Evanescence - Bring Me To Life (Synthesis) Lyrics

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down, into my core
Where I've become so numb, without a soul
My spirit's sleeping somewhere cold
Until you find it there, and lead it, back, home

Wake me up inside!
Wake me up inside!
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become

Now that I know what I'm without
You can't just leave me
Breathe into me and make me real
Bring me to life

Wake me up inside!
Wake me up inside!
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
Bring me to life

Frozen inside, without your touch
Without your love, darling
Only you are the life
Among the dead

I've been sleeping a thousand years it seems
Got to open my eyes to everything
Don't let me die here
Bring, me, to, life

Wake me up inside!
Wake me up inside!
Call my name and save me from the dark
Bid my blood to run
Before I come undone
Save me from the nothing I've become

Bring me to life
Bring me to life
Bring me to life

  1. F.... V....

    still love

  2. F.... V....

    loveeeeeeeeeeeee

  3. J.... A....

It is really different from the other version...it is a different mood....nice

  4. x.... ....

I was so sad when this song became a joke...

  5. t.... a....

    It's cold right, am

  6. L.... N....

This version sounds like it could be in the soudtrack of a cyberpunk movie

  7. s.... ....

    Well this is just pathetic

  8. P.... ....

    *SAVE ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!*
    Wait. What?

  9. E.... H....

    Wow this slaps no cap

  10. T.... ....

This is fine, but personally I prefer the duet version with the male singer

  11. S.... H....

This really brings out the true beauty of the song. It's is so much more feminine and powerful without the male singer overpowering everything with 00s machismo cheese. I love it!

  12. a.... ....

i think i prefer the orchestral and rock instrument combo whether the male voice is there or not. to me, it sounds a lot more intense that way

  13. d.... ....

Honestly, this ties so much better into the rest of their work. The promoted version with the male singer sticks out like a sore thumb.

  16. P.... E....

This is so beautiful I cried. 😢❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Amy Lee is really knows her harmonies

  17. M.... ....

The memes are funny but tbh i love this song it was on my ipod

    M.... ....

Same I was known as the Evanescence goth girl of my school lmao

  18. R.... ....

To all the people complaining about other people complaining that the "original" with the male vocals better, consider the following:

    1) *this* isn't the original version *_either_* , while the original didn't have the male vocals, the arrangement was still quite similar to the studio version. I was told, that this https://youtu.be/yMlS8b6Jnsc is the *actual* original version.

    2) disregarding the sociopolitical circumstances of "studio bad, evanescence good, patriarchy, blah blah" for a second, did it ever occur to you, that the reasoning given by the studio is valid. They added a male voice, because that would be more familiar and have more appeal to the target audience at the time.

Now we can't know for sure, if the "no-male-vocals" version would have had the same popularity as the current version, but we are 100% sure that the current version was an *insane* hit. So maybe, consider for a second, that the studios decision wasn't made in an attempt to ruin the song or unreasonably push some agenda, but to sell the songs. And it worked like a charm.

  19. E.... ....

Yes, yes, and a hell of a lot more yes. I can finally truly enjoy the song again for what it is and not have to feel bad for liking "edgy" music.

  20. D.... N....

This song should be in some gothic fairytale movie

  21. l.... g....

I love this but is sounds like a movie like a full movie . Still getting chill... there is a 15 year in inside me screaming "fuck yeah"

  22. A.... M....

I get the whole story about the male part being added later by the label. But did she also mean for the song to be so orchestral? The metal feel also seems to be gone. Still nice, but just curious.

    A.... M....

I think she meant to make the song sound metal. It was just that they (the record label) want the song to add a nu metal singer to sell more.

    A.... M....

@A mechanical pencil I understand. To me, the Synthesis version feels like something that Amy wanted to do years ago, but missed the opportunity to grow into its true potential. It feels like she is looking back into what she wanted instead of looking forward to grow creatively.

  23. M.... C....

I think a more fair comparison is to an unplugged/acoustic performance - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bc00qPujRjg

  24. P.... P....

I get it, but I enjoyed the heaviness of the other version.

  25. F.... S....

This likely NOT what the song originally sounded like. The studio insisted on male vocal because they were afraid of the unfamiliar combo of punchy metal sound with ethereal female vocals. So the original likely sounded much like the 2003 release just without the male vocals. Now instead of being dicks and just releasing the original they decided to rearrange the music to make it its own little thing...

  26. L.... s....

She has an extremely powerful voice!

  27. R.... ....

I could take or leave the second vocalist, but bringing the guitar distortion and bass in right after the piano opening on the radio version sounds way better than this more classical version.

The second chorus in this version is closer to the radio version, and sounds good, but I like the more aggressive feel of the radio version.

I'm gonna side with the executives on this one. If this was the initial exposure Evanescence got, they probably still would have made it, because it is great, but those of us that like a little more aggression in our music probably outnumber those that prefer calming.

