I like these guys -- I just have to say one thing about the lyrics " I couldn't agree more ". Another great thing about this band is that I can understand every word the singer says. It's a lot more musical if you want a song to sound fast and powerful and still be able to understand the words --- make the music fast and slow down/simplify the lyrics. Don't have fast music with fast lyrics, it sounds like shit LIVE because sound bounces around too much in stadiums and everything sounds jumbled. These guys have the right idea. Plus, you will gain a lot more fans if everyone can understand you. Cheers

Kinda hypocritical song tbh And too absolutist.

That line is particularly silly. Self limiting and an excuse for anything.

Can be violent or murderer, rapist etc.(or support violent behavior) - "Well i am what i am, i will never change. We all die in the end anyway, do whatever you want while you live" type of mentality. Probably extra problematic when coupled with strong distaste for most others.

(i am what i am, which is generally received as i am *who* i am. But the 2 are highly different)

Instead of solidifying yourself in 1 identity and set of beliefs(i am who i am) which inevitably leads to mindlessly defending them and getting angry when you hear something that doesn't gel with them.. or have hypocrisies pointed out. For your own self, at least challenge your beliefs every day and be open to change. Rather than, "I am who i am, i'll never change". Damn right it will "always be this way" when you refuse to change anything significant haha

Being strongly attached to one identity/beliefs leads to strong ego. So even when someone points out for example that you support violence by your actions(you have been unaware of that), something that doesn't actually line up with your current beliefs, people still will defend their actions and attack others who merely are trying to talk to them and point out the reality. Because ego perceives it as a threat, and enter cognitive dissonance. Even the mere existence of others with different beliefs being around you will make you want to attack them etc.

I suppose it is easier to pick an identity and stick to it, often times.

All these lines in the song are a way to relieve responsibility from ones actions. Nothing matters, do *anything* "you" want(nihilistic?). But it's clearly born from some bitterness(understandable). It matters to oneself at least, no ?

Sure, very partially the song i think is somewhat saying everyone is like that(everyone has their beliefs, at least be honest and not fake even if i hate it). But same goes there, people can in fact, change.

We can also say, the song is an expression of particular emotion/feeling at a particular time. Many times it is like that and the artist gets out of their system through a song but they are not like that otherwise. However you get people feeling that way over obsess with the supposed message in the song. Feeding their ego and beliefs they already hold. I suppose that is the commonality, people tend to only look for things that feed their current beliefs rather than challenge them in any way.

Anything that does that, they react badly to without even listening or considering it. As they have pre-set beliefs, meaning, conclusions.

Well, enjoy ramblings if anyone actually reads that wall(if anyone does, they you most likely do enjoy ramblings haha). I think it tends to get less specific and bigger picture quickly. So maybe don't take it all directly aimed at anyone(be it the song or you, or the performers).

In terms of sound, song sounds pretty good to me haha

I feel i should add a little something, i want to give more from the other "side" and not seem like i'm just criticizing the lyrics(to be fair it was more prompted for the small chance of people clinging to these key lines seeing it, try and give a larger perspective) through my subjective biases etc.

There are some other things that can be gleamed from the song as well.

Indeed, in some sense "it is never enough". If you are trying to change the outside while ignoring the inside. Trying to conform the entire world(or at least people around you) to your belief. Whatever you do it will never be enough and conflict will arise(again, song does touch on that but it mentions hate, which is cause from being too invested in your beliefs). It's more so about how you are, what state of being you are in, how you perceive the world and others. With what level of clarity as well. (in shamanism[bear with me] there is something called shamanic vision or hermetic vision>see clearly>act accordingly, without delay)

But indeed, there is a level of "it will always be this way". In terms of how the reality/universe functions. You can find 'hidden' paths and go around a lot of things. But by at large, at a base level, things operate in a particular manner.(bit corporative the mechanics of the universe are[not trying to sound pretentious haha], ha, corporation, corporeal. Funny.)

What i'm trying to say is, there is of course certain level of validity too in what is said in the song. Depends how you perceive it.

Main point remains that it's about oneself. Your insight. Trying to change the external only, will not get you anywhere and it will be a never ending endeavor. Stuck in the mud.

(of course i can see the base appeal of the song too, for people who are in depression or environment where people are assholes to them with their own problems to deal with. Where you can't reason with them and so on. Which can make it hard to see beyond that and it becomes a closed circle of BS. So that is another way it is valid. If this ramble helps anyone to get out of that, that'd be good. Even though it is unlikely haha Too long and rambly. Partially i'm doing this for myself, to practice putting some things into words i suppose. Or i dunno. It's easy to ramble like that haha Suffice to say i am not saying anything new.)
