I used to actually try to understand each lyric and the meaning of each song. But his writing is metaphorical and abstract now with this new record i can barely make heads or tails of it.

everything going "black" = his wife's pregnancy has made her sick, everything looks hopeless.
"Leads are black / wires that run from them" = Intravenous fluid leads.
"thought of death"/"purest of the drugs" = considering suicide/drugs in the face of the overwhelming fear of his sick wife.
"what if meaning never comes" = fatherhood
"What becomes of all creation if the smallest prayer is firmly answered no?" = what happens to us if we have no meaning?
"I'd better warm up my gun in case love is not enough" = he'll kill himself knowing love wasn't enough to save his wife.
"From hospital to hospital, repeat" = specialists to specialist to try and fix it.
"First I need to save the life of god so that god can come and save me from myself" = he was considering turning to religion ('save the life of god') so that he could have someone to save himself if things didn't turn out okay.
"If I have to walk alone I'm giving up" = suicide
"I can't stay here knowing love is not enough" = this world isn't worth being in if his love for his wife/unborn daughter wasn't enough.

This song is I think, about the idea of suicide and Keith thinking its not worth to live if his pregnant wife perishes. The line has to do something with the feeling of Keith being "reborn" or given hope by the girl that was "ripped" out of her wife before the time of mature pregnancy hence the "untimely ripped" line. A sign of life threatening urgency that comes out well in the end.

His daughter was born via caesarian section (untimely ripped cf. Macbeth where Macduff is described as being from his mother's womb untimely ripp'd) . The line is literally meant that as his daughter has been born and not been lost, he feels like he has a second chance at life, despite all the doubt and depression that went before.

I think you're half right. First part is literal, about his daughter being born prematurely, but 'I was born again as a girl' is more about Keith feeling that, from the moment she was born in such troubling circumstances, her struggle is his struggle; her pain is his. They are the same person now.

His wife had an emergency c-section, two months before term. They struggled a lot to save the life of both his wife and his daughter. This song is all about the pain he went through in that period, contemplating suicide if things went wrong. In the end, they were saved, the birth of his daughter meaning he also gave up on the suicide thoughts, being able to continue living, metaphorically being born again.

Every time I die killed it with this album. Amazing.