  28. S.... H....

  29. b.... ....

and now, my Elf Necromancer has a theme song

  30. S.... T....

I like this version more simply because it's just not as hard sounding. It's not better or worse, just a different arrangement. I love both versions but this is more for something id more casually listen to

  31. D.... C....

I feel like the instrumentation needs to be slightly faster/ include more notes, as to better synchronize to the lyrics. i cant get over the fact that there is like one note played per 4 words, it really unsettling.

  32. J.... T....

The version with the male lyrics always like a desperate conversation. This however, lacks that making it all the more desperate and sad as there is nobody calling back to her. It’s also strangely unnerving, and I dig it.

  33. D.... C....

I like this one much better, thanks to 12Tone for the link

  34. H.... D....

amy doesn't need a man to create a good song. fuck stupid publishers. this sounds so heavenly she can't be from earth

  35. H.... ....

This feels emptier volumetrically than the first one. Never liked the male vocals of the song, it smelled like puberty and felt pushy back then, and still now. But musically I like the first one more.

  36. D.... L....

Wow, Amy sure has a lot less energy in this song than she did in the previously-released version. Either that, or it's compressed badly and that's resulting in her voice being muffled.

  37. u.... ....

God, I love both versions. Like, I respect the artistic issues with the "original." I'd never push that kind of top-down "we need this to be radio friendly," crap on ANY artist. But they made something amazing despite that. And now this takes the original essence and ideal, and just realizes it to such a beautiful degree. And so now were left with two different takes on the same song, by the same band. And they almost seem to tell the story completely differently, and Express the emotions differently. And I find that beautiful. X3

  38. M.... ....

This is fine, and that's it. Without him, I don't like it as much.

  39. g.... ....

I prefer the edgier version that Amy hates so much, but damn, this original version, sun as she originally intended, brings more goosebumps. It brings out the distance, loneliness, and frailty she intended.

  40. M.... ....

es como un masaje para mis oidos

  41. A.... P....

Nah, the version with the male vocals was way better (she's actually even missing a few notes in this version even though her voice sounds amazing). The first version had a much more raw, grungy aesthetic, with Amy's clean vocals soaring up through the murky darkness of the rock instrumentals.

  42. G.... B....

Man if Amy Lee ever did a Bond theme, she would've knocked that shit out of the park!

  43. K.... B....

This is the best version, screw studios, eat the rich!

  44. L.... ....

I want these lyrics with the other instrumentals. The other instrumentals were more powerful.

  45. t.... ....

Holy crap they've only gotten better with time

  46. L.... ....

    I'm here from 12tone

  47. A.... C....

At some point, I stopped scrolling and just listened. This version just hit me, even more than the "original". Love it

  48. L.... S....

I think I like this version better.

  49. b.... ....

This arrangement reminds me of Jai Macdowall's symphonic/operatic version.

  50. J.... G....

If this version had come out first, I'd say that it was better.

  51. I.... ....

It's a good song, this version would be perfect in a movie setting imo, whereas the original one fits casual listening/hyping/feeling the beat better. Apples to oranges, comparing these two.

    I.... ....

I just now heard this version and that was kind of my thought: it sounds like an epic movie trailer version. This version has atmosphere and mood and the vocals are amazing, but for casual/independent listening the older version had stronger contrast.

  52. e.... ....

Thank you 12-tone - how was I unaware of this (original) version?

    e.... ....

    Same, Thanks 12-tone.

As a teenager in the 90's this version would have changed my world.

  53. s.... ....

I prefer the older version the juxtaposition of the male and female voices add something that is lost

  54. N.... ....

I don't miss the male vocal but I'd've kept the guitars. Feels like they were accidentally muted before the track was printed.

  55. T.... H....

sounds like shes looked after her voice. the studio was probs right tho

  56. W.... M....

by the second chorus it almost sounds like a song from metal gear

    W.... M....

    SNAKE EEEEAAAATEEEEEERRR

  57. D.... S....

This isnt goth rock, this is goth opera, and its so much better.

  58. K.... T....

Wow who would have thought that evanescence would be able to make such a good cover of the original. Btw does anyone remember who wrote the original?

  59. s.... ....

    Thanks 12tone

  60. F.... ....

Liking the change in background instrumentation, but some of the gaps in lyrics leave me filling them in, probably because of the earlier studio released version. I wonder if Lee could've written a new second part and done a duet with herself... Might not be performable in that fashion (without having one of the others do the second part), but would be pretty cool

  61. N.... a....

Ngl the WAKE ME UP part was always my favorite but it’s sick that she got to make it more like the original intent

  62. B.... Y....

The orchestration on this version sound's a lot like Icon era Paradise Lost.

  63. g.... t....

I love Lee’s vocal work. I do feel like the gritty, gravely counterpart added an interesting contrast, though

  64. R.... e....

Shout out from 12tone in 2019.

    R.... e....

Same here, honestly, I prefer the duet version because I prefer the juxtaposition of differing elements, but this was her original version, and to each their own.

