Fates Warning - Anarchy Divine Lyrics

Enter, young man
Welcome
Cast your dreams, I'll show you what to feel
Walk but keep the road I've paved
Know of nothing else
I, the one to guide your mind
I breed in stealth

I'm your master, soon you'll see
Shape your world what you'll be
Follow me
Or choose to bleed
Read my book, memorize
Disregard your mind
You may see only through my eyes

Save me someone's come to change me
Mislead, delusions color real
Black and white, they'll never paint me
Never see until you feel

I will keep my own time
What's yours is really mine
I won't let you swallow me
Your doctrines will not shine
Rebellion is your pestilence
I'll never be confined
Forever you shall yield to me
ANARCHY DIVINE

Save me someone's come to change me
Mislead, delusions color real
Black and white, they'll never paint me
Never see until you feel

This was such an ambitious record. I don't think you can really appreciate it without listening to it front to back in one sitting. I still look at this as the crossroads of progressive metal. In the end this style got abandoned for a more accessible sound due to where Queensryche ended up going, and the rise of Dream Theater. Fates ended up taking much the same turn. I really wonder where this could have gone if it had gained more success. I still wonder if some day there will be bands that pick this up from where they left off. Don't get me wrong- I'm not saying anything was bad about where progressive metal went- it just went in a different direction than I thought it would at the time.

    g.... ....

Man it would have been great to get more records like this. That's for sure.

  42. M.... G....

The whole album is unreal...I used to blow speakers with it.

  43. T.... H....

Ridiculously heavy. A moment in time. They would never be this way again. Enjoy!

  44. N.... ....

Ray Alder is a fantastic metal singer. Up there with the greats (Geoff Tate, Rob Halford, Bruce Dickinson, Ronnie Dio...many others I can't think of now). Actually, I am more of a John Arch fan. I know most people prefer Alder, and think Arch has a weird nasally voice. I beg to differ though, John Arch has such control of his vocal range it's amazing. His vibrato is special too. I heard Ray Alder era Fates way before I was introduced to the first 3 albums. A friend let me borrow 'Awaken The Guardian' and said "dude, you MUST listen to this. This has their first singer and he is amazing"
That album stayed in my car cd player for weeks. I had a new favorite vocalist/lyricist. I just couldn't get enough of it. Every single song on that album is awesome. Then a month or so later, I picked up Spectre Within, and AGAIN was blown away.
Edit: Also, I'm from San Antonio (where Ray Alder is from). The friend who lent me Guardian actually met Ray Alder when he landed the Fates gig. He had a buddy back in the 80's who was in a fairly popular local metal band, and he knew Ray Alder. When Alder found out he was going to be the permanent singer for Fates Warning, a party was thrown for him. My friend went to the party and said Ray was all smiles the whole night. I can just imagine how happy he was, lol.

  45. R.... B....

what a trip. jamming along on my bass, and can't hurt but try to match the vocals thread. now they have vids on my big screen. I almost can't bear to look at them, the memories of such a clean fantastic voice echoing thru my head these years. Warning: Fate! May cause awesome shower singing.

  46. P.... F....

I keep mishearing the first line of this as "Anger your mum" which causes endless amusement.

    P.... F....

    Stop talking

    P.... F....

    get over yourself...

  47. R.... P....

    Glory Days of metal

  48. A.... A....

I love that defiant NEVER at the end.

  49. S.... ....

  50. R.... P....

    Aresti looks like Steve Vai

    R.... P....

i almost thought that was him haha

  51. J.... B....

Best part is before he starts singing Great Intro

    J.... B....

    Singing is fantastic \m/

  52. M.... H....

Not sure why they weren't more successful. Good stuff.

    M.... H....

They were not commercialized as much compared to other bands such as "Dream Theater" or late 80's early 90's Queensryche. IMO.

    M.... H....

@koolaidman9922 there are a few catchy hooks and turns in some of their songs, like this one. Besides the commercial end, they still should have had a following atleast like Slayer or Megadeth or something. They were that good.

    M.... H....

    Too many time changes

  53. D.... ....

    Probably their best song.

  54. j.... ....

First seen of Headbanger's ball, on MTV back in 1987. Huge fan, ever since. Damn, I'm getting old, but those guys still rock. darkness in a Different Light, is amazing.

    j.... ....

    Awwww dude they dtill rock

    j.... ....

Yeah I remember seeing the video on Headbangers Ball too. The Los Angeles metal radio station KNAC (which went off the air 20 years ago) also played this song.

    j.... ....

    Theories of flight even better

    j.... ....

I remember zrock used to play there music

    j.... ....

Try The Spectre Within and The Guardian. Both great to me. give them a listen you will not be disappointed.

  55. M.... ....

Right into my FATES WARNING playlist. ROCK ON!!!!!!

  56. l.... ....

I tried so hard to get into this band, Such a great lead singer, but the off time music just drove me nuts. Sorry, but the number one rule is you have to be able to tap your foot to it. This band could have done soooo much more.

    l.... ....

Are you kidding? How is any of this off time? Maybe we're hearing different riffs...

    l.... ....

Also since when has music had rules? These guys were pioneers, they invented progressive metal, years before even Dream Theater. They were pushing boundaries.

    l.... ....

@Robyn Chronister He'd REALLY hate Meshuggah, then!

    l.... ....

Look folks 400 time signatures but zero sales

  70. M.... ....

Awesome intro, and killer band I love 8"s thrash metal especially underrated thrash.

  71. R.... T....

What are you talking about? The production had just the right amount of 1980's awesomeness!

  72. j.... ....

Wish the production was better on this album because it was EPIC!

  73. J.... A....

    Great band of metal

  74. .... ....

and the lirics people getting u reallllyyyy high

  75. P.... P....

Thats what major record labels make you do.

  76. G.... ....

I totally agree. I was so disappointed when I heard the new one after this, they didnt need to change the sound. Anarchy Divine is their best song.

  77. g.... g....

    ΠΑΡΤΑΑΑΑΑΑΑΑΑΑΑΑ ΣΤΗΝ ΚΩΛΑΡΑ!!!ΕΤΣΙΙΙΙΙΙΙΙΙ!!!!

  78. Y.... ....

I really wish Fates Warning had made one more album in this thrash metal progression they were headed in after Awaken the Guardian and No Exit, instead of diving right in to the prog metal shit after this album... It would have been fucking awesome!! Ah well, AtG and NE are still badass as hell.

  79. e.... ....

probably the closest FW came to thrash metal was this song! awesome!

  80. t.... E....

These guys could rock out hard when they wanted to.

    Gar

  81. T.... ....

@metalironbird Harpos - I cant believe anybody remembers that place - or Blondies. I remember Annihilator and Testament at the Masonic - and then seeing Phantom of the Opera musical there like two years later.
