Fairport Convention - Knockin' On Heaven's Door Lyrics
Mama, take this badge off of me
I can't use it anymore
It's gettin' dark, too dark for me to see
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Mama, put my guns in the ground
I can't shoot them anymore
That long black cloud is comin' down
I feel like I'm knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door
Knock, knock, knockin' on heaven's door

Fairport Convention Knockin' On Heaven's Door Comments
Bet Dyland would love sing with Sandy.
Wonderful arrangement. Why have I never heard of Sandy Denny? from Fairport Convention.
Big fan for years, never knew she sang this! Love to Sandy
Me too.. so amazing voice🔥
We were all so innocent back then
Such a sad and tragic loss.

너무 좋다..무한반복..
Hauntingly beautiful.
So blody beautiful & talented - my dream girlfriend of the 1970's if I ever have ti pick one...
Robert Zimmerman's version still No. 1...but this a close second...
Sandy Denny and her spiritual voice literally alow us to knock on the doors iof heaven itself. She continues to light my way after discovering her in the early 80....
I was not aware of that version before... it is so great...
Sandy & Company sure could cover Dylan tunes, again this is one of the best versions of this great classic I’ve heard.
Love this track. Great
wow never heard this before and Sandy gives it the feel and heart felt meaning that the song truly deserves form a song writer who has no equal
sorry but not getting high but just enjoying the brilliant singing of a great natural composers song, simple ,easy and relaxed, and natural, thank you Sandy, and Bob
WOW! Blown away by Sandy's rendition. Very POWERFUL.
A brilliant cover of this song, Sandy Denny RIP a classic in my opinion.
41thumbs down............seriously!!,
Wow, just wow.
Such an incredible singer
Play this @ my Wake please.
At age 72 how could I have not been given the pleasure of hearing Sandy Denny
This is simple perfection. Captures a real mood and feeling. In my opinion the best cover made of this song and not matched by any artist or singer in over 40 years.
Oh wow what a treat this early morning, I can see I'm going to have to follow this girl up and get some of her stuff. The most beautiful and unusual voice I've heard in quite a while.
Heaven opened ty he door to her too soon
I have heard alot of versions of this song but she has one of the best. What a voice!!!
... don’t really like Bob F. Dullard but this is great!
I sincerely hope she had the Savior to knock on Heaven's door with ...
Hey, The Best One.
love..love..love...
I'm a Dylan fanatic and even the great man himself holds this version by Sandy in the highest esteem . My favourite non Dylan version of this famous song by some way .
Could you give a link to where Dylan said this?
Great singer but what is with the words of this song, All mixed up and whats with the first line "Take these guns "FROM" off of me" as well as a lot of different words inserted. Definitely a good version but to me not the best I have heard.
loved it.sandy voice of an angel
Sandy Denny could sing the ingredients off a baked bean tin and it would sound amazing.......such feeling and emotion in her voice........amazing.
RIP, amazing Sandy Denny. Your music lives on & many of us still get emotional & are moved by your music💕
wonderful song by a classic singer ..
Play this at my funeral. She is beyond words.
THE VERY BEST LADY SINGER EVER WE MISS HER SO MUCH BLESS YOU SANDY DENNY AND THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING LOVE YOU FOREVER MORE.
The best version of this song. What a talent. Gone too soon. I love listening to
her music. Bless you Sandy. You are missed.
Sandy Denny sings a much better version of this song than the composer.
Versione molto bella della bravissima Sandy Denny
Ashamed to admit I had no idea this track existed until tonight. What a revelation!
Wonderful, wonderful stuff. For so many reasons.
Thank you.
As much as I love her work, this version of Knocking on Heaven's Door is not good at all. Yet it seems as though she can do no wrong in the eyes of her admirers and fans... Dylan's version is still the best, no contest.
I haven't heard Sandy's version of this for decades...who knows where the time goes? Just love it, sorry Bob, this is THE rendition of your famous song.
Heavenly voice...brings me to tears...
She was half Scottish as her names clearly show. Sandy is the Scottish diminutive for Alexandra (or Alexander too), MacLean and Denny are Scottish surnames.
Saw her way back when I was in the music industry, obviously a troubled child, where are all these Friends when needed??
Who could possibly give this a thumbs down ?? Her voice goes straight to the marrow of my bones & they want to harmonize.
I agree...
Just beautiful ...
I lived thev70's but DAMNED Sandy ... you really HAVED knocked on heavens door.
It is useless trying to describe her voice in words. Just listen and something divine is going on.
Of all the countless covers, this live one is one of a kind. She infuses it with raw emotional energy and the premonition of death. She completely gets the power of this song even though it was new. When she sings "bury my guns down in the ground" she does something to it that Dylan would do later, but she did it before him. That's influence.
nice ...
as kind as is even remotely possible...thanx
Maddy Prior was my angel, not now.Sandy magical
We all should be grateful that her American boyfriend in the 60's persuaded her she was good enough to perform on stage. His name was Jackson C Frank, another brilliant but troubled song writer.
