Everything But The Girl - Rollercoaster Lyrics

I still haven't got over it even now.
I want to spend huge amounts of time on my own.
I don't want to cause any serious damage.
I want to make sure that I can manage,
Because I'm not really in your head,
I'm not really in your head.

And I see love and disaffection
And the clouds build up and won't pass over.
This is my road to my redemption.
And my life is just an image of a rollercoaster anyway.

I still haven't got over it even now.
I want to spend huge amounts of time in my room.
And I'm not coming out until I feel ready,
Not running out for a while my heart's unsteady,
And I'm not really in your head.
I'm not really in your head.

When you sky falls to minus zero,
Well some things must disappear.
Oh this is my road to my redemption.

And my life is just an image of a rollercoaster anyway.
The names may have been changed but the faces are the same
The names may have been changed but as people we're not the same.

And I'm not, no I'm not, no I'm not
Really in your head.

And my life is just an image of a rollercoaster anyway.
Yeah, my life is just an image of a rollercoaster anyway.

"Amplified Heart" instantly became one of my favorite albums when I first heard it, and is still one of my all-time top ten albums, across all genres.

I bought the "Amplified Heart" CD (remember those?) at an actual record store (remember those?) on a whim when it was released in the US back in 1994. I had heard their earlier hit, "Driving", on a local jazz radio station, but otherwise knew nothing about EBTG. I certainly was not disappointed in "Amplified Heart"!

I went on to buy many more EBTG CDs and I have never been disappointed in any of their music. Ben's lyrics are genius and are poetry in every sense of the word. They paint pictures and tell stories and evoke memories and feelings. Tracey's beautiful voice is a perfect fit for the lyrics and she brings the lyrics to life to such an extent that we feel like we're listening to our own internal voice recounting our own memories. The instrumentation perfectly complements the theme and tone of the songs.

    Five out of five stars!

  40. Emre Bilge

Their songs remind me of rainy, overcast autumns and winters. Maybe because I used to buy and listen to their albums those times. Or because of their nice mysterious sound. That's why I feel confounded seeing a sunny day in their clips.

  41. Claudio Alvarez

O primeiro CD que eu comprei na vida foi o Amplified Heart em 1996 quando eu tinha 17 anos, tenho até hoje o CD. Rollercoaster sempre foi minha preferida.

Tracey's vocals are so beautiful... She makes it seem so effortless... I always said D&B could really be special, with the right emotional combo of an emotional voice, and a tempered beat, and then, hence "A Tree Knows Everything"

AMPLIFIED HEART is BIG Music for those who can understand the real meaning of REAL MUSIC!!!

  53. tim burger

Amplified Heart!! My goodness! I challenge you to name one song on this album that is not just fantastic! However, Rollercoaster, man this is the definitive EBTG track. This is just the culmination of everything they did up to this point. Absolute PERFECTION!

    Ronathan McCoy

Bought this for $0.50 with a bunch of other mid 90's electronic CDs at a 2nd hand store. After listening to the obvious world hit that is the techno remix of"Missing" that I remembered so fondly, I swapped it out for some other techno stuff. Came back to it tonight for a proper try at the whole album. During the first two songs, I was just continuously floored with emotions: haven't heard an album this jam packed full of hits containing nothing except good writing and solid flow since the second Savage Garden album. Finding out the two members eventually got married makes these songs hold even more meaning. I'll listen to the rest on the way to work tomorrow; they now have a new fan. :D

  54. João Paulo Lima

Subtle, meaningful songwriting; Of course the pop world only gave them half a glace. "People call things 'vulgar' when they are new to them. When they have become old, they become 'good taste.' " ----Mary Quant
