Fairport Convention - The Ballad Of Easy Rider Lyrics

The river flows, flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes that's where I want to be
Flow river flow, let your waters wash down
Take me from this road to some other town

All he wanted was just to be free
And that's the way it turned out to be
Flow, river flow, let your waters wash down
Take me from this road to some other town

Flow river go, past the shady tree
Flow river flow, flow to the sea
Flow river flow, flow to the sea

The river flows to the sea
Wherever that river goes that's where I want to be
Flow river flow, let your waters wash down
Take me from this road to some other town

All he wanted was just to be free
And that's the way it turned out to be
Flow, river flow, let your waters rush down
Take me from this road to some other town

Flow river go, past the shady tree
Flow river flow, flow to the sea
Flow river flow, flow to the sea

A thing of beauty, written by Roger McGuinn. The story goes that Bob Dylan wrote on a napkin: "The river flows to the sea, wherever that river goes, that's where I want to be..." and gave it to Roger McGuinn who did the rest. I don't believe Bob Dylan got any writing credit for it. The treatment that Richard Thompson and Sandy Denny give to this song here just sends shivers up and down the spine.

In this interview, Roger McGuinn says he "co-wrote" the song with Dylan but Dylan called him up at 3:00 in the morning and said he didn't need the money. Comes about the 57th minute of this interview called "A Conversation with Roger McGuinn": https://borntolisten.com/2019/07/13/july-13-happy-77th-birthday-roger-mcguinn/?fbclid=IwAR2A6ogeycN8sT8i9pxXyiC2gzI6EYGSgk4DmRVpc4Wwmcy8_rsmwxa7PSw
