Fairport Convention - Flowers Of The Forest Lyrics

I've heard them lilting
At our ewe-milking
And I've heard them lilting
Before light o' day

Now they are mourning
For all time lamenting
The flowers of the forest
Are all wede away

Sad they for the order
That sent them to the border
The English by guile
For once won the day

Now they are mourning
For all time lamenting
The flowers of the forest
Are all wede away

I've heard them lilting
At our ewe-milking
And I've heard them lilting
Before light a-day

Now they are mourning
For all time lamenting
The flowers of the forest
Are all wede away

Powerful tune.  However, Flowers of the Forest was not a bonus track but the last track on side B of the record.

This was played at Sandy Denny's funeral.

    T.... ....

    Because it is a lament.

Interesting how it's became played at funerals of the British Army members. It's originally an old Scottish Jacobite song lamenting the fall of the Jacobite's at the Battle of Flodden against the English. The Flowers of the Forest being the young Scottish soldiers.
