Fishbone - Sunless Saturday Lyrics
I see the pestilence outside my window
I see the dung heaps piled at least a mile high
I see the shards of shattered dreams in the street
I face the morning with my customary sigh
A stumbling wino has attracted quite a crowd
My breakfast finished now I brave the outside
But clouds have hidden all the warmth inside
Chase these clouds away
I hate this sunless Saturday
Freedom come
For us now
Light our sky
Perhaps the charcoal grey and brown around me
Is just the mirror image of tainted soul
I think the sun will never visit my sky
Until the truth is seen by each and every eye
I see the helpless and I see the insane
I see a pauper singing in the pouring rain
I see the means of help elude us again
I think the sun will never visit me again

For all of you that love this band...check out Kings X
This is clearly how it’s done right, folks🔥
I love how the final acoustic section is like a more upbeat version of the intro acoustic part.... you know, like the sun has finally risen and all that. Amazing fucking songwriting all over this thing
I remember them from the last action hero soundtrack and then now, how could I not have been listening to them! there so much fun like faith no more!
50times better than RHCP( with HN it was fantastic though)
One of my favorite bands ever. They never got their due. Those of us who knew, knew. I wish there had been more. But maybe that would have ruined things.
Musically, the perfect overlap of in-your-face rock, shake-it-til-ya-break-it funk, and the exact amount of ska to make it effective without pigeonholing them. All done with SOUL. ALWAYS with soul.
Lyricism that spanned from a modern day psalmist calling out from the broken (but still hopeful) heart of humanity that tomorrow will be better, to being the unflinching witness on the stand who will not be denied the opportunity to irrefutably call out the bull$%×+ tactics used to institutionally manipulate the masses against each other and keep us all in our socio-economic ranks.
Nothing and no one else like them. Truth and Soul.
The best metal bands of black members, like Living Colour or Bad Brains, wonderful bands of all time...
This was the first Fishbone song i herd, not long after it's release, changed my shit.
Saw them a few times as a white teen skater. Fucking never left me.
this song is the gap between the 80s and 90s
@1:52 making Pete Townsend proud
The SNL performance of this is my favorite
Angelo doing that jump kick at the beginning, let us know they were going to set it off on SNL.
Having trouble finding the SNL video now for some reason
@emsafeman It used to be on YouTube. Now if you want to see it, you'll have to go to DailyMotion.
Damn this is good
I saw some dudes arguing in the comment section about where mike patton got his style and this diva kiedis accusing him of stealing his style , i believe this where mike patton and faith no more got their funk metal sound, and as far as kiedis claiming that he was the one being copied, look at this band this song is better than any song kiedis sang
Banda muito boa o vocal bom pra caramba 👍👍👍👍👍👍
I remember Fishbone was huge but in underground music in LA 80s as big as Jane’s or RHCP. I always thought fishbone was the one that would be commercially bigger but I was dead wrong.
This song is an all time classic.
Amazing band
Back in high school in 1993 NOTHING else was this positive, righteous, and badass!
FISH u gave me strenght so many Times While i was young...5ku
Damn! So much going on in this song! I forgot how good this was. And now that im older i can truly feel this shit!!!!
Fishbone for Hall of Fame 👍
I urge anyone to find a better song to wake up too....
These guys are among the greatest
The music has a YYZ quality to it not quite as big but definitely every bit of that rocking possibly more scientifically speaking these guys rock Pure Energy from every band member all at once boom
I am mexican i hate the black people but i like this song :D
I can’t be the only one who cries at the end of the song... like a little bitch 😭😭😭🤣😭 the 4:02 mark
As amazing today as when it came out. Killer production, killer song.
Memories of 1991!!!
xoxo The Clarences
A great band!
This album was one of those "headphone albums" for me. Plug in, tune everything else out and let this one soak in. Man, they were at the peak of their powers here! Such a great point in time for music. Living Colour, 24-7 Spyz, Follow for Now and the mighty Fishbone. What great memories.
I've been trying to get into Fishbone since I found out that they were the horn players on Avenged Sevenfold's Sunny Disposition. I don't know if it gave me the wrong impression because I loved the groovy metal sound with the horns over the top.
So far I've either found heavy stuff or funky stuff with horns. Are there any songs with the horns playing over the heavier stuff? Because I think thats what I really wanna find
This is absolute GOLD..bought "the reality of my surroundings" after seeing this video on MTV !! And heey the rest of the album does not really suck!! Fishbone should have been massive ok!!😁😁💗
I see the pestilence
Outside my window
I see the dung heaps
Piled at least a mile high
I see the shards of shattered dreams
In the street
I face the morning
With my customary sigh
I hear the sounds
Of children laughing aloud
A stumbling wino
Has attracted quite a crowd
My breakfast finished
Now i brave the outside
But all the clouds have hidden
All the warmth inside
Chase these clouds away
I hate this sunless Saturday
Chase these clouds away
I hate this Sunless Saturday
Freedom come
For us now
Light our sky
Burn away these clouds
Perhaps the charcoal grey
And brown around me
Is just the mirror image
Of my tainted soul
I think the sun will never visit my sky
Until the truth is seen
By each and every eye
Chase these clouds away
I hate this Sunless Saturday
Freedom come
For us now
Light our sky
Burn away these clouds
I see the helpless
And i see the insane
I see a pauper
Singing in the pouring rain
I see the means of help
Elude us again
I think the sun
Will never visit me again
Chase these clouds aways
I hate this Sunless Saturday
Incredibly talented
This music video is A Spike Lee Joint, if you didn’t know, now you know
YOU CAN HEAR THE BASS!!!!! YEAH!
1:20 PIECE OF MIND
This song is not political; it's not racial. The reason this song is great is that it's about depression, plain and simple. We can be depressed for different reasons, but it's part of the universal human condition.

