Everything But The Girl - Don't Leave Me Behind Lyrics

You will be a star
And I will be so jealous when you are,
But you'll always be a fool
So I will catch you when the world is cruel

And though dizzy heights are on your mind
Oh honey please don't leave me behind

You think it's so easy
But listen, oh they once said the same to me
And you'll be loved for sure
But I think I will always deserve it more

And when you fall I think you'll find
That you never really left me behind
Don't leave me behind

While you're down here I will be kind
Tell everyone that to my mind
You should be being wined and dined
So don't forget me and don't leave me behind

I really don't follow 'pop' music, but i've always liked this song...it's a pop masterpiece, very at-the-pool top-down (I mean in a CAR now) summer-ey sounding

  3. A.... ....

    very 80s/mall/ValleyGirl sounding

  4. T.... ....

Tracey Thorn is the voice. Just bloody fantastic.

  5. K.... C....

Bellísimo álbum, casi sinfónico: de lo mejor del pop inglés de todos los tiempos!!!!

  6. b.... ....

Lyricwise the story is similar to the Carpenter's "Superstar". This is such a bright and jazzy number!

  9. D.... E....

    By far their best song.

This album--in 1986, right after graduating high school--is when I first REALLY got into Everything But The Girl. A friend of mine who was really into The Smiths told me that Johnny Marr played on one of their earlier songs back around '84. Didn't pay much attention to it at the time, since I was sort of obsessing over Madonna then. It was the first track off "Baby, The Stars Shine Bright" that got my full attention. I was like, "Who, and WHAT is this??" It sounded so "different." And at the time, EBTG was criticized with changing their sound with each album, namely with this one. But I loved it, loved it, loved it. I played it continuously---through the fall, winter, then following spring and summer months in '87, and basically throughout my two years in art school (since dropped).

And to this day, I can never forget those melodies, the album's rather short 30+ minute run time, and of course, Tracey's look at the time. Pure vintage.

The song was Native Land. Marr played harmonica.

Ben laughs all through this video!

one of my favourite albums of the eighties love tracys vocals

  22. M.... ....

i agree with all thats been said here, it's a crime that this song did'nt even hit the top 70!....
it's a classic slice of 80s magic, Tracy and Ben were once my super heroes....
today they are my saviours!, this kinda stuff is what today's music is lacking, pure genius and REAL instruments!

  28. a.... ....

Despite the 70s talk show set, this should have been a hit! It didn't even crack the Top 50 in the UK!? Still a brilliant song and album, Sugar Finney should have been a single too!

  29. S.... D....

This is how Pure Pop is done, People.
