Fair To Midland - A Wolf Descends Upon The Spanish Sahara Lyrics

If you're keeping score then you're bound to win,
A birds eye view of a burning bridge,
You've gone through ghost towns settle past,
Hoping the risk was worth a cause,

Oh, sound off the false alarm,

But i'll make my own colleague from wood and from ivory,
And reap the rewards of proximity,
I'll assemble my equal from what I lack and require,
And gather what's left unaccompanied,

It smells like disaster,
It looks like a trap,
So go by the wayside,
And never look back,

If you could spare me forty winks,
While you cry wolf and I count sheep,
What good old ghosts in Kevlar vests,
With backbones like a jellyfish,

Oh, stomp on your land again,

But i'll make my own colleague from wood and from ivory,
And reap the rewards of proximity,
I'll assemble my equal from what I lack and require,
And gather what's left unaccompanied,

It smells like disaster,
It looks like a trap,
So go by the wayside,
And never look back,

If you are keeping score then you are bound to win,
A ring side seat at the main event,
Oh, stomp on your land again,

It smells like disaster,
It looks like a trap,
So go by the wayside,
And never look back.

  3. D.... V....

    God I miss this band

  4. b.... ....

"If you could spare me forty winks while you cry wolf and I count sheep" that's poetry for "you bore me with your lies"

  5. A.... A....

Greetings genuine thinkers & feelers of this era... I come to you with a message encouraging you to follow your dreams!! There is no reason not to create beautiful pieces of this reality... whether you produce art, assistance, labor or love; if you are producing something positive then your doing your job as a human (in my opinion). I’m currently writing & producing two extended play releases before the years end... I hope to see your comments on the videos when they’re published. Thank you & have a splendid evening, friends!! ~ Max Ego

  6. R.... W....

I listened to Fair to Midland through my whole tour in Iraq, and I swear, there is no other music that could get a warrior through...

    R.... W....

"What good are ghosts in kevlar vests with backbones like a jellyfish?"

    R.... W....

Gather what's left of the company...

  7. E.... V....

That drum line at the beggining reminds of the sound of muzak by porcupine tree

  8. T.... ....

"You're in the ring, declaring the fighters." Bring this message to your gods.

  9. M.... Y....

    Damn, I miss this band.

  10. K.... M....

    BEST SONG EVER! <3

  11. M.... D....

This has quickly become my fave song by these guys. I loved dance of the manatee but this one is just wow. #bringbackFTM

  12. S.... ....

severely underrated band. this album is so great too

    S.... ....

Yeah, this album is jam-packed with great songs. The music theory, layering, and use of different instruments is phenomenal.

  13. R.... B....

Saw these guys at a Dir en grey concert like 10 years ago, liked them, decided to check them out. This whole album blew my mind.

    R.... B....

That's exactly how I got into them. That was a killer show! When I got home and I listened to the album I was completely blown away.

  14. A.... ....

    so good :)

  15. C.... S....

when i was a kid this was one of my favorites idk when it came out but i remember hearing them on the radio and fell in love.

  16. S.... a....

    I love this song

  17. M.... E....

but I make my own colleague from wood and from Ivory, and reap the rewards of proximity

  18. Y.... ....

Not really my kind of thing in music to be honest, BUT, I can't help but admit that this band is something else entirely from anything I've heard in a long while. Respect.

    Y.... ....

+Yojimbo711 You`re a cool dude, cool to see someone go out his way for a good word

    Y.... ....

I feel ya. Even if it isn't your cup of tea you have to recognize the talent

    Y.... ....

an extremely talented band that I WISH WOULD COME BACK!@!! COME BACK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Y.... ....

Same, dude. His voice is wicked as shit. You might also like Dream on, Dreamer

  19. l.... ....

I liked this song better than the first even.  This actually reminds me a lot of my ex bro in law's band sounded.  It was sad to see them call it quits (they agreed to give themselves until 29, I think, and by then, of course people are usually have
    involvement like parenting, etc...

You might appreciate this story :)

Their guitarrist, Skye was kind of flakey.  But I liked him...aquired taste. (He irritated me at first bc he'd alway make some really outrageous comment about my appearance that day...nothing nasty, just I thought he was giving me sh*t...you know, "probably thinks it's fun to poke fun at Mr. Corporation by saying this outrageous BS in front of everyone", but after a while it dawned on me he actually meant that sh*t.,,,so it was a vision issue.
His given name was Sean and my ex would harass all of them about "time to grow up. c'on you can do it...face your fear of "the Beav"' - meaning we all really want to fit in, just give in and conform. Anyway, THAT would never happen..haha..what was cool about Skye was he'd have these things he felt he had to do, just once. But it had to happen.
So he decided he need to write and produce a play and he did.  That how this flake was...a very effective one actually. Maybe you'll like his ideas but a lot of people would want him arrested. But you might like it maybe,  and he got an audience at a decent local play theatre bc there's people like that here.
His play was another ..I don't what they call it. It was a mix of interaction between actors, interaction with the audience and symbolism. As the theme of the "Passion" .
Skye's twist was to represent Christ as a nude woman on the ground except while all the interaction was going on, with the female lay on the floor,  not speaking but clearly in some sort of agony. With a spot on her off to the side of the actors. So the audience  interacted with the speaking .e actors, and of couse actors w/actors, but the cast off woman was alone, the nakedness was to show the shame the we do to each other and ourselves I think.
Skye was a trip, He interviewed for a part time temp job at my ex's company. At the interview he told them, "this isn't going to work. I can tell the dress code will mess up my Chakra".  He had a special rug he put on stage for that chakra.  Lived on sailboat..not big one, just 36 ft, which is cramped for a full time home.  Yeah, I'm sure he's doing fine.

