Fitzgerald, Ella - Sophisticated Lady Lyrics
They say into your early life romance came
And in this heart of yours burned a flame
A flame that flickered one day and died away
Then, with disillusion deep in your eyes
You learned that fools in love soon grow wise
I see you now
Smoking, drinking, never thinking of tomorrow, nonchalant
Diamonds shining, dancing, dining with some man in a restaurant
Is that all you really want?
No, sophisticated lady,
I know, you miss the love you lost long ago
And when nobody is nigh you cry

NICE! Sweet violin solo...and sax...I'm still listening.
Gotta be every singers favorite song to sing. It's great on organ too.
the most difficult bridge ever written. duke ellington''s compositions are not for the faint of heart. ella's ear is GOLDEN!!!!!

As my master has always taught about research: We must look for so we can find. I played this uniqur piece if MASTERPIECE in the 80s when I evolved my studies and play on classic GUITAR from Elizabethan pieces into jazz . I loved ELLA. So I started SINGING LESSONS with Madalena de Paula . Got the best performance of SLADY at that time. And NOW TODAY OUT OF THR BLUES I DISCOVERED THIS HIGHLY ESTIMATED PIECE OF ARTS OF VOICE AND INSTRUMENT PERFORMANCE. THE WHOLE LP PURE MASTERPIECE OF AMERICAN MUSIC ARTS.

you just can't touch this woman's voice - a true jazz singer
Incantevole ❤️
Sublime
Outside of Duke's orchestra w/Harry Carney, this is the ultimate legitimate homage to Ellington's tune--Ella's spontainiously chosen notes, along with those of her compatriot players are a timeless tribute to textbook excellence--Sadly, we'll never see again in the future.
My lady sings my soul
As great as this combo is, the superlative instrument here is Ella's.
unmistakibly ben webster
Un piacere immenso

Stuff Smith. Thank you!
He's just great. He gets much less recognition than Grappelli, but I prefer him.
What a great voice! What a great musician.! Who is on the violin? Could it be Ray Nance? Help anyone!
maybe Joe Venuto ???
Stuff Smith
heard this on the news; it was talking about how mindful music helps dementia patients. such a beautiful tune.

this is my exhibit A for jazz singing
I love Ella, but I definitely think Sarah Vaughan's rendition of this echoes to me more. I come to this recording for Ben's Solo it's beautiful.

Has a better interpretation of "Sophisticated Lady" ever been recorded? Doubtful. This is the First Lady of Song at her smooth, wistful best, in an immaculate arrangement.
Nope. this is IT!
Stuff Smith's superb solo on Violin and Ben Webster's full bodied muscular tone on Sax is the pinnacle of musicianship!
Voice that drain tears from my eyes
this is just a beautiful song...
+Brittany John Beautiful indeed, and a ferociously difficult one, too! The last words, "you cry", are appropriate in more than one way.
wish i could find more songs by her like this. if i close my eyes i can imagine that i'm in heaven right now...
You should be able to find many many slow songs sung by Ella Fitzgerald. Any slow song sung by Billie Holiday or Sarah Vaughan has probably been performed by Ella Fitzgerald. Mood Indigo is a great tune.
Violin: Stuff Smith. Sax: Ben Webster.... and Barney Kessel guitar, Paul Smith piano, Joe Mondragon bass and Alvin Stroller drums; rec. 4 Sept 1956.
Thanks for personnel AC
