Flack, Roberta - The Impossible Dream Lyrics

To dream the impossible dream
To fight the unbeatable foe
To bear with unbearable sorrow
To run where the brave dare not go

To right the unrightable wrong
To love pure and chaste from afar
To try when your arms are too weary
To reach the unreachable star

This is my quest, to follow that star
No matter how hopeless, no matter how far
To fight for the right, without question or pause
To be willing to march into Hell for a heavenly cause

And I know if I'll only be true
To this glorious quest
That my heart will lie peaceful and calm
When I'm laid to my rest

And the world will be better for this
That one man scorned and covered with scars
Still strove with his last ounce of courage
To reach the unreachable star!

l bought this record after the second Roberta concert l went to when l had just turned 19 in 1970. l can scarcely believe l bought the LP almost a half century ago, and the CD 30 years ago. It is an amazing, inspired AND inspiring album.

Beautiful! I hear NINA SIMONE in most phrases...Not as direct and focused as Ms. Simone but ...more melodic. via Roberta Flack...yet equally as moving. This is NOT a comparidon per se. Ms, Flack is also a singer and pianist. of much respect. Thank you for sharing.

Michaelangelo Davis: You are so right. I've heard Nina Simone in Roberta Flack from the beginning. Both are outstanding vocalists.

    M.... D....

...when Flack came on the scene you was often compared to and regarded as the new Nina Simone, damn I'm old.
