When this song came out, I'd wasn't listening to much "radio" music of the time. I guess that I was a bit of a music snob. Underground hip-hop, blues, proto-punk, obscure this that the other, etc. etc. etc. Twenty years later, things make more sense. Santa Monica still gets regular radio play along with some of their other songs and when I hear Everclear, all that I can conclude is that "Damn, they really did rock!" Especially in comparison to so much of what one will hear on "commercial" radio. What I find interesting about this video is that in the topsy turvy unreality of 2018, this video would be considered "racist", "too white", etc. by the diversity police along with this comment. Things weren't perfect by any stretch of the imagination twenty years ago, but I do think the times were simpler and kinder. Less hostility, less despair. Heroin Girl was simply a precursor to what seems like an endless Opiate scourge of the 21st century. It's sad, but life's still a good thing. Breathing should be appreciated

I don't get it when ppl shit on Art Alexakis. This is a fucking shit real song. I love listening to the differences cause I come from the Philly dope scene - Northeast/Kenzo belly of the beast but polar opposite from west coast H. The black tar thing is a totally diff culture and it's fascinating to me. But the emotion and fuckups are all the same - especially the heroin hookups. Boyfriends trying to score on K&A with their girl waiting was the saddest and sweetest thing I ever saw. I fell so in love with how in love with they were it took two moths before I was getting regulars to shoot 3-4 bags into my jugular cause the rest of my veins were too virgin and tiny and shy.
