Everly Brothers, The - The Story Of Me Lyrics
Rescue me, before my dreams have flown away
Rescue me, take me back with you again
The lonely hours I wait for dawn's caress
I can't forget, the silence of the loneliness
Destiny, I wrote the book about the game
Try as I may I can't explain the way I'm feeling now
Try as I may I can't explain
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That there was heartbreak ahead
And everyone but I could see
That's the story of me
Don't look back, to think about the things we did
Don't look back, to pretend that's how it might have been
So now the story can be told,
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That there was sorrow to come and I thought there'd be ecstasy
That's the story of me
And now I'm walking right back to you
And all along I never really knew
That it's so easy to see that's how it's meant to be
And that's the story of me
Story of me,
That's the story of me

Lushes .. hypnotic.. heavenly.. rescue me
Jeff Lynne is and will always be a musical genius!
Good songs and true artists live forever.
Song certainly grows on you as it stays in my memory.
Thanks to Jeff Lynne for producing (writing) and reviving the great Everly Brothers...From 1972 to 1986 Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra has had more top 40 hits than any other groups in the world. 50 years later they still play in sold out Arenas and Stadiums. I just saw them in Toronto July 18 2019 ( Best Concert of my life). At 72 Jeff Lynne's voice is still awesome. I really hope they will Tour again in 2020 for the 50th anniversary of Jeff Lynne's Electric Light Orchestra.
Great! And there is a huge similarity to „Beatles Forever“, the never released song from the „Secret Messages“ recordings
2019, i still love it!
I love Jeff Lynne too but no one could sing this like Don and Phill Everly. Jeff thought so too.
There's a demo of McCartney doing " on the wings of a nightingale", wish there was a demo of Jeff doing this
The genius of the real master of writing and production. JL....
Fantastic song from musical genius. Great idea, that he should sing it too
Another Jeff Lynne masterpiece and NOTHING in honours list AGAIN! Unbelieveable!!
Another Jeff Lynne's producting including backing Vocals....Fantastic!!!
The only ones singing are Don and Phil Everly.
Krijg er geen genoeg van wat een nummer.
+JOOP VISSER Can not get enough of what a song.

GEWELDIG WAT EEN GOED NUMMER HEERLIJK.
@JOOP VISSER Bedankt voor het luisteren
I remember thinking how new'-n'-now the electronics sounded when this came out. Still love the arrangement - it sounds completely of its time. but not in a way that makes you want to bury your head in a pile of cushions.
the syth is spot on
First time I heard this album I was breaking a fever at an early age. I knew who the Everly Brothers were already. But listening to this album all these years later, made me realize that in the end its time to leave never never land behind and to grow up. As much as I don't want to.....
@Matthew Sadler
Feel exactly the same way...reminds me when I was very young and didn´t look back. Thougt I would life forever in those days long ago...makes me so sad
Classic Jeff Lynne songwriting here....would LOVE to hear Jeff sing this!!!!!!!!!
I hope we hear Jeff sings this song in the very near future. This song is so Jeff Lynne...
The whole album was co-produced by Jeff Lynne and Dave Edmunds
Great song! I love it✌️
Another gem by my favorite singers, Don and Phil, that should have been a hit in the 80s. Love all of EB84 album....should be on the radio every day.
Criminal that this album is out of print. Insane. So many awesome cuts. Until then, we have YouTube... thanks for posting!
You can get it on Amazon.com or Fnac.fr
I adored the wonderful Everly Brothers throughout my 'teens and they have lost nothing in their power for me when it comes to songs that are deceptively simple in melody yet so meaningful in lyrics.
There are so,so,so many more than their "hits" that are absolutely wonderful; this is merely one.
To think they had none of the modern technology that exists now in producing some of today's lovely music.....back then, along with other true "greats"..they simply didn't need it.
My favorite of the Everly's songs. RIP Phil.
One of my absolute favorites from them, and it is not on Spotify. Thank you.
Great song ignored by people who know nothing about harmony.
One of the greatest melody from Jeff Lynne's fabric of hits
