Ferry, Bryan - She's Leaving Home Lyrics

Wednesday morning at five o'clock
As the day begins
Silently closing her bedroom door
Leaving the note that she hoped would say no more
She goes downstairs to the kitchen
Clutching her handkerchief
Quietly turning the back door key
Stepping outside she is free
She (we gave her most of our lives)
Is leaving (sacrificed most of our lives)
Home (we gave her everything money could buy)
She's leaving home after living alone for so many years
Father snores as his wife gets into her dressing gown
Picks up the letter that's lying there
Standing alone at the top of the stairs
She breaks down and cries to her husband
Daddy our baby's gone
Why would she treat us so thoughtlessly
How could she do this to me
She (we never thought of ourselves)
Is leaving (never a thought for ourselves)
Home (we struggled hard all our lives to get by)
She's leaving home after living alone for so many years
Friday morning at nine o'clock she is far away
Waiting to keep the appointment she made
Meeting a man from the motor trade
She (what did we do that was wrong)
Is having (we didn't know it was wrong)
Fun (fun is the thing money can't buy)
Something inside that was always denied for so many years (bye bye)
She's leaving home (bye bye)

Ferry, Bryan She's Leaving Home Comments
  1. M.... M....

A must is his album another time another place. From 70s

  2. S.... G....

I bet the Beatles approved of this version

  3. R.... W....

The wonderful production values on this beautiful cover really show just what a masterpiece this is, I dont think the Beatles wrote anything more beautiful as this, perhaps Elanor Rigby and Fool on the Hill, Brian's voice is perfect for this, I also bought the LP cheap in a sale,

  4. c.... ....

    Even worse than Jealous guy

  5. D.... D....

I've just bought this album (All This And World War ll) on vinyl for £3! I couldn't believe it - love this version from Bryan ❤️

  6. P.... T....

Wonderful double-album - my Christmas present for Christmas 1976. Masterful and inventive arranging. (And, of course, performance).

  7. k.... 5....

Ferry always owns his cover songs...he's able to create the Ferry persona within others material

  8. b.... ....

    It is simply wonderful

  9. W.... ....

Great, don't know why I expected it to be better than the original.

  10. I.... W....

Is there a better cover to this song - I don't thinks so ! Bryan Ferry nailed in his usual unique way !

  11. a.... ....

Genius! Better than the original, thanks

    a.... ....

You've got to be taking the piss 😂😂

  12. R.... W....

I fell in love with this wonderful version instantly, his voice fits this so well it truly is a revelation

  13. t.... ....

Also covered by Nilsson (on his 1st album, 1967) and the amazing 5 octave vocalist Annie Haslam on her 2001 live album "One Enchanted Evening". I put those, this one and the original in my Haslam "OEE" playlist. Thanks for uploading - I think this is very hard to find now!

  14. S.... L....

Very good retake of this song by the master of all singers hence the first comment what do u know

  15. R.... d....

it was b side of tokyo joe,got the original single

  16. I.... W....

A first for me , really good !

  17. c.... h....

I also bought the Tokyo Joe single 30 years ago to get this (it was released in '77). Brilliantly poised, perfect annunciation

    c.... h....

it's enunciation but annunciation would have interesting metaphoric implications

  18. g.... b....

Brilliant version from mr ferry. Think this was b-side of 'tokyo joe' in the uk anyway. Thanx 4 postin.

  19. g.... ....

thanks for posting this B side, have missed it a lot, think it was on the flip side of the single 45 rpm vinyl of hard rain's gonna fall in the late 70s

  20. i.... ....

This tune brings me back memories!

  21. .... ....

Didn't know this one yet, thank you for posting.

  22. b.... g....

Bryan Ferry, that offbeat, detached way..

  23. N.... ....

Well you have the Bryan Ferry like sentiment, but not the lyrical quality.

  24. G.... S....

BF always lends a touch of class to his covers and his versions of Beatles songs are no exception to this rule - this is probably the best Lennon/McCartney song he's done - never heard it until now

    Thanks for sharing!

    G.... S....

Its beautiful, but I think my favorite is his elegant interpretation of "Its Only Love".

  25. g.... ....

Backing sounds more like Robin Gibb? Seeing how The Bee Gees performed three songs on here, it's not out of the question?! Love Bryan's stuff! Other remakes to check out that are my personal favs are "Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow", "Crazy Love", "I Put A Spell on You", "All Along the Watchtower", "This Love" and "Make You Feel My Love"(Billy Joel's rendition of this song is pretty awesome too!)

    g.... ....

Very well spotted, they are on the album a lot, I would not be suprised IF they had a big hand in this little masterpiece, thank you

  26. D.... Z....

Hmmm, nothing special at all. Nice try but sorry no prize.

  27. Q.... ....

wow! great version by Bryan. I love his voice in this tune ... he has a midas touch :-)
