Fishbone - Servitude Lyrics

Who, Who do you serve?
For whose empire and for whose whims?
Is your honor judged by men?
Will you lie?
Will you lie if they say it's their will?
Will you die or continue to kill?
Until the generals all ahve their fill

Craven Cowards
Armchair Warriors
You will serve Them well

What, what will you write?
For whose pleasure, for whose delight?
Will your readers see your light?
Will you say...That the singer can't blow you away?
That we hate people just 'cause they're gay
Women and children all stay away

To whom, whom do you pray?
Do dollars wash your sins away?
Does God love cold hard cash?
Do you say...If we all just continue to pay
All our ailments will go away
And our souls will be saved

God's not with you
"Holy Roller"
Your heart dwells in Hell

Why, Why do you run?
Our awareness has spoiled your fun
Our eyes see you too clear
Will you hide
From the joy of expressing our pride
For the leaders and people who've died
While combating your genocide

Chains are breaking
Minds are waking
Soon we'll serve no more...

    great song

  2. C.... W....

One of my favorite bands ever. They never got their due. Those of us who knew, knew. I wish there had been more. But maybe that would have ruined things.

Musically, the perfect overlap of in-your-face rock, shake-it-til-ya-break-it funk, and the exact amount of ska to make it effective without pigeonholing them. All done with SOUL. ALWAYS with soul.

Lyricism that spanned from a modern day psalmist calling out from the broken (but still hopeful) heart of humanity that tomorrow will be better, to being the unflinching witness on the stand who will not be denied the opportunity to irrefutably call out the bull$%×+ tactics used to institutionally manipulate the masses against each other and keep us all in our socio-economic ranks.

Nothing and no one else like them. Truth and Soul.

Cuando Lolapalloza era un Festival de Rock Alternativo en 1993. Hoy es una Basura Comercial que perdio toda identidad. Grande Fishbone en ese Año nos dejo un Disco excelente como es el Monkey Brain!.

  20. D.... t....

Seen them many times over the last 25 years, always a spiritual f**king show!

  21. P.... ....

I wonder how many people know that this song has a Christian message, because it was written by Kendall Jones who was under the influence of his devout Christian father at this time and left the band shortly after the album release.

  22. G.... ....

    Insane!!!!

  23. C.... C....

    BOOMTOWN 2018!!!!

  24. m.... b....

  25. j.... I....

Sounds like it could be system of a down song.

  26. k.... q....

it isn't hyperbole when you say "Fishbone is the most underrated band of all
time" all formed while in Crenshaw High School, and close to my favorite band Primus, and Norewood Fisher is one of the best bass players to come out of
that time (starting in the early 80's and getting a very fucked up record deal in
the mid to late 80's) around the same time as other favorites Primus and Mr.
Bungle who all three having a unique sound with uniquely talented players, especially bassiest , Norwood Fisher Les Claypool and Trevor Dunn. Its Great that to this day Fishbone And Primus still have shows together not to mention the
20 min jam together that ishbone put out n the late 90s or early 2000s. Both do have much in common, and not just musically as both never got any love from
mtv or radio stations, both coming to terms and making their own styles, l
never faking the funk or selling out . But Fishbone got screwed over the worst
outta those cali prog funk bands, they had it hard starting out as they lived in the gang filled crenshaw area , and where abused by about every record deal
they've had, so much so a documentary on this was made and i highly recommend it as a fan of good music and how record labels manipulate talent. I've
seen posts claiming Dillinger Escape plan as well as Queen and others as the most
underrated band which is hyperbolic bull shit, while honestly Fishbone is at
the very least one of the most underrated bands if not the most in everway.
So watch the Doc made about em and listen and support fishbone by buying
albums and concert tickets, they where on tour wit Primus just this year, and
im hoping they start t up again stateside and come down to at least orlando Fl.
i'm just lucky when i was in rst grade my cousin who was in middle school who lived with us in the early 90's as i was 5 in 1990, but she made a mix tape with
primus and fishbone and others and those have been my favorites since,
    FISHBONE SOLDIER 4 LIFE!!!!!!

  27. D.... 2....

One of the greatest rock tunes ever written

  28. E.... P....

Such an underrated album. Top 5 all time, so textured yet melodic and heavy. Their message is needed in these times too

  29. S.... ....

This sounds like something people would call original if it came out today.

    God damn this is good.

  30. C.... D....

    Has Fishbone gone “Metal”?

    C.... D....

they do everything. this song rocks!

    C.... D....

The are of funk metal and alternative rock

  31. B.... S....

why is everyone talking about the chilichokers

  32. J.... M....

Take note people. They're wailing out some prophetic words we should have gave more credence to. Chains are breaking, minds are waking...

