Everclear - The Twistinside Lyrics
We have been sleeping with the lights on
Just about every night
Because we are afraid of what the dark might bring
I know, I know it's just a childish fear
That grows and grows wild in the middle of me
Black and stretching around my arm
Like a life that is visible and real
I know, I know it's stupid and immature
I just want to give shape to the face
That twists inside both you and me
Breathing fire doesn't look good on a resume
Neither does anything else we do
We got to get ready for the real world
Yeah yeah we got to grow up
You know I like to die for awhile
I like to let the arms of a bar wrap around me tight
I'm just going to sprawl in the front booth
Big drink above my head
Cross eyes and smiling as I watch the world go twisting by
I don't want to die with you,
Or live in the same dark room
I don't want to see your bloodshot eyes no more, no more
I just want to take this girl
all curls and big brown eyes
Man I can't take the pain of wanting her, needing her
I know the secret of your soul
And I just don't want to know
Yeah, man we got to grow up

Ugggghhhhh Sometimes I forget how much I love this band 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
PDX love.
Forever my song
This is an underrated jam. The intro is so solid.
“We got to get ready for the real world.”
I quoted that in my senior yearbook.
FUCK YEAH. Love this album.
Saw these guys in like 98 at the house of blues in myrtle beach. good fuckin memories of when the pit didnt require a seperate ticket from the cons at ticketmaster
"Breathing fire -- doeSn't look good on a resume Neither does anything else we do"
Quote that every single day.
3 min mark and on Oly chit.. the shear emotion of this band ... makes u wanna get up and punch a hole in the sky!
It seems only yesterday the four of us teenagers. Hanging out smoking, drinking rolling around the floor laughing and listening to this album, not a care in the world. Well i guess its been over 20 years now.Just heard the news today that you left us. Damn been almost 10 years since we lost Em and now you. I would have never guessed in a million years that by 40 that you girls would be gone. You will always be missed and see you when its my time.
Beautiful
Along with Green Day's Insomniac and the Offspring's Smash this is one of the best albums ever. Sometimes I really wish I had been born in this age of music, for it's my favorite. Instead I sit as a sad 2004 kid.
You have officially been inducted, congrats neo-90s kid.
OMG! I haven't heard this song for like 20 years, but I recognized the begining of the song with the sweet guitare part like if it was yesterday!
it's my b-day !!!!
My childhood!!!
summer of 97 this album was my life, even if I was late to the party
Same here....top 10 most influential and cathartic albums for me.
Patrick Williams Summer 98 right when I completed 11th grade a few months after I got SMFTA.
Best complete song they did, love the buildup.
makes the track
fucking fire. this band is so bad ass. this album for sure but i mean sucking A! they kill it on every track.
great great song
back when I was smitten with my kitten. xoxo :)
Gorilla Mojo he he smitten 🥰
This album is perfection. Great memories of seeing them tour for this album.
reminds me of a lynryd skynyrd song because he sounds almost southern lol
Quite simply the greatest song by the greatest band to ever come out of Portland (sorry... er... Quarterflash!). Always saw these guys as Nirvana's heir-apparent (though Puddle of Mudd actually sounded more like them, albeit with less talent than either band). Love how this puppy gradually builds in intensity 'til about the 2:00 mark only to stay at the same high plateau until the end (echoing SB's comment below). Memorable night seeing these guys rock The Moore in Seatown! Thanks for posting!
You know, I like to die for a while, every day in the afternoon.
in the middle of the afternoon
like to let the arms of a bar wrap around me tight.....
their best album by far.
@keith woodring World of Noise really is just as good.
keith woodring - Love most music that puts heart & soul into it... Everclear does that & goes way beyond it as well. Every song does NOT have a carbon-copy beat to it, talks about real heartache & loss & EVERY song ROCKS...!!!
I bought this album for 3 dollars and must've listened to it for months and months and here I am now
I don't know why I'm listening to this on YouTube. I have all of my Everclear on every single electronic device I own. I guess it's just that good haha.
Ha ha, me too! I was in the middle of a Radiohead session on my phone, and heard a bad song by them (there aren't many of them) that friends of mine like and I wondered why. Thought maybe it would get more rocking in the end like this song, but it never did. So I came and listened to this instead. :) This album has to be my most listened to album of all time. Simply amazing, and this is probably my favorite song on it.
In order to feel satisfied. I sometimes will unlike it at the beginning of the song. THEN at the end I can say "hey that song is awesome!" and like it again. haha
This song, this band reminds me of my addict and my addictive days. Some days I listen to this and I long for it, like nothing else. Especially this song. I think how great it would be to trade it all in for one more time, one more go round. Right now. Right. Fcking. Now. I think...how great those days were. To be lost in that addiction. To be wrapped in its warm arms. Sure those arms suffocated me, but hey, they sure felt good.
Regardless great song. Great band. Thanks for posting this.
TheJMoShow we begin to remember things differently than they actually were...the music gives us nostalgia for a time of misery. don't let it cool you. that feeling is gone and addiction was a bitch.
THE BEST BAND TO COME OUT OF THE '90S!!!!
best Everclear song, I love the way it just keeps building up and by the end they're just rockin out - Awesome
Theyre a funny band cos they can rock like crazy on stuff like Heroin Girl, but cruisy, cool is where they mostly reside.
AMAZING...sooo many memories! One of my favourite songs by everclear! Ill always love this band
*3 hours of listening to this song*
ONE
MORE
TIIIMMME!!!!
kewl lil tune
I think it's great but I was 16 when i got into them and after listening to music for 14 years after that... they don't really rock as hard as I thought they did back then lol
Yea. I know people like that. Some of them will never grow up lol
I have days, like today, when i'm wishing for that ability. Otherwise, one sure way to feel like you're about to breathe fire is to take a room-temperature shot of Seagrams 7. That's a mistake you don't make twice.
does anyone else really get the line "breathing fire doesn't look good on a resume?" or am i the only one who's breathed fire??
One of my Fav Everclear songs... damn thing rock my socks at the end...
Bought this CD when I was 19. Now listening to the album 16 years later (can't believe it's been that long), I appreciate the album even more. Those were great days.....
They dont make music like this anymore.
Yeah this is a sweet song. I really love The World of Noise though and the White Trash Hell EP.
Yay! Love this whole c.d.! I was so sad when it broke! Thanks for uploading!
man, i can't take the pain, of wanting her, needing her
@TheseHipsDontLie87 No problem...thanks for checking it out ;)
@TheseHipsDontLie87 ...or better yet, why even have this lame thumbs up/down system anyway? I prefer the old 5 star rating system that we had before Googletube changed it last year, oh well. Thanks for the thumbs up though, glad you like it :)
this is one of mine buty hey!! think a lot of individuals forget ..til it all comes back dude!! and man...happy to be here once again!! Back on my role. Much love to all xoxo
this song is better than the egg sandwich i'm eating. woo! damnit i have to go to work now...
No comments!!!! ?? This is one of my favourite songs of all time!
