There's always heartache in Eric's songs, but tomorrow...hope. My fiancee and I were in Catalina the Thanksgiving weekend in 1981 when Natalie died. It was miserable weather, wet, cold, raining. The ride over was choppy and nauseating. Not a time for boats against the current. We didn't hear of her death until we got back to San Diego. We did run into John Davidson at an art showing, who, when invited by a locally that night's square dance, laughed and said, "We're too square to square dance." X got the square in that exchange. Both Eric and Natalie were/ are of Russian extraction. No matter how bleak it may look today.... "But tomorrow..."

Yes. . . Such a plaintive phrase written by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Carmen did that phrase justice with this song. It sounds so sad. I'm thinking Eric Carmen knew and liked the book.

I met Natalie Wood years and years ago. I think it was at a political rally here in NYC.
Could have been when Mayor Lindsay was running for re-election. Petite but gorgeous. Was wearing a red dress with white polka dots... never forgot it. Loved her movies including of course Splendor... Sad loss

She had that something like so many of the smart sexy funny beautiful women during that time it was called MAGIC or SPARKLE.

This song was written and performed by Eric Carmen, it's his song not Olivia-Newton John. It was on Eric's masterpiece album "Boats Against the Current"..........Olivia recorded it as an after thought for filler on one of her hit albums.

The first time I heard this song I was blown away and couldn't figure out why it wasn't a top 10 hit. His record company screwed up and didn't promote this song.

As far as male vocalists go, I've always connected with singers Eric Carmen, Boz Scaggs and Chris Rea.

It would be cool to hear Eric Carmen and Olivia Newton-John sing this together (she recorded it for her Totally Hot album in 1978)

This man never got the attention that he deserves, I love him. Go to my channel and listen to my original songs, they are greatly influenced by Eric.
