Failure - Smoking Umbrellas Lyrics

Woke in my warm bed
Just in time for all the brilliant red lights
They were streaming through my half-shuttered window
Christmas lights in time with my stuttered brain waves

The door knob was glowing
All my photographs were rippled and melting
Through the walls I could hear panicked voices
They seemed to say, "go back to bed there's no choices
And nowhere not burned out"

The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left
In the hallway and
The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left here

I gave no answer
To all their shouted questions, just lay back choking
Didn't want to stay but my bed was on fire
Instead of screaming I fell back into dreamland
Blinking and sighing

The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left
In the hallway and
The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left here

I don't wanna leave
The comfort of my bed
I'd never believed it would happen this way

The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left
In the hallway and
The fireman calls out
We've got another
Smoking umbrella left here

  1. S.... B....

This song is either about a guy on acid who is having a bad trip or a dudes house catching on fire

  2. A.... M....

Fun fact : In a live setting, Failure ALWAYS play this song one-half lower, because Ken couldn't hit the high notes otherwise. 😅

  3. D.... M....

I think it's open to several interpretations. For example it could be that the oxygen starvation has already got to his reasoning ability before he even wakes up, or prevents him from fully awaking, and there are other ways of interpreting why he reacts the way he does. I like your interpretation a lot though.

  8. J.... A....

It's weird to think this song is about a guy who dies in a fire

    J.... A....

    It's a metaphor

  9. M.... M....

    I've got Fantastic Planet in 320 :)
