4:32 Franz Ferdinand kicks in.

I just love how, the song totally steers off course every minute (or less!) I wonder if they wrote it "exquisite corpse" style, or if that did have to actually collaborate closely to make it so disjointed?? You get a new sound at: :44, 1:07, 1:52, 3:08, 3:48, 4:32, 5:32, and 6:19. Fun times.

Classical Sparks ways of making music. One extreme example is the song 'My baby's taking me home' where the title phrase is repeated, exept for a spoken passage. But rhythm and emphasis changes slightly. A little less repetative is 'Brenda's always in the way', humorous lyrics, should be LISTENED to, not as muzak.

I should play this next time any teacher says to split into groups..

Well, Sarcasm is really just another word for a more complex form of irony. Like 'hipster'.

Just to give out my two cents on this discussion, the reason I prefer to use "irony" is because this song is written by a collaboration. So, I don't need to go deep on it. You guys can use all the synonyms from thesaurus whatever you want and doesn't matter how you use them as long as you stick to the context of the definition.

This is BY FAR the best song on this album. Please, please don't continue with this Franz Ferdinand! I have been a big fan since your first album and have liked so far all your work. But this,.. It feels as if my band got corrupted by something evil, something like justin bierber... ugh... I can't believe I'm typing this. Please come back, please find your roots. Give us more Jacqueline, Michael, Ulysees, No you Girls, Do you want to, etc. I'm really sorry, but this song is most Franz Ferdinand of the whole album, and it still is not Franz Ferdinand.

+Amayii Excuse me??  That music sure as fuck doesn't sound like Justin Beiber or Taylor Swift.  If anything, the album seemed too intelligent/mature/ironic for an American label & audience to snap up.  I can only imagine how much they still wanted to fight against brands like Coldplay & Muse - along with the "girl power" movement.

+Jean O'Boyle Yeah, I'm afraid I have to admit I might have been slightly intoxicated when I made my earlier comment. I do agree that it is very nice that they experiment and try something new, it is probably the only way to stay relevant and also sane when playing in a band for soo long. Still, I have liked their previous experiments much more than this time. So I do hope that they return to their roots at some point :)

+Sierox Plenty has to be wrong.  Franz seems to have so much going on that they won't tell the public.  I'm still unhappy about what might have been if they'd played even better with others in the entertainment world.  Alex will definitely never be a Mick Jagger - drugs or no - but he doesn't seem to care, even if Franz must be blacklisted so hard in the US & UK.

This FFS album is much more S than FF.

the thing with sparks. they may get up one morning and say fuck this. and go of in a different tangent to enother progect. there always changing and experementing. to them. ff. is just an exsperemant.

they have fucked this track right up. brill. melodic start. shit brige. and brill ending. i love sparks for there big melodic sound. as ff. just wish they keep it short and sweet. without all that crap in the middle. ff.and sparks are a collaboration. looking forwood for more.

Absolutely brilliant! At first such variance of styles sounded daringly disjointed. Now I get it. A genius fiddling with the most awesome musicians of our time. Loved Queen and anything that surpasses their legacy glorifies the magic of music.

This FFS stuff is getting better and better, Easily the best of the songs released so far, though I doubt it'll crack the top 10, alas. - As a long time fan of both groups, getting really excited about the album. Definitely sounds like each is challenging the other to bring their A-game.

Alex Kapranos and Franz are absolutely brilliant masterminds. And this idea is wicked fresh and innovative. Interesting how older musicians are putting out more innovative stuff than most pop starts out there. Albeit, Christine and the Queens.

It's stunning how the combination of both groups sounds so fresh and yet sounds exactly like songs from both groups separately.  There's no "Sparks sound" and "Franz sound," it's not even perfectly blended; it's like both universes exist simultaneously in the same space.  This is Schrodinger's ballad.

This is great.  A most happy collaboration which shows both bands off well, working as one. Nice Satie-esque finish. I've a feeling this is going to be a great album...

The part that starts at 4.36 really sounds like The Kinks. Especially when Alex sings "I ain't no collaborator".

A nice piece of cabaret-style art, good to perform on stage in a musical theatre, but unfortunately this won't work in the disco nor in a rock radio programme. Much too complexe in its musical settings for that. However, it could be a nice piece of musical art when they perform it live on stage

@kadewi052 They will happily play Bohemian Rhapsody...why did radio have to give way to repetitive beats, and non-songs? This should be heard on all radio programmes, but oh no...it might cause people to think, drop tools at work and discover there is another life out there. Music like this should be heard everywhere, not compartmentalised in one particular setting. Genre is the enemy of music.

@PrizewinnersPaws However it's also a fact that musical artists are compartimentalizing themselves. I can observe a growing discrepancy between artists' studio album songs and the songs they are currently performing live (including their hit singles). This is a typical studio album song, but it won't be a hit single. I believe a lot more in Piss Off and Johnny Delusional as hit singles played on popular radio programmes. We know the musically rich repertoire of Sparks, they have made several similar album songs in this theatrical cabaret-style like they are doing now with "Collaborations". But these haven't become popular hits, nor will this one. By the way, also groups like Sparks FFS need some popular radio hits (music that you can dance to, and sing with) as an introduction to their studio album, as a teaser to make people buy the album and listen to the musical artwork of all the records. Best greetings from Belgium.

"Piss Off" might have been that single...but for the title it would have the lot. A great sing-along tune for all ages!