    R.... e....

I had no idea that this version even existed until I watched that video

    R.... e....

I just came from there. Crazy how interesting the theory stuff is in his hands. Well, hand.

    R.... e....

Yeah I've came from there too

    R.... e....

    Haha same here

  65. b.... ....

The other Version is much better, bought to today this shit Album and its not a one good song on it fuck that. By the way, she s hot

  66. A.... C....

    I prefer this version

  67. J.... C....

thanks youtube for waiting to show me this after 2 years

  68. T.... B....

    Haunting....😑

  69. N.... E....

Yall are complaining about the idiot record ppl signing a male singer but would it still be as iconic without the male part? i mean this slaps but i cant help but wanna do the male part

    N.... E....

It’s only “”””iconic”"””"” because it’s what you’ve been listening to for the past decade

  70. .... ....

    👍👍👍👍

  71. A.... L....

I’ve heard the first song with the rap stuff so many times that it feels as if something’s missing here, the pause feels too long somehow, but it still slaps and I think it would have still become one of my fav songs if it had always been just this version

  72. K.... B....

This is AMAZING! Though, I must say, when first listening to it - even though I knew the story of the male lyrics in the version featured on "Fallen" being something the label basically forced them to do, and that those lyrics aren't actually used beyond that album version - there still was that initial feeling of "wait, there's something missing" for me. Haha!
It's awesome that there's now also a album featuring this track the way Amy envisioned it! :)

  73. S.... ....

I think that this song would sound better with more punchy percussion. The song sounds relatively weak when it comes to the pulse of the song. The arrangement is nice though.

  74. L.... M....

bruh I need an instrumental of this IMMEDIATELY like this shit slaps SO HARD

  75. J.... N....

Holy fucking shit, we were robbed with that original release.

    Still slaps though

  76. C.... ....

honestly this is one of few songs to give me goosebumps

  77. K.... R....

ok but this legit slaps and it sounds like the song that plays in an epic video game when the hero hits the despair event horizon??? like an instrumental of this wouldn't sound out of place in a game of the year

  78. P.... ....

Who is here from the tumblr post?

    P.... ....

Was anyone gonna tell me they rerecorded bring me to life or was I just supposed to read about it in a tumblr post about meme songs 2 years later

    P.... ....

Nope because I think Tumblr is a crap show. I'm here because I happen to like this song.

    P.... ....

    I feel called out

    P.... ....

anyone have the link to it?

    P.... ....

    Tumblr in 2019 kek

  79. U.... ....

This is my final boss music.

  80. A.... G....

Absolutely better than the older version. But I’m still not gonna be a fan of the intro where she sounds like she’s on the verge of crying.

But the rest definitely has an improvement- ditches heavy rock for a more spiritual one.

  81. s.... i....

this is great but i can't help singing the male parts. it's just so ingrained in my brain. lmaoo

  82. L.... ....

How can you see into my eyes like open doors?
Leading you down, into my core
Where I've become so numb, without a soul

    Bring me to life
    Bring me to life
    Bring me to life

  83. a.... p....

Great, you’re telling me I’m finding this AFTER I put the original on my 400 song playlist only to learn this ones so much better?

  84. C.... L....

Yo this is such a fuckin' bop!

  85. E.... A....

    Okay but... WAKE ME UP

  86. M.... E....

    Queen of vocals!!!!!!!

  87. A.... K....

The other version is better in my opinion. I prefer that style. This just isn't as fun to listen to.

Even the original demo I liked more than this. it has an electronic "edgy" style.

The version I've listened to since middlefield is still my favorite... it's not the male vocalist it's the whole style I like how it comes together. I would not have listened to this.... nothing against her not my style..

  88. 1.... ....

I like both versions, to be honest. They both have a much different vibe to them.

  89. 7.... ....

When the "wake me up" part comes but there is no male vocal
It is such a weird feeling going through my body which I can't describe but I'm basically looking like a confused/scared cat
That part is a new version of this meme
    It's like
It has a deferent feel to it
    I
I don't know what to say
    It's beautiful
Just so beautiful I wrote all this
    Oh my god
When did god start to write and sing?
    Jesus Christ-
    Oh no wait I'm Muslim
    *Oh Allah

  90. V.... 2....

Hauntingly beautiful. I would like this to play at my funeral.

  91. T.... ....

    Oh damn

  92. I.... R....

God i like this so much better!!!!

  93. A.... B....

This version of "Bring me to life" probabaly bring me to life.

  94. A.... D....

Yeah, I very much prefer this version.

  95. L.... S....

    Q_Q
    this is fucking *beautiful*

  96. C.... R....

Wow, it’s so wild that removing the male parts changes the way the song feels entirely, though there were a couple of points where something felt missing (that’s probably just the nostalgia talking though)

  97. B.... u....

    İmpressive Amy

  98. D.... K....

    ❤️👍🏻