  20. G.... F....

It's sad to know that such deep meaningful lyrics and beautiful music isn't what people want anymore. They want train wreck pop stars and catchy lyrics with no meaning written by some washed up artist and performed by stereotypical bands.

    G.... F....

    usually wiz khalifa is fine

    G.... F....

    it only got worse

    G.... F....

@Maxx Ego of course. It's easier to be stupid, by why be so

    G.... F....

    You might enjoy my art

  21. y.... ....

So I'll make my own colleague from wood and from ivory and reap the rewards of proximity.

I'll assemble my equal from what I lack and require and gather what's left unaccompanied.

    (last chorus)
it smells like disaster. Thank God I took steps. So go by the wayside and never look back.

    y.... ....

The real lyrics are "It smells like disaster. Take all of the scraps. So go by the wayside and never look back."

    http://fairtomidlandfans.com/band/lyrics/wolfdescends.php

    y.... ....

Actually your both wrong it’s “it’s smells like disaster it looks like a trap”

    y.... ....

Neither one of the things you thought even made sense

  22. .... *....

weird abrupt ending- Is that the way the song ends..?  or does it continue into a 'next song'?

    .... *....

@╬ *JimmyWacked* Weird ending? I find it perfectly satisfying.

  23. M.... ....

    It smells like disaster
    Thank god I can smell
    and go by the wayside
    And never look back

  24. L.... ....

I ordered this album after reading around for bands similar to the ones I like. Cannot wait for it now..

  25. W.... ....

    Boom, You're married.

  26. z.... v....

    i offer myself as tribute.

    z.... v....

    *i volunteer as tribute*
    Sorry

  27. W.... ....

    Marry me?

  28. S.... M....

you just gained my respect, I remember your videos from AGES ago, even liked the song you did 'Make me Bad', but the fact that you discovered this band.... You got TASTE! Good for you sir, good for YOU!

  29. S.... ....

Is this a goat singing ??? Sorry fans

    S.... ....

Definitely making a "goat-like" quiver lol. A lot of old folk singers did that tho, so it really suits the theme and style of their music.

You either like it enough to let it grow on you or hate it lol.

    S.... ....

SecretPesch Is this an autistic kid writing?

  30. W.... ....

    Masterpiece. My favourite song ever.

  31. S.... J....

Damien likes Fair To Midland? Hrm. Seems like I like him even more now.

  32. j.... a....

cant help but like the hell out of this band. Not a bad song on any album

  33. y.... ....

It smells like disaster, Thank God I can smell. Now go by the wayside and never look back.

  34. y.... ....

I always thought the last line of the chorus said "and gather what's left of this time for me."

  35. R.... ....

    Genius songwriter Darroh!

  36. A.... W....

if you look at it really deeply, they relate, but sometimes it's hard to see the correlation.

  37. X.... ....

Agreed, Skabuloosh. Seriously, you guys...its called wordplay.

  38. S.... ....

The both make sense. pause, by which you argued and explained. And paws, because he's describing this as a wolf. as in a wolf, who goes around set on paws, wonders into a deserted town by curiosity

  39. J.... ....

very crazy names they put on their songs that dont really seem to relate to the song but good songs nonetheless!

  40. J.... P....

I checked FTM's website, and it says the lyrics for that part are "Take all of the scraps."

  41. J.... P....

If it's about a man who leaves his past behind, couldn't it be paws because he's a "lone wolf"? He is leaving everything behind. IF you go on FTM's website, they have a picture of a wolf burning a bridge for this song.

  42. m.... h....

3:13 THE most sorrowful sigh I have ever heard.

  43. J.... P....

Yeah, it sounds like either "Thank God I can smell," or "Take your lies and scram."

  44. o.... ....

@ninjajesus81 I've been informed it's something to the effect of "Take your lies and scram/Now go by the wayside and never look back."

    o.... ....

    Take all of the scraps

  45. J.... B....

The last repetition of the chorus at the end is different from the others. Can't find what the real words are, though, but it's more different than what's in the lyrics in this video.

  46. a.... ....

    Fuck you Fred, fuck you.

  47. J.... P....

@the0US0marine hey i'm not saying you're wrong... i'm just saying thats my interpritation of it.

