Fitzgerald, Ella - Walking By The River Lyrics

There's dew upon the ground
And not a soul in sight
I'm walkin' by the river
'Cause I'm meeting someone there tonight

I hear a distant sound
I see a far-off light
I'm walkin' by the river
'Cause I'm meeting someone there tonight

The murmuring waters say
There's no time to delay
So hurry on your way, my friend
If you don't get there soon
There may not be a moon
To guide you to that happy end

My heart is riding high
My blues have taken flight
I'm walkin' by the river
'Cause I'm meeting someone there tonight

My heart is riding high
My blues have taken flight
I'm walkin' by the river
'Cause I'm meeting someone there tonight

Savannah Churchill and the four tunes sang a wonderful version of this song with a great arrangement on RCA

  3. J.... T....

Una Mae Carlisle has a better version. Something rare in the Ella catalogue.

I'm trying to find another version of this song. I'm not sure who sang it, but I believe it was a group from one of the big bands from the 40's...I had the album many years ago and I can't find it anywhere. Thanks in advance.

Ikr? It was Erskine Hawkins. Not sure who the male singer was. We had an old (factory) compilation tape lying around the house, and it was on there. The tape later got thrown out by mistake. I LOVED that version! I love Ella too, and do listen to this version, but I liked the Hawkins version better.
