Flack, Roberta - Gone Away Lyrics

I try to reason and I tell myself you'll return
But you are gone and I know, I know, I know you're gone
You were mine for only a minute and if I hurt you I didn't intend it

You are gone away, I keep telling my mind
You're not gonna stay
Yet I believe sometimes that I've lost you, baby
I've lost you, baby and you are gone

Forgive and forget it, that's not what I'll ask you to do
'Cause I want you back, you know, you know I want you back
And in concluding my mental displeasure
I found I've lost my prize possession

You are gone away, I keep telling my mind
You're not gonna stay
Yet I believe sometimes that I've lost you, baby
I've lost you, baby and you are gone

You were mine for only a minute and if I hurt you I didn't intend it
You are gone away, I keep telling my mind
You're not gonna stay
Yet I believe sometimes I've lost you, baby
I've lost you, baby and you are gone

Very enthralling filled with fiery delivery. Roberta is among the greatest vocalists. Simply magical.

  5. T.... T....

Donny's genius is all through this🙌

  6. R.... ....

DJ Toomp didn't straight sample the song, he sampled part of the melody.

    R.... ....

Apparently when he did sample it for what you know; it didn’t sound right. I like the version he made those synthesizers are mean...

  7. 6.... ....

    What you know about Flack...

  8. L.... O....

    I want you back😍

  9. K.... G....

Donny co-wrote this with Curtis as well as Leroy Hutson. First done by the Impressions, Roberta took this to a whole 'nother level with her college chum Donny on the piano. Brilliance in every note.

  10. c.... ....

3:59 what you know about that... Tips greatest song imo

  11. T.... T....

I know Donny wrote this for Roberta but I can't help but feel he should've sung on this exact arrangement and put some more emotion into every note.

  12. S.... L....

Dj Paul sampled this the best

    S.... L....

  23. J.... H....

    Beautiful

  24. H.... G....

one of the and her best songs ever song😊🖖

  25. C.... S....

Came here from VSB. I love every second of this! The horn section got me balling up my face like I smell something stank but can't stop sniffing!

  26. R.... S....

    Classic!

  27. J.... T....

    Hey Joe - Jimi Hendrix

  28. T.... U....

Hey I just watched a very sad video Naomi was forced to vacate her women's champion due to her injury at the elimination chamber PPV

Such a beautiful song to go to.

  29. I.... V....

I named my daughter Jessie. I named her while she was in my tummy. I was 6 months pregnant in my Volkswagen Beetle driving to a maternity shop in Calgary Alberta Canada in 1974 when the song Jesse came on the radio. I knew right then that this was my unborn child's name whether male or female. My Jessie was born September 17 1974. It was the perfect name for her. We didn't even think to give her a second name. My Jessie died in her sleep on July 19 2016. She was 41 years old. Now I listen to this song and it resonates perfectly how I feel today. I just want my Jessie to come home.

    I.... V....

    I'm sorry...

    I.... V....

    Beautiful. All my love x

    I.... V....

But why.. Was it that desease when they sometimes monitor sleep with special devices.. Apnoe or how s that called.. In any way, my condolences.. Life is life, sometimes its extremely unfair

  30. G.... F....

Jimmy Page definitely "borrowed" the hook between verses for the Rain Song.

  31. B.... J....

Every time I listen to this song I realize the outstanding people in my life that have passed. It is unfortunate that I did not take the time to understand them and to appreciate what they had to offer me. But, as my life has gone forward I have learned have more appreciation for those who are truly important in my life.

  32. L.... L....

Donny Hathaway could have made an engine with a bad cylinder hum. This song, more than any other Flack-Hathaway collaboration, is my favorite. It was the first they did together, I think.

  33. I.... V....

There are no Word's s I Have for My Favorite  Singer  Roberta Flack Since I was a Young  Girl..She is My Favorite....God Bless Her..:)

  34. p.... ....

The tuba line, that tuba. ..I keep telling my mind you're not gonna stay. ....

  35. j.... l....

Aaaa mis años de adolecente . ..para recordar

  36. I.... V....

nooooooooooo that fucking t.i sample!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! noooooooooooooo

  37. H.... Y....

I swear, all the best rap songs are samples or reworks of great classics.

    H.... Y....

