Christ saves based on His work on the cross, not because of our works. Reading and praying will never save you. Trusting in Christ, leading to repentance, will.

@Scott Simcoe Praying and Bible reading are extremely important in the life of a Christian. But it is not our good works that save us. Christ saves us. Jesus says this in John 5:39-40,
"39 You pore over[a] the Scriptures because you think you have eternal life in them, yet they testify about Me. 40 And you are not willing to come to Me so that you may have life."

My point is not to discourage Bible reading and prayer. Those things are necessary for the spiritual health of a Christian. But these things by themselves will not save you. We are saved by faith alone, through grace alone, because of Christ alone, and not because of works.
