Etheridge, Melissa - Royal Station 4/16 Lyrics
It's so hard to listen to these trains
Outside my window here it comes again
And it's calling me begging me
Follow me down the track
And it moans so dark and low
I refuse to believe
It could happen to me and you
It's lonesome and it's hard and it's true
It got this whiskey to take care of my lips
I got these long cool steel strings
At my fingertips
I ain't got nothing to soothe my aching soul
Except this screeching and screaming iron
I refuse to believe
It could happen to me and you
It's lonesome and it's hard and it's true
I hear the train sigh
And idle down below
Why your love is so sweet and while
Is something I'll never know
It sounds like crying
It sounds like letting go
Breathing and lying
Sinking and dying slow
And I watch from my window
Touching the cold glass sky
As the train rolls down the track
I say goodbye

If ya,lo don’t understand these riff’s and crescendo, ye shall be blind to fruition.
👍🎹🎤🤓✌️👍👍👍👍👍💕
She's horrible.
No range in her voice. Every z song every album, boring, sad, whining about somebody who did her wrong.
Wawawawa
This is my favorite song by Melissa! It’s so amazing. Thank you for sharing! 🙏🏼💕
Honestly my very favorite song to try and play. So many levels! 🙏🏼
This song is phenomenal! Crying, laughing, dancing, driving, balled up in the corner. It covers every base! 🙏🏼💕
Why is it we rarely hear the best songs on the radio? Bought this CD when it first came out, yet hardly ever heard this song on the radio.
Massive ME fan since 1st album so long ago. Love this beautiful work of art song ;)
My first vacation out of college took the train from Portland, OR to Chicago to visit family and back listening to this
what album is this from?
Brave and crazy
Great song , her clipped strumming is so good
love her voice....amazing song
I listened to this song endlessly on cassette when I was in Africa back in the 90s--the whole album and the first one with songs like "Bring Me Some Water," but especially this one. It's probably my favorite of her songs (though "Ruins" gives it a run for its money). I think I may have heard she was gay by then. Didn't much care. Which gender the ex-partner you're getting drunk over is doesn't affect the raw emotion of the song any.
Reminds me of being stuck in shit hole kansas trying to leave.hey think that's what the song was about being trapped in kansas.been there done that and ain't never going back.
I remember thebby all those years ago she opened this song with let me tell you when I wrote this song ok. Ok. I was in northern England I was up in Newcastle and I was staying at a hotel there called royal station and it had a train station right next to it and I was in my hotel room
It seems alot more slower than what i remember it to be. Trying to play along on guitar.
One of my (many) faves of hers. Haunting and beautiful.
I loved Similar Features & Bring Me Some Water long before I knew her name or that she was gay.....it never changed my opinion of her, her songs r stories for everyone. But this song has always been a favorite of mine.
you would def know if you went to any of her concerts, lesbians for dayz ha ha : ) I was a massive fan since her first album which i discovered right after a bad break up, not the best time to find her... lol M.E. fan forever!
No, heard her on a jukebox at a biker bar, "Bring me some water" about 1987....I should have known by the haircut, but I didn't. You know what's even funnier....I didn't know "Queen" was gay...hahaha...now that's funny.
Where are all the other M.E. ManFans?
HERE! M.E. forever!
And another Manfan at that! Nice!
paul hell yeah My first time seeing her was when she backed up little Feet band when she had released 1st album lol

Etheridge did a lot of truly great songs but this is by far her best one.
will never get tired of this song
This was Melissa's highlight when I saw her live about 10-11 years ago. She did most of it acoustically. Beautiful song.
Used to work with her when I was a kid at Alans Aquarium in Venice, she would have little jam sessions after work at Marks place with a few of us.She was a sweet person then, and I'm sure she still is.
My prefered song of Melissa. Great!
THANKS a lot from Austria!!
Love this song!!!
I bought the CD years ago! Thank you for posting this on YT.
To add to the descriptive tags for this track: this is the album version of the song. Enjoy!

Lesbians don't hate this song - how did you come to that conclusion?
Overlooked Classic!
