Eric Clapton - Run So Far Lyrics

You fly
Out as your smile wears thin
And I sigh
Knowing the mess you're in
And you know that you can't get away
And you know you can't hide it from yourself

Lonely days, heavy heart
No escape, can only run so far

I know
Something I ought to say
Stuck here
Trying to find a way
And you know that you can't get away
And you know you can't hide it from yourself

Lonely nights, blue guitar
No way out, can only run so far

Lonesome tears, at the bar
One way street, can only run so far

I pray
That you might make it through
Those teardrops
Now seems a part of you
And you know that you can't get away
And you know you can't hide it from yourself

Fallin' down, under par
Can't get out, can only run so far

Lonely days, heavy heart
No escape, can only run so far

Lonesome tears, at the bar
One way street, can only run so far

Lke both verions, but the back beat and other things in this one is clearer and better to me. Keyword here is clarity.

    nice update,

Run so far is about the loneliness of stardom. It is a beautiful song. I understand why Clapton wanted to record it. The two men shared a almost lifelong friendship, Seldom seen in this business.

    G.... R....

Right? Eric STOLE George's wife and they were still closer than George was with Paul at the time.

    G.... R....

No its not the song is about Clapton Heroin addiction George wrote for him wanting him to beat the addiction - As told by Eric Idle on The Beatles Satelite radio station

    G.... R....

I always though it was about Pattie Boyd's alcoholism at the time. Eric and she were splitting because he had already fathered two kids with other women whilst married to her

Sorry Eric -George's version is much better!

    E.... K....

    oh hands down.

I prefer George's version of this personally. As for "Love Comes to Everyone" I prefer Clapton's version; George wasn't known for amazing production quality, though he was an amazing writer. Brainwashed is a far better produced album than many of his late 70's/80's albums (though I still love those albums and listen to them often).

    J.... B....

brainwashed is one of the best and underrated albums ever. i like both versions respectively for different reasons, overall probably harrisons.

    J.... B....

Actually, George Harrison was a fine producer. Listen, for example, to Doris Troy's Apple album and Billy Preston's 1970 Apple album "Encouraging Words". If I'm not mistaken, George Martin himself praised George Harrison's production qualities.

Musical gold dust & then add the Clapton/ Harrison angle!

  11. L.... !....

    George
    over
    Clapton

  12. J.... B....

why isn't  that song #1 on the radio?

    J.... B....

Julie it was when Sir Terry was on Radio 2, it was one of his favourites, Georges version, Georges version is a box of Kleenex rated though.

  13. C.... M....

sure is a great tack. hell, both of them are. I really like the subtleties which set the two apart. but, even the Clapton version is very George heavy. love you, George.

  14. L.... C....

I love both guys! Clapton's is better. Come on! Smooth as silk!!!

  15. H.... ....

    A golden nugget

  16. j.... F....

    Que música linda..

  17. D.... M....

That´s the kind of song that tastes better and better as time passes by. George was already shining on this version... but he reached another galaxy at Brainwashed´s version... IMO!!!!

  18. b.... ....

What a guy, giving such a great song to his dear friend Eric. I like both versions..

  19. A.... F....

    I LOVE THIS SONG !!!!!!

  20. J.... M....

i dissagree..claptons version has a bit more feeling, and is cleaner. sorry I do love George but I am biased toward Eric.
