Five For Fighting - 100 Years Lyrics

I'm 15 for a moment
Caught in between 10 and 20
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

I'm 22 for a moment
And she feels better than ever
And we're on fire
Making our way back from Mars

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose
15 there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live

I'm 33 for a moment
I'm still the man, but you see I'm a "they"
A kid on the way, babe
A family on my mind

I'm 45 for a moment
The sea is high
And I'm heading into a crisis
Chasing the years of my life

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to lose yourself
Within a morning star

15 I'm all right with you
15 there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live

Half time goes by
Suddenly you’re wise
Another blink of an eye
67 is gone
The sun is getting high
We're moving on

I'm 99 for a moment
And dying for just another moment
And I'm just dreaming
Counting the ways to where you are

15 there's still time for you
22 I feel her too
33 you’re on your way
Every day's a new day

15 there's still time for you
Time to buy and time to choose
Hey 15 there's never a wish better than this
When you only got a hundred years to live

To many kids in my childrens high school passed away the year this came out. No drunks, drugs just separate accidents. when you are small town and only about 30-40 in the senior class and you lose 7 kids in one year is just horrible. all were really good kids. Graduation that year was nothing but tears. I will always remember them all and this song always takes me back to that tragic time in my childrens lives. So sad to go to more funerals than proms.

    Jeff Burdette

I was a toddler when this song came out, and for a while it was my favorite song because it was only 1 of like 4 songs I knew at the time. Now I'm nearing 20 and have listened to almost every song ever, this song is no longer my favorite, but it still holds a special place in my heart mainly because it defined my early childhood.

I'm a person who says I'm not scared of anything. I have no secrets. Really I'm scared of a lot I have a huge ass secret. People don't want you to know that there going to die or you'll do stuff for them but until I die I'm gonna live live live.

  33. samuel kirk

Such a thoughtful song. Great stuff.

  34. John H

    Never wish your time away

  35. Andy Roid

It's funny how this song, when only heard as 'background music' (*as it often is), sounds like just another happy little song they might play on a loop at your local CVS... and in a lot of ways, it IS that 'happy little song'... but yet, it is SO much more.

However, (and if you have read this far), when a 'deeper listen' is applied to this modern masterpiece, you soon realize this song delivers quite a deeply emotional & moving message.

And those of us who are lucky enough to have taken the time to pause, and really absorb & ponder the deep meaning of this song's masterfully written lyrics, are rewarded with the telling of the story of a man lucky enough to have lived a full life - not just in terms of quantity (100 years), but of quality.

I hope to, one day, to have lived, loved, & died as the 'the truly blessed man' that he sings about in this bittersweet song.

And happily (or perhaps it's actually sadly), I'm about half-way there.

note: This is one of a handful of songs that can often bring me to tears. And I feel that if a song can evoke such strong emotions/feelings, especially from the tear ducts of a middle-aged man as myself, then that songwriter is basically.... a legend!

    So true

  64. Jonathan Trauner

In the loving memories of Kobe Bryant, Gianna Bryant, and Kobe and Gianna's beloved family friends who passed away this week in Calabasas California in a devastating helicopter crash outside Los Angeles, our loving hearts and souls never stop loving and remembering how Kobe, his daughter Gianna, and their beloved family friends touched the lives they loved and our humanity. We will never stop missing you all. We will always carry on your legacies through us.

How you Kobe, Gianna, and your beloved family members you traveled with had proudly lived your lives, taught me the lesson, never stop loving and touching the world through our daily lives. The legacy you cemented Kobe and the legacy you cemented Gianna and the legacy of the helicopter passengers you proudly loved, will always illuminate and touch our lives for the rest of time.

Kobe, Gianna, and all who lost their lives in Calabasas, we will never stop remembering how you all touched the lives you had by how you lived and loving the legacies you carried out as you shared your lives with us. Your lives went beyond being inspirational, empowering, motivational, and loving.

Until we all are reunited with you Kobe, Gianna, and your beloved seven family friends in Heaven, we will always live through your souls. Love never expires.

Love your beloved loved ones endlessly and hold them extremely close. You

never know when your last seconds of life will be. Light in death never shuts off.

this song makes me ugly cry every time i listen to it because it just reminds me of how temporary our time here is and how during long days at school and work we wish the time would go by faster but when we realize how little time we have on earth we have to cherish and appreciate every single moment because soon it’ll be gone.
