There has NEVER been a vocalist before or since.

This old fat guy met Ella after a concert in 1974 at age 14. She was all smiles and very friendly. My father had seen her in 1949 at a Jazz At The Philharmonic concert. I was lucky to be born early enough to actually get to see and meet a few of the classic Jazz artists.

That's why I wont go to New York anymore, because I wont see this first Lady of Jazz and any others! They are all dead. My daugther ask me to go to New York, but I question her: "All my idols are dead!"

You were lucky indeed. Us younger folks are grateful we live in an era where they left recordings, at least. Please do support the jazz artists still out there.

The pianist was Paul Smith. I was only familiar with the Willie Nelson version of this song before I heard this slow burning version. Beautiful rendition of a classic Kurt Weill song.