  33. P.... N....

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the filming of this video - July 13, 1993. The outdoor shots are from their Lollapalooza set at Waterloo Village in NJ and the club footage is from the Limelight in NYC later that night.

    P.... N....

Such an amazingly powerful song. Must be cranked to 11.

  41. B.... d....

Had the pleasure of seeing them live in Holland a few times in the early 90s. Nothing better than these guys!

  42. C.... J....

They are the most talented musicians ever. So many genres covered. All the messages different. Fishbone wrote the soundtrack of life.

  43. S.... S....

Song always gives me goosebumps. So powerful.

  44. N.... O....

    Ooooh Yyyeeaa

  45. D.... J....

Lollapalooza 1993. These guys were sick as fuck. Angelo is one of the coolest musicians I have ever met. Long live the Bone!

    D.... J....

Man Fishbone has no boundaries. I saw them at Lolapalooza 93 in South Florida. Kendall needs to come back

    D.... J....

I've seen Fishbone about a dozen times, including Lollapalooza '93. Definitely one the greatest live bands of all time!

  46. K.... ....

    sickest drum sound ever

  47. c.... m....

Can't begin to explain how much I appreciate Fishbone's music, being part of my life through the years. Many memories made.

  48. M.... ....

Love this song...one of their best ever.

  49. Z.... J....

They just got a bit too "poppy" at a certain point.

  50. n.... ....

I'm 19 right now. If any one knows of a party THIS crazy and huge whit such a SICK fucking band lemme know.
I just discovered this band and came to this song from 2 of their earlier ska-ish records. I'm blown away. Musical progression is real with these motherfuckers.

  51. c.... h....

cuz Walt called fish a stupid nigga for telling"all these white mother fuckers to get outta here" backstage after a show when everyone was kickin it 93 or so in oc MD.

  52. c.... h....

well when your fan base is white and you don't like white people ....these guys aside from Walt and the old new drummer john can suck a nut.

  53. W.... ....

screw stereo types i dont give of.... music is music. No color just plain raw ,thats the best from fishbone

  54. D.... L....

    I still love this

  55. P.... E....

    A PURE BLACK MAN THING!!!

  56. P.... E....

YES Fishbone was just too deep for that pussy punk ska. They were pure consciousness. Reggae awareness style AND could deliver in any style of music.

  57. P.... E....

Fishbone is red hot FOREVER, baby!!! 930 club 198something I think 3 or 4. Shit I cant remember. but I know I smoked a joint with them between sets. They came out and saw me and asked where to score and I was already steady, eddy. I love these brothers.

  58. D.... 2....

Timeless classic and one of best rock songs ever

  59. S.... A....

What an awesome, dope, Super band!

  60. F.... S....

Fuck I miss the 90's man!

  61. C.... F....

We are stoked to have Fish Bone playing Ocean Aid Hawaii April 30 2017 These guys ROCK !!

  62. J.... Y....

I saw these guys during the Chiii Peppers Uplift Mofo Party Plan tour. It was Fishbone, Thrlonius Monster, and the Chili Pepperd and the Peppers were great but Fishbone was better. One of the most dynamic, energetic , crazy, and heartfelt shows I've ever seem Amazing band. For their lack of success, I think they were eclectic in their sound and I think that hurt them. Heavy metal like this one, reggae punk the next song, total pure ska the next. That and the energy of the live shows never felt translated onto the records.

  63. F.... Z....

Absolutely crushing it. The guitar note at 3:40 gives me goosebumps every time. He pulls that feedback and works it like a pro.

  64. H.... L....

2017 and still kicking out !!!! great band !! one the best metal songs ever !!

    H.... L....

    Héctor López not metal duh

    H.... L....

@Brian Stevenson. This song is very Metal

  65. T.... G....

vote for me!!! Ill put beer in the water fountains and cameras in the girls bathroom!!!!

  66. G.... M....

    Sunny Disposition brought me here

  67. l.... ....

It occurs to me that with bands relying more on live shows rather than CD sales these days, Fishbone would probably have been the biggest band in the world if they were of this generation.

    l.... ....

They probably would. Also, it would be pretty dope if they did a tour with Living Colour

    l.... ....

That's where liberalism will get you!!

  68. b.... ....

The most criminally underrated band ever, with the possible exception of The Pogues.

    b.... ....

    bigmarty11288 and *King's X*

    b.... ....

    And 24/7 Spyz

  69. a.... t....

Happy 51st.Birthday Angelo cheers!!!!!!! I Love U Bro.

  70. N.... ....

This is my first time hearing this, and all I can say is I'm glad I did it. I'm fucking blown away.

