This is so disappointing when compared to Sagas and Rekreatur. Please do not make dark music anymore. Equilibrium is supposed to sound uplifting, epic and optimistic but without going overboard with it to the point of sounding cheesy. That's why people love it in the first place. Cause it is emotional but not dark. There is enough of dark bands out there. Especially folk metal bands that decided to go dark in their recent releases. If we want music like that, we can listen to bands like Moonsorrow, Finsterforst and what not. Why can't you make an album the has the same atmosphere as the previous ones but is just a bit different in style? If bands like Dalriada can do it then you can do it too.
We can just hope they will get back on the right track with the next album and return to their old tone and atmosphere.

Yesterday, I was playing Dark souls for the first time too (yeah, I know, it´s pretty fucking late) and beat the Taurus Demon. Still remember that rush of adrenalin when beating him without the chance to survive one more hit. phew!

All I can tell you is that it's gonna get worse before it gets better, but once you start doing better it becomes the most empowering feeling

Turis Fratyr was the album that first got me into folk metal. I was 16 or 17, and it blew me away. I never heard anything like it. It also inspired me to learn some German when I was in high school. But I have to say, after listening to this a few times, it's pretty good. Bands go through an evolution so to speak, just look at In Flames. Sure I miss their traditional folk metal style, but I understand they need to change. At least I'll have Turis Fratyr and Sagas to go back to when I need a fix of some epic folk metal! Their new material is just that, new material; a new way to express themselves.

Ich hab ma vor ewigkeiten n Interview mit irgend 'nem älteren rockstar gelesen das er seine alten lieder zwar mag aber nicht mehr hören kann. Wenn man immer das gleiche macht wird es halt irgendwann langweilig. Die fans wollen immer die alten klassiker auf den Konzerten hören und er denke sich mehr oder weniger "Och nö, nich SCHON wieder"

Ich mag den alten scheiß auch lieber aber ich feier auch nicht alles was ich vor 3-4 jahren gemacht habe. Menschen ändern sich, geschmäcker ändern sich. So is das leben.

Tired of looking through the comments. Obviously a few understand, and the rest are "OMG ... I'm a whinging, self-important wanker that thinks my favorite band should never change sound or style because that's how I feel". Get a perspective.
Too often "fans" forget simple concepts: musicians are artisans. Their music is less about any of us than an expression of themselves and their developed skill sets. Artisanal progressive creativity is necessary, especially with the caliber of individuals in a collaboration such as Equilibrium. They have set a defining standard for this niche genre of metal, much in the same fashion as Rammstein did in industrial/underground metal.
I give them a flat A for the album, with 2 songs that just aren't my taste - meaning they don't fit with *my* biases or *my* heuristic prejudices for music. But nonetheless, there is a deep appreciation for their "stretching" of style and sound. It's all good to dislike a change of style or sound, personal preference is what it is. Whinging about it narcissistically? Get wreckt.
