory that this song is about a vibrator.

    M.... F....

    Malcolm Flex makes sense

  89. P.... R....

@LiNaK37 Yeh, of course they should, that's what I said, unfortunately the majority of the population do not have enough knowledge of music to recognize the pure art these guys produce, that's why we have main stream music, the writers have had to conform to popular models of song writing in order to sell records, flaming lips choose to do what they love whether it's popular in the main stream or not. It's popular enough for them to keep doing it, lucky for us.

  90. P.... R....

@crookedmelody1 I know what you mean, it is almost shameful that this is not incredibly popular music, I guess what I was reflecting on was the fact that these guys have maintained their art regardless of popular appeal, it's just great that there are people who see it's beauty.

  91. V.... L....

@proylea1 amen to that lol am just getting into flaming lips but from what i can tell there awsome

  92. P.... A....

@crookedmelody1 no man. just keep it like this cause if it becomes mainstream the song will die like all other mainstream songs do :(

  93. M.... C....

    great music!

  94. M.... ....

ONE person is a robot that doesn't know how to feel
