I'd love to picture the whole story behind the lyrics, but I have a hard time inside my head trying to figure out if she's either sitting or standing there, in the middle of nowhere.

I think it is about her relationship and is allegorical... she wants commitment..and he is leaving her not knowing where she stands after the promises he made.

I'd be fascinated to see some behind-the-scenes on this video, the way they built sets real people could be in and interact with that look like magazine ads. From what I can tell, everything is printed foam-board, no CGI, and the ads/neon signs that scroll in the background were some sort of paper or curtain that scrolls by.