  48. N.... ....

    @123unknownsoldier126 lyricsmode com/lyrics/f/fair_to_midland/a_wolf_descends_upon_the_spanish_sahara.html

  49. B.... ....

@the0US0marine Yeah... I think it's paws too. It makes more sense to me.

  50. J.... P....

@the0US0marine you may be right, but i think it's paws because "set on" can also mean that you are walking on paws or feet, and because of the title.

  51. N.... ....

    @123unknownsoldier126 Ghost town. Pause.

  52. J.... P....

    @the0US0marine wolves... paws...

  53. S.... H....

@teenelmo26 I'm not a complete fan of Enter Shikari (Experimental hardcore, yet folky) but you should at least READ, Just read the lyrics to "arguing with thermometers"
And Bright Eyes, check out all of his songs, I'm a big fan:)

  54. K.... ....

@PoppyBird02 It is actually pause. As in the whole ghost town has been paused.

  55. K.... a....

    hell
    yah speak the truth

  56. s.... c....

music thats truly on the fray, just the way i like it............

  57. J.... M....

    FTM FTW

  58. N.... ....

@PoppyBird02 How does "Ghost towns set on paws" make any sense? It is "Pause". It's a ghost town so it's like everyone just left the place like it was and vanished. Making things look like they are paused.

  59. T.... M....

    @TheCovenant4 Giraffe.

  60. T.... M....

@makemebad35 I saw them just before they released their new CD. Scale the Summit opened for them. Darroh got wasted and still managed to dance like he does in Musical Chairs. I wish I had seen them a bit later so I could have caught some of their new stuff, but it was still amazing.

  61. m.... ....

@XsinisterbowX I really want to see them live now! I got their new CD and just loved it. So I went and bought their Fables CD too and enjoy it just as much. They are my new favorite right now!

  62. T.... M....

    @makemebad35
Dude, you have great taste in music. These guys are genius. Darroh goes crazy on stage and they're just as amazing live. You should seriously see them when you get the chance.

  63. m.... ....

Damn, this band is just awesome. My new favorite in awhile.

  64. A.... ....

Is this song about chess or is it just me getting that impression?
From "And reap the rewards of proximity" and ofcourse alotta other lines in the lyrics making me assume this?

  65. s.... ....

    @orphaeus99 it's actually.. "You've gone through ghost towns settle past," ; )

  66. y.... ....

@PoppyBird02 its set on pause, as if everything is still, nothing happening... hence, ghost town.

  67. h.... ....

    1 person is deaf

  68. T.... ....

Mos def one of my favorite songs by dear old FTM! Darroh holding ANY note= jizz in my pants

    T.... ....

Well worth a like for using a word which scores 29 on scrabble!

  69. K.... D....

@PoppyBird02 I know exactly what you mean. It might just be me, but I've always felt for the song Quince that the line "Your crimes are not mine or theres, weary from the the wear you invent" is actually "Your crimes are not minor, theres weary from the wear you invent."

  70. H.... T....

@teenelmo26 I am a kid of this generation, yet I could give less than a thought to the music pouring out of the media. Fair to Midland kicks ass and the new autotuned music is just a disgrace. I just wanted you to know that kids of this generation listen to good music, too. :D

  71. m.... ....

@dan52484 I do like Animals as Leaders, but I shall look up that other thing. Thanks!

  72. m.... ....

@dan52484 Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Scale the Summit, and Between the Buried and Me. Just as suggestions, if you don't know em already.

  73. s.... ....

so much emotion displayed in the vocals...

  74. k.... ....

Tell me how many bands sound like these guys? None. Beacause their just that awesome, orginal and badass!

  75. r.... ....

    @PoppyBird02 It's pause, man.

  76. P.... ....

Nah, it's pause. Paws would make no sense at all

  77. o.... ....

    @PoppyBird02 Damned homophones. LOL.

In any case, you might be right, though I can't really see how one would make more sense than the other.

  78. N.... ....

@PoppyBird02 Nah, I think set on pause makes more sense, because in a ghost town nothing moves, just like a video or song set on pause. Y'know what I'm trying to say? It's referring to the ghost town, not "you". I can see where you're coming from though :P

  79. L.... B....

I Love this band! They dare to use intelligent lyrics in a time where kids could care less about understanding the true meaning behind songs. Kids want to hear their Lady Ga Ga and Justin Beiber, but this band has boldly set out to show how music should be done! GO FTM!

  80. D.... ....

    @larry52333

Yes thats a great song as well..I got through phases of what songs attract me daily..lol Its a mood thing I guess

  81. D.... ....

My personal Fav by FTM at the moment..Fuckin LOOOVEEE this song... Its amazing in all phases

  82. D.... M....

    @OverUnderneath i conqure indeed

  83. O.... ....

I'm a chick. But, yeah, whatever.

  84. o.... ....

@OverUnderneath You're quite welcome, my good man.

  85. O.... ....

Beautiful energy married to undiluted lyrical vision. Why I love Fair to Midland? They don't dumb down their shit, they insist on instrumentally rocking out. Thanks, Orphaeus99, for demonstrating impeccable taste.