@Dave Dawkins I also think most of the good stuff has already been written. That's why I feel it's more challenging than ever to compose a great song; because it's going to have to be extremely complex but still have a simplistic enough melody to keep the listener entertained. But I think sampling still has a lot of potential nowadays with emphasis on the new techniques being used on vocals; such as pitching, layering, rearranging.. it can add a nostalgic touch to a newly composed melody and create a new sound altogether.

    H.... Y....

Yeah....It's more about the sound and technology now than the melody.

    H.... Y....

    you swear?

    H.... Y....

D Me that's a false notion. The technology is just a means to achieve the ultimate goal of creating a classic. The most important part of the whole process is the vision of an artist and a producer to convey what they hear in their mind. a good amount of that success can be attributed to pure luck also.

    H.... Y....

So what does that tell you?? it tells me the baton is no longer in hand, and the artist today are mostly frauds, no creatvity, and no shame, when the time comes to pass the baton they will not have anything to pass on, these folks are disgustedly asleep at the wheel!!

  38. s.... ....

Beautiful version of a Curtis Mayfield song originally performed by the Impressions- thank you

    s.... ....

Whoops checked credits and Curtis cowrote with Donny Hathaway. No wonder such a wonderful song. We miss you Donny and Curtis

  39. K.... Y....

I would love to do a band with this musical configuration, strings, piano deep and sultry, a little jazz-- deep resonant voice. Where is that music today?

  40. m.... t....

    roberta you my everything

  41. D.... C....

WOW .... I remember this song as a teenager

  42. s.... ....

"Hey joe, where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
Hey joe, I said where you goin' with that gun in your hand?
I'm goin' down to shoot my old lady
You know I caught her messin' 'round with another man"

Yes, that ending does sound like Hendrix's "Hey Joe" - Donny Hathaway would use that same pattern for his Ray Charles remake "I Believe to My Soul"

    s.... ....

@solesirching73 Deep Purple: *'Hush'*  (and  -  -  a few things by The Beatles).

  43. p.... ....

    @Jarvase dundy starts at 4:00

    m.... ....

The end reminds me of Hey Joe by Jimi.

    R.... F....

    That's true!

  49. K.... R....

Is it considered a "sample" when it is the original?

    K.... R....

Nope its then considered an "interpolation" www.beatlocker.org

  50. R.... G....

    Happy birthday, Roberta!

  51. D.... D....

    La, la, La!!!!!

  52. B.... J....

Oh, do I remember this song.  There were far too many women in my life and just not enough of me to share.  But, I learned a lesson from my missteps.  A man must mature sometime in life-I was 26 years old at the time.  Thank you, Roberta for that song it brings back memories both good and forgettable-but memories none the less.

    B.... J....

It was when i read the comments under the Ti instrumental for '' what you know about that"' that someone said this was the original instrumental. i love TI instrumental . Best of all time

  54. t.... ....

I have to add that Roberta, voice with that orchestra, blends so well and magnificent, the horns and strings and that bass guitar! Well let's just say you, have got to have special skills and chops to do a song like this! Roberta owns it!

  55. J.... i....

  60. g.... p....

One of the greatest gifts God has given to us is "LOVE", we must embrace it, thank him for it, no unspoken words, deeds undone, expressions of feelings or communication, because once your true love is "gone away" they are really gone to stay! My true love left this world January 28, 2008. I will never forget him, "MY ONE TRUE LOVE"

  66. M.... ....

beautiful song .... I like the multiple feels ... especially the "the hey joe " feel by jimi hendrix

  67. j.... ....

It also sounds like "Hey Joe" from Jimmy Hendrix

  68. S.... ....

Preach! I used to play a Tuba in grade school, high school, and college. I still play, but when I"m depressed I play Gone Away and By The Time I Get To Phoenix. This is real music that had something to say.I wish they would get back to this kind of music, but I think not.

Great song and elicits fantastic memories. I saw Roberta do most of the Chapter Two album at the Mill Run Theater outside of Chicago in '72, and 40 years later I get the same goose bumps. rykachet try uploading more of that album, I'd appreciate it.

  93. S.... ....

Rickyd - the songwriting credits are: Hathaway, Mayfield, Hutson (what a lineup that is!) but years ago I was told it is mainly written by Donny. The arrangements on this version are by him too, as was the case with the original version by the Impressions. Amazing song, loved it for years and still sounds as good as ever!

  94. a.... m....

@yetanothergrunt u jizzed outta your ears? ewwwww...

  95. T.... ....
