Ensiferum is not viking metal.
1) They come from Finland.
2) Musically, viking metal have way more black influences than Ensiferum has. THryfing, ereb altor and bathroy can be labeled as " viking metal" musically.
But this genre doesn't really make sense.

folk metal doesnt have to have folk instruments. the whole point is that it's metal with a folk influence - metal arrangement with folk-inspired melodies and themes, which is exactly what this is. what you're talking about is folk music...

I hear inthelight on the folk instruments though. Was listening to some Hypocras earlier and the flute parts are amazing.

Suidakra was formed in 1994, Ensiferum in 1995. They were known to have played back in 1992 independently.
Ensiferum is incredible live, and this is an INSANE song to mosh to. I hope everyone who reads this comment gets the chance to mosh to this song live one day.
