Fairport Convention - Morning Glory Lyrics

I lit my purest candle close to my
Window, hoping it would catch the eye
Of any vagabond who passed it by
And I waited in my fleeting house

Before he came I felt him drawing near
As he neared I felt the ancient fear
That he had come to wound my door and jeer
As I waited in my fleeting house

"Tell me stories," I called to the hobo
"Stories of cold," I smiled to the hobo
"Stories of old," I knelt to the hobo
And he stood before me and my fleeting house

"No," said the hobo, "no more tales of time
Don't ask me now to wash away the grime
I can't come in 'cause it's too high a climb"
And he walked away from my fleeting house

"Then you be damned!" I screamed to the hobo
"Leave me alone," I wept to the hobo
"Turn into stone," I knelt to the hobo
And he walked away from my fleeting house

Stunning...fairport always seems better live...amazing they were so young...and talented...unfortunately not so well known in the states..one of those groups you either "get it" and love them, or you dont. I feel sorry for those who dont...theyre truly missing a world of beauty! The live bbc sessions collection is my most prized treasure.

Sky Vibes ...no its a cd box set...the last disc is extreme rarities you wont find anywhere else! The box set comes in a beautiful box with a booklet attached and 4 cds covering their history from beginning to early 70s ..the price is very reasonable and the sound quality so good you cant tell its all live recordings...in fact i prefer many of these cuts over the studio album versions. I hope you find and enjoy a copy.

Sky Vibes - please fix the erroneous "MacDonald" - you later get it right saying this is Ian Matthews. / Jeannie Franklyn was tailor to many rock groups, including Cream. Jack Bruce's "Songs for a Tailor" comes from that.

Hi 7777Scion, I'm not sure it is in fact erroneous - if you look at the band listings on the first Fairport album he is credited as "Ian MacDonald: lead vocals, jews harp" so unless they got it wrong back then? I do know his birth name was Iain Matthew McDonald and then I believe he was known as Ian MacDonald / Ian Matthews and in 1989 reverted to the original spelling of his first name Iain Matthews. Anyway, I'm happy to change it in the description to avoid any further confusion! Didn't know the Jeannie Franklin / Jack Bruce fact tho', that's quite interesting.

Amazing how many people don't know he changed his name to avoid confusion with the guy from King Crimson.

I still prefer Tim Buckly's version!

  8. o.... ....

This is an old Tim Buckley song if I'm not mistaken. Love this arrangement and performance.

    o.... ....

Yes it was written by Tim, and was on his "Happy Sad" album.

    o.... ....

@Glenn Alexander It's by Tim, yes, but it's on "Goodbye and Hello."

    o.... ....

oldjack, this version was done when Buckley's song was new.
