Eric Clapton - Don't Blame Me Lyrics
Hear my story and listen well;
Truth is in all that I tell.
It could never have been me.
I did not shoot no deputy.
Friend to my whole family.
He always tell me when John Brown
Was getting ready to come around.
[Chorus:]
Don't blame me.
Don't blame me.
I hide it all except a few seeds
And make him think I plant for me.
We've got enough for the whole island.
Three years now we sell it in town
Under the bucket that goes down.
No one knew of it but three:
Mr. Grant, Davis and me.
[Chorus]
I swear by God it is a plot;
Davis sent me here to rot.
Listen people, can't you see
Mr. Davis shot the deputy.
[Chorus 2x]

This song was highly under rated because those ass holes didn't wanna give it a major push
Love this song, he was going through a lot of phases in his life!! Forget I shot the sheriff!
Actually he was going for a more crying voice because this song is a sequel to "I shot the Sheriff" by: Marley
EC thinks he's Dennis Brown on this song
Clapton surely doing a Marley on this one...... :P Not bad an attempt....
Eric doing his best Bob Marley interpretation.
plasticglassonion222 back in those years reggae was a huge influence on all of them. sort of amusing since no one did it better than those singing it all along (and music it evolved from). note part of production on this album was done in Kingston. I remember those times well; when The Harder They Come & Bob Marley & the Wailers hit my city; we were stoked and ready. ))))
p.s. Who shot the sheriff Eric? It sure as hell wasn't you!

You really hear the Kingston sound here. His Visa ran out and Jamaica being a British country he went there and Had a vision with Mr. Marley hiself.I had no Passport so I could not go..
