Fitzgerald, Ella - Soon Lyrics

Soon, my dear, you'll never be lonely,
Soon, you'll find I live for you only.
When I'm with you who cares what time it is
Or what the place or what the climate is?

Oh! Soon, our little ship will become sailing
Home through every storm, never failing,
The day you're mine this world will be in tune,
Let's make that day come soon.

Oh! Soon, our little ship will become sailing home
Through every storm, never failing,
The day you're mine this world will be in tune,
Let's make that day come soon.

Ella at her peak, but here hampered by mediocre arrangement, muddy recording, and the most intrusive drumming.
This is remastered? Take it back to the lab for another try. For contrast, visit her work on Rodgers & Hart.

  2. B.... ....

Of the two versions of this song Ella recorded, this one is my favorite.

  3. T.... ....

Ella recorded this same song with just piano accompaniment and, at least to my amateur ears, it's a better version, certainly a purer one: no violins, no horns. Google on YouTube . The song is too delicate, I feel, to bear up under an orchestral blast.

    T.... ....

I disagree. I prefer this livelier version. It matches the happy anticipation the song is about.

This swing version is very lively and exciting, no flaw in it

    What key is this?

    Ab major

Apparently there are 2 versions of this song ( a+b ); this remastered b-version skips some of the original lyrics as can be heard in version a; b in all is a shorter version with a different arrangement.

monumentally the best female standard songstress ever.

There are those of us who love Ella but worship Billie Holiday. Not often but sometimes Ella doesn't quite seem to understand the lyric and sometimes, fairly often, she seems content to drift through the melody.

@TedWms521 Ella just does not have that level of deep sadness, but I do not see this as a flaw. Her ballad interpretations are fantastic with her gentleness, sweetness and sincerity. It is a different, but equally valid and beautiful way of singing these songs, and it touches and moves me with the life and pure loveliness that she injects in every songs, beautiful. I love her version of But Not For Me for the Gershwin song and Nelson Riddle's brilliant arrangement has all the aspects of her style that I just described. The result is a perfect recording.

@Matheus Bezerra de Lima I would disagree only that her style is equally valid. She is a wonderful singer and on many songs her interpretation is unmatched, but sometimes she avoids the sadness of the lyric and this is too great a loss to equate her version with others which are truer to the song's meaning and
therefore to the experience they describe.