A piercing beauty.
think sandy was very special the likes well not see again
It’s such a cruel twist of fate that we lose the very best so young. Sandy Denny, Eva Cassidy, Janis Joplin, Kate Wolf. What a beautiful melancholy rendition of Dylan’s classic
You have named all my favourite female artists yep it sure is a cruel blow
How tastes differ! I wouldn't dream of putting Sandy Denny and Janis Joplin in the same sentence, except as a study in extremes! One had a voice in a million, and the other's best use of a microphone was as a prop on which she could lean to croak convincingly enough to have the woeful result mistaken for passion - which it so often was!
@WeeWyllie so you don't like Sandy
fuck off getting in the way of good music shit go and busk it might make you better ,but i dont think so
She is there now!
Can't believe I'm hearing this for the first time... Thank God this was recorded. Best version of a Dylan song ever...
Good cover, but nothing compares with Dylan and The Band's live recordings on Before the Flood.
Effing brilliant! Why did I only discover this hugely talented lady after her passing?
This is unbelievable what a beautiful version of this lovely Bob Dylan song
SouL of a voice!
Sandy was remembered last night by some great musicians at #allwightnow a great celebration of the first brilliant Isle of Wight Festivals. Superb voice ✌️
great band great song overrated singer who couldn't sing in time to save her life. dying young does not make you great either
It's called *feeling* - Metronome not required here
Only good thing about this version is her voice.
Great musical creation, with voice of pure beauty singing a song of great emotional depth.
2 verses of pure , tragic genius - facing the moment of certain damnation - never sung better
SUPERB ARTIST !
The 20 morons who thumbed down this cover probably also voted for Trump.
or may or turnbull or macron or merkel or that piece of murdering shit in israel .I'd shoot the fucking lot if I was in charge along with all the elites that pull their strings.
Yes, shoot down and kill, the american solution to everything. More guns please, your solution to the school and church massacres in the US. This will allow the US population to eradicate itself. Who needs terrorists when you can do it yourself. Great policies.
Zimium, I voted for Trump and I also love this song.
Her voice... It pierces the soul!
I guess she is there now.
I'm not especially a Bob Dylan fan, but Bob Dylan sung the definitive version of this song. And it is my favorite song by him, by far. But this is certainly also a very, very good job.
At least it's not that Guns and Roses travesty.
💞💞💞💞💝
This women was amazing.
Fuk…….. that is a stunning version...…..
A beautiful version of a great song! So much emotion!
The magical voice of the great Sandy Denny covering a song by the enigma that is Bob Dylan. It does not get much better.
First time I ever hear of her was today.
And the very first two seconds and two sylilables of this first song and her voice and my lungs let out out its own involuntary gasp.
She must have been someones incredible soulmate.
Nim Boo: Listen to Sandy singing "Banks of the Nile" with Fotheringay. She was a one-off.
Lead into gold! Sandy is a musical alchemist.
Sorry, Bob. I'm a great fan and admirer of your music but this was always overated - until this!
Stunning
WOW so much Beauty God Bless her Soul 4 Everrr
Love this.
Oooh what a voice
Perfect day thanks
Ther`es only one Sandy Denny..
❤❤❤
I think bob Dylan would be happy with this version.
Bump ... Sandy Denny ... any time, anyhow ... can't be a bad thing, right ?
Superb, many thanks for posting. Surely Sandy was the Janis Joplin of the folk world; one of the most soulful singers to grace this world.
Sandy, you and Eva Cassidy teaching the Angels how to sing, I am sure of that...
Is she related to...whats that guys first name Denny is his last name was that the guy in Last Waltz is that a Denny? They related or other musicians in her family. I've never seen this album of hers-I need it I only have about 10,000 albums all in specialized shelves all in alphabetical order w/cabinets of 45's & old record holders of wood full of 78's. But haven't ever seen this. Oh lots of picture sleeves too! Yay!
say *17* on it - must be a box set collection of folk music.
I have 4 record box set https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EX-EX-Sandy-Denny-Who-Knows-Time-Goes-1985-4x-LP-Box-Set-Booklet-/382575683514
I happen to love Bob Dylan's original but as is often the case with cover versions of Dylans songs quite often they take on a whole new context of their own the artist putting their own stamp on it as demonstrated here by Fairport Guns and Roses version is also not without merit but completely different to the original.
merry christmas...2017
Merry Christmas! :)
..................:)
excellent and beautiful live cover version.
💜🐂💨
Wonderful cover - great touching voice!! - Love her since the 70s one of my fav lady-singer