3.5k royalty!!
Look, I am a fatass metalhead from Finland and pretty much only listen to stuff like Slayer and Judas Priest. But this band kicks ass! Originally a high-energy funk band (I believe?), turned heavier and even weirder (if that’s possible?) in the early 90s. Tracks like Swim and Servitude are all metal, while they still retained their funkiness and brilliant, weird humour. What we need in music is more bands that break musical - and cultural - boundaries. Great music is great music no matter what!
If you like bands that do different styles try Mr Bungle. Or incubus first album "fungus amongus"
Jay 88 Mr Bungle is one of my favourites along John Zorn’s Naked City! Mr Bungle is unique, I doubt anyone else could come up with what they did back in the 90s! Incubus I am not familiar with, I need to check them out. Thanks!
They were gods on that stage. Never thrashed so hard in my life. They're still amazing.
ahhh...takes me back where everyone was chill with each other...
Longevity is The Musical Black Man's Oscar in rock&roll.

Best Live Band ....!
Classic , and highly underated . These guys were seriously skilled and tight musicians , they had a positive message and intense energy. Even now what ever projects they are working on i wish these musicians the best and thx for years of great work.
Fishbone > RHCP

A few months ago I got the honor to play a show with these guys, really fucking great band <3
I LOVE you forever❣️From Japan
Reminds me of Iron Maiden's Trooper...
So this is where faith no more got their style , both bands didnt get the credit they deserve , it was always about stadium mainstream bands back then good thing we have the internet to tell my kids what to listen it doesnt always have to be the hottest band of the famous bands
This blew me away, still does
thanks for this list man. I havent heard Fishbone "Sunless Saturday" since I was a teen always loved that song and it still gets me psyched.

Love this song. Love the energy these guys put out and their musical knowledge. That little homage to the Beatles at the end was perfect. These guys should have been bigger. The black community at the time completely ignored them. Hopefully they'll get the love and respect they deserve in years to come. Long Live Fishbone!
It just keeps getting better with age.
27 years later .... still relevant .... still the bomb!!
I h8 you VEVO. You wasted so much of my time
This lineup was perfect. Chris Dowd and Kendall Jones added so much.
OMG amazing track, first time listening in decades. Memories!!
A Spike Lee joint.
Still love Fishbone
Saw the singer (forgot his name) perform live in Paris as part of the touring band on "Celebrating Bowie Tour". He was phenomenal! I knew of them (Fishbone) but not so much aware of their music! I want to go back to their stuff and listen to it properly now! It's such a shame that have never got the recognition they deserved, possibly because as an all black male rock/punk band, label/record comapnies probably didn't know how to market/label them! In addition to not receiving enough airplay! Infuriating when you see the number of artists who serve nothing but crap and continue to be played ad-nauseam on radios!
Fishbone gives me goosebumps.
So powerful. The title. The lyrics. That opening scene, with a child in a cage. .....its just like Angelo. To create something so beautiful and profound. Out of tragedy. ❤
I've played this song on the drums, and all I have to say is that it is intense with the bass drum/pedal and that you are crisscrossing your arms like a maniac with the hi-hat and snare followed by just hitting all the tom-toms and the floor tom with improvisation any way you want it. It may sound like he's using double bass, but he's actually doing it with only one pedal, and you have to hammer that sucker as if you are shaking your leg to get sand out of your pants. The Van Halen tapping solo was insane that it sends goosebumps all around every time I hear it. I'm shocked that the video doesn't have at least a seven figure amount of views! The tune not only makes you want to bang your head, but it gets you going, makes your heart race, and makes you move, the singer showed it by break-dancing in a straightjacket, hanging onto the cage fence, and seven guys playing by just going crazy, having a good time, and smiling while cooped up in a cage.
Thank you "Beer and Board Games" for introducing me to Fishbone!
Didn't Spike Lee direct this music video? Crazy killer band.
I'm a fairly young white guy from the south and your in for a treat if you like rock from 80s 90s these guy kickass
great band..they are each tremendous musicians and not only pull off a high energy show but sound is studio quality live..one of my favorite 90's albums with top notch engineering
Fishbone is the of band isn't going to be hemmed in by racial lines. Those lines just disappear when you listen to Fishbone. They appeal to everybody. A truly unique band!
They are a unique band. And because of that, sadly, they don't appeal to everybody.
Бий Ворогів!
if ever there was a band that should've made a zillion dollars and been huge.
Maybe their label didn't know how to sell them, and they didn't care to be sold.
They were poorly promoted by their label. And the fact they didn't follow-up their reality of my surroundings album didn't help.
@Daniel Eyre Well, technically they did, but it was with a Grunge album that didn't work, so I guess you are technically right, after all.
no jew connection. requisite in L.A.
You are correct. They should’ve been huge. At the time the label had the opportunity to back and promote a highly talented all Black California Rock band. Or, an up and coming all White California Funk/Rock band. They went with the all White band, better known as The Red Hot Chili Peppers.