    N.... ....

    Same here

    N.... ....

    Time WARP ?

    N.... ....

I know! So technical and underrated!

  71. F.... B....

I think there is Zack de la Rocha from Rage Against the Machine in that video at 0:59, although I'm not completely sure (didn't find anything on the internet).

  72. m.... ....

Every track from those days just shows you how incredible a drummer Fish really is. I would love to hear some of the original recordings without the studio processing used on drums during that time.

  73. E.... M....

    rocky n rolly

  74. g.... ....

    very underrated tune.

despite the really cheezy fade-out ending.

  75. J.... ....

    Forever bonein out

  76. C.... ....

Saw them playing this stuff at Lolapalooza 1 in Dallas, un-fuckin-believable

    C.... ....

Saw them Lollapalooza 3 and Rage Against The Machine couldn't hold a candle to their energy ...

    C.... ....

+Christopher Blosser Saw them on that Lollapalooza as well. They crushed it

  77. S.... R....

    I had a BONER in 2:38

  78. L.... B....

    Thanks!

  79. J.... M....

    they gave more than offered...
over looked, they where centuries away of "the curve"!!!

  80. A.... ....

They will always have a place in my collection.

  81. a.... m....

Amazing Band. Clever lyrics and unpredictable.

  82. d.... ....

    Never gets old...

  83. S.... H....

FISHBONE deserves a place BEFORE the Red Hot Chili Peppers! After all, if it weren't for this band, there might not be a Red HOt Chili Peppers.... Think about it (for those who know and remember the origins of both of these bands).

    S.... H....

GOOD CROSSOVER , SOMEHOW DIFFERENT TO THE RED HOT , DO YOUY LIKE BAD BRAINS???? A LOT OF THE 80'S BAND HAD A DIFFERENT STILE, LIVING COLOURS, SCATTERBRAIN, CROMAGS , THESE ARE AN EXAMPLE OF SPECIFICITY DIFFERENCE OF THE CROSSOVER STUFF

  84. K.... ....

John Petrucci's Inspiration for his song "Jaws"

  85. s.... ....

what idiot did not like this?

  86. H.... A....

Did these guys have any more songs of this nature? Like harder, more Grungy? They played a bunch of different styles, but havent seen another song like this

    H.... A....

End The Reign. Sunless Saturday is a headbanger too

  87. m.... ....

Idk but I like the cut of "old school" bands like this. They built as a ska band but weren't afraid to experiment with other genres and they killed it every single time. Kept it fresh. Kept it original. Most bands are kinda pussies now when it comes to variety. They're pressured by their labels and fans to keep a strict regiment on their sound. This was back when music was allowed to be fun, crazy, and free.

    m.... ....

    Well delivered my dude
Either way you put it “Sevitude “ has to be the heaviest 🐠 bone cuts I’ve ever ever heard..
    (IMO). 🎺🤟🏽

  88. M.... C....

This band deserved to blow up. But u can't market something that is so original. Original line up best live band ever

  89. M.... C....

If life was like a fishbone mosh pit. The world would be a better place with all races enjoying life together

  90. T.... ....

It kinda sounds like System of a Down.

    T.... ....

+Tsuss You just inverted it. SOAD (and many others) owes a lot to Fishbone. And Fishbone know they owe a lot from Funkadelic, Kurt Weil und (intended) Betolt Brecht.

  91. t.... 4....

i remember seeing these brothers on the lollapalooza tour when it came to baytown, tx.  i remember fish getting from behind the drum kit to confront whoever threw the mud at them. great fucking show guys one of the best...

  92. I.... ....

i stayed awake for hours on end watching headbangers ball followed by alternation w/kennedy.going through the sewer pipes ending up in some basement with the pyramid in the heading(beginning segment) One night after seeing some in between mtv commercial of a restless guy in bed turn into a giant cockroach...this vid appeared (:0 shocking amazement

  93. K.... Y....

The chili peppers said they could not understand how Fishbone, a band that came out from the beginning with incredible rhythm and melody, were not celebrated as much or more than them. The chili peppers were allowed to grow into a band. Fishbone were a BAND from the very start.

    K.... Y....

Flea has always said he learned bass from Norwood, and considering how much of a bad ass Flea is on bass, that's saying a lot!

    K.... Y....

RHCP are fuckwitts, what they did to Mike Patton was eye opening. All jealousy.

    K.... Y....

@Freudian Slippers I guess you could say it was a Midlife Crisis

    K.... Y....

@Freudian Slippers Faith No More is the best man, I like the sound of RHCP but Anthony's voice bugged me.

  94. p.... ....

"Why do you run? Our awareness has spoiled your fun". Yes
