Eno, Brian - King's Lead Hat Lyrics

Dark alley (dark alley) black star
Four turkeys in a big black car
The road is shiny (bright shine) the wheels slide
Four turkeys going for a dangerous ride
The lacquer crackles (black tar) the engines roar
A ship was turning broadside to the shore
Splish splash I was raking in the cash
The biology of purpose keeps my nose above the surface, oh

King's lead hat put the innocence inside her
It will come, it will come, it will surely come
King's lead hat was a mother to desire
It will come, it will come, it will surely come

In New Delhi (smelly Delhi) and Hong Kong
They all know that it won't be long
I count my fingers (digit counter) as night falls
And draw bananas on the bathroom walls
The killer cycles (humdrum) the killer hertz
The passage of my life is measured out in shirts
Time and motion (motion carried) time and tide
All I know and all I have is time and time and tide is on my side

King's lead hat put the poker in the fire
It will come, it will come, it will surely come
King's lead hat was a mother to desire
It will come, it will come, it will surely come

The weapon's ready (ready Freddy) the guns purr
The satellite distorts his voice to a slur
He gives orders (finger pie) which no one hears
The king's hat fits over their ears
He takes his modicate (indecipherable) cold turpentine
He tries to dial out 999999999
He dials reception (moving finger) he's all alone
He's just a victim of the telephone

King's lead hat made the Amazon much wider
It will come, it will come, it will surely come
King's lead hat put the poker in the fire
It will come, it will come, it will surely come
King's lead hat was a mother to desire
It will come, it will come, it will surely come
King's lead hat put the innocence inside her
It will come, it will come, it will surely come

  8. v.... j....

Eno claims many of his songs have no real meaning like Third Uncle. But I think they do have meaning...this one is about alchemy.

  9. S.... M....

Think...all the nonsense music being made when this came out. Genius

  10. F.... R....

A very great musician , virtuous but also essential
when needed, and a great composer, a genius for that time, an innovator. AND a genius as producer and sound engineer: just to mention only two of his numerous collaborations is enough to say that he was with Bowie in the Berlin Trilogy and with the Talking Heads in their best period. The rivalry in the seventies between Eno and Rick Wakeman is legendary and obviously with spectacular results.

  11. s.... ....

On this 1978 Eno collaboration he's singing some of the same lyrics but we hear it backwards

  12. l.... l....

    love this

  13. A.... D....

    “then shake it off” 😂

  14. R.... ....

only the intelligence is shared + sharing is caring | Share: you Dare (as an expression a this point)

  15. u.... ....

This album is pure stupid, smart, giddy, anxious joy!!

  16. J.... B....

    Yeah baby!

  17. B.... M....

What numbskull gave this a thumbs down!?! This is absolute genius.

    B.... M....

They probably like recording artists that are easily forgotten in three to six years. You know, the ones that only record music cranked out by known hit making producers and have all the life in their voices sucked out via auto-tune.

  18. K.... T....

Very DEVO. Not surprising, considering Brian produced the first De-Evolution LP, ARE WE NOT MEN? WE ARE DEVO! Oh, no! Brian had already started de-evolving!

    K.... T....

Katherine Turney Very CARS too if you listen closely..ahem

    K.... T....

It reminds me of One Dumb Thing.

    K.... T....

Considering the history behind it, I'd say more of a Talking Heads tribute than anything lol

    K.... T....

It's right in the title if we rearrange the letters.

  19. J.... A....

Hmm..this was Shake it Up before the Cars..Fascinating

    J.... A....

James Anderson Hey nice call, haha. Good ear.

    J.... A....

Jeff Baker It was too obvious. I hope the Cars properly thanked Eno for the "inspiration"..ahem
    😉

    J.... A....

    "Oooh, ooooooooh....." lol

    J.... A....

Hmmm. I hear Jerry Lee and "Great Balls of Fire". The sources of inspiration flow ever backwards and forwards.

    J.... A....

I was just thinking this sounds more like The Cars than it does Talking Heads. Maybe it should be called "Her Scat".

  20. R.... M....

    lead causes insanity

    R.... M....

Robert Menzel Eno is crazy. Love it.

    R.... M....

    too late

    R.... M....

Jeff Baker The best part is he is a really nice man and intellectual as well as calm....but don't let it fool you. Lol

    R.... M....

Alex Block I'd never assume or under estimate Mr. Eno! Cheers, buddy!

  21. A.... J....

God I used to drive my dad nutz rockin this song loud af waay back!! LOVE IT!!

    A.... J....

rem seeing Ultravox do this in 1980 Lyceum Hall just awesome i was 13 stuck with me forever

  22. O.... E....

Kings Lead Hat: Anagram of Talking Heads

    O.... E....

    who cares ?

    O.... E....

I always thought it was about Robert Fripp ,the "King's Lead Hat" of King Crimson !!

    O.... E....

    ksjoyjespeace long live The King!

    O.... E....

@zat oichi shut the fuck up

    O.... E....

Brian Eno cares. He said it would be what Talking Heads would sound like if he was in the band.

  23. J.... I....

Maestro Eno, one of my favorite cuts off of my favorite album!
