Ensiferum - The Longest Journey (Heathen Throne Part II) Lyrics

Could my ruin have come,
My day of trouble have arrived,
In these tuonele cabins
These abodes of the dead land?
[Kalevala]

Far beyond the dark stream pagan souls will
Roam those cold lands wild and free.
Wait for the sign; a blood red sky.
Then beyond the dark stream we will ride.

The path of mortals,
So narrow and brutal.
Only bravest of them all
Will find true valours

Decaying souls of men,
Who trust in false omens,
Will drown in the stream
With their untrue beliefs.

He's been drifting
For so long,
Searching for the land.
Where heroes roam.

In the horizon,
The last ray of light,
A breeze from the other side,
Before he dies.

Dividing walls of stone,
Eternal heathen Throne,
Beneath the cold starlight.
Revealed for the purest sight.

Through constant affliction
Towards alleviations,
When a searing star is near.
Carry on, you're almost here

Far beyond the dark stream we'll meet again.
Across the wilderness and we will be home.
Gather your strength, don't be afraid.
Far beyond the dark stream, we'll meet again.

The longest journey of them all,
Has to be made all alone
A flame in the skyline reaching the stars
Guiding the seeker through the night!

  11. N.... W....

This song is about finns not vikings

    N.... W....

The Vikings went to England France North America etc because they couldn't touch the wandering man aka Finns.

    N.... W....

The land of the giants, Finland, Jotunheim for the ones who know north only by hollywood

    N.... W....

@Vilgeirr Lackoin Norse mythology was really close to Hellenic one : Jötnar = Titans

    N.... W....

@Roid Rage not how it is taught up north... :O
Pretty similar in some ways but totally different in depths

    N.... W....

@Roid Rage both are Indo European. Its no surprise that they are similar

  12. B.... ....

,, The longest journey of them all, has to be made all alone."

    B.... ....

Beheror you nailed it. That is the message. How will you face death? As a coward or hero?

  13. S.... A....

I don't know why but Finnish sometimes sounds like Malay except for the V sound which does not exist in Malay.

    S.... A....

Probably they wandered in your area in the past as they surely came from Asian continent, as well as the Hungarians and other tribes of ugro-finnish speakers

    S.... A....

@Jure Dakić Pure BS, that one. The Finns did not come from Asia, and neither did any other Uralic language speakers in Europe. The Finns are genetically the closest living people to the very oldest European populace, which means you literally won't find a more european-rooted people on the planet. The Finns (and Estonians for that matter) are a historically isolated people that split off from the same bunch of ancient settlers who also became the Germanic peoples, which is why Finns share about 90% genetic similarity with the various Germanic nations. The Finnish language also, even though it did originally come from further east, was still from the western side of the Ural mountains, in other words, *not* from Asia.

    S.... A....

    Wrong..

    S.... A....

@Heavy Metal Attack No, the Finns came originally from the south, through Estonia. There's only about 2-5% siberian ancestry in Finland, and that's because the Sámi people used to live in most of the country.

Even the names "Finn" and "Finland" used to only refer to the people and area in the southwestern tip of Finland, in the vicinity of Åland. Genetic research clearly shows the origins of the Finns are in Europe.

  14. S.... W....

They removed this and most of the album from iTunes. No clue why. Can’t listen to it there anymore.

    S.... W....

Just purchase the original cds, best case directly from the band (website, whatever), or at least directly from their label..

The Initial chant translated to English.

    English translation: (translated by "Varjaagi"):
Above the grey wilderness the ravens sing
The blood of this people melts the frost
Behold the glow of the vault of heavens
It calls us beyond the dark stream
Weaklings fall into the froth of the stream
as heroes land on the shores of the river
across eternity the song can be heard
it calls for brothers beyond the dark stream

  25. L.... G....

I'd like to hear some second opinions on this: as an Englishman and a lover of my folk traditional and culture, I have always been a great lover of the music of the great Ralph Vaughan Williams. To anyone who loves European traditional folk music I thoroughly recommend his work. Now, this is what I'd like my brothers' opinions on: listen to this song from about 02:43 until 03:15 where we have that wonderful military-sounding flute and trumpet cadence. Then compare it to the passage in Vaughan Williams's 'English Folk Song Suite (easy to find on Youtube) and listen to that piece of music from about 01:05 to 02:10. My contention is that the Ensiferum cadance is directly influenced by or (perhaps more interestingly) unconsciously continues in the same pan-European militaristic tradition, as Vaughan Williams's adaptation of the English 18th century folksong. Have a listen to both and let me know what you think!

    .... ....

Well considering Vikings and traditional folk music from 350AD still exists as there has been chests which had songs written in them and we know what Norse music sounded like, I'm guessing that Finnish music would of sounded familiar but definitely came before 18th century.

  28. C.... A....

@Bigotdweller1488 actual original Finnish originates from mongolia/Siberia fool, has nothing to do with the germanic mutts

@Golden Egg That Never Hatched vallaha is for Norse us Finns are a separate culture. The Vikings found it easier to sail.to Canada than to take on their nearest neighbors just kilometers east in Finland. Ask the Russians about 1939. Hahahaha
