I cry my eyes out whenever I hear this song, I can't explain it. I'm not even a big Gloria Estefan or Jon Secada fan. It wasn't a huge hit, it should've been, though it was a big hit on the Adult Contemporary charts, and VH-1 played this music video often when it came out. This song just hits me hard. Written In Stone by Daryl Hall and Can We Still Be Friends by Todd Rundgren both have the same effect on me.

this song has so many layers of meanings. many will hear the romantic overtones and leave it there. for me, it has another meaning - my mother passed away in 2017 and i took care of her every day for 6 months through 10 hospitals, 3 rehab centers, and 1 hospice. for me, when she says i get a little tongue twisted every time i talk to you when i see you, i imagine my mother in rehab sleeping at night and me sitting there wondering, when i leave tonight, will this be the last time i see her alive? so when i close my eyes, i still can see my mother's smile shining from her bed and i hear her voice saying my name. and the second half of the song is an inner monologue that plays over and over in my soul. tell me if made the wrong advances, tell me if i've made you feel ashamed - this question pushes me to do my best to impress my mother. there are ceilings in love and if romance is your ceiling, you're missing out on other deeper and richer ways to love someone.
