Elvis Presley - Stranger In My Own Home Town Lyrics

I'm like a stranger
Like a stranger in my own home town
I'm like a stranger
Like a stranger in my own home town

My so called friends stopped being friendly
Oh but you can't keep a good man down
Oh no, can't get him down

I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago
I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago

But my home town won't accept me
Just don't feel welcome here no more

My home town won't accept me
Just don't feel welcome here no more

I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago, yes I did
I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago
But my home town won't accept me
Just don't feel welcome here no more
I'm like a stranger, like a stranger in my own home town
Yeah, I'm like a stranger, like a stranger in my own home town
My so called friends stopped being friendly
Oh but you can't keep a good man down

I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago, yes I did
I came home with good intentions
About 5 or 6 years ago
My so called friends stopped being friendly
Oh but you can't keep a good man down

I'm like a stranger, like a stranger in my own home town
I'm like a stranger, like a stranger in my own home town
My so called friends stopped being friendly
Oh but you can't keep a good man down

  15. M.... C....

This song is great. I love it.

  16. J.... M....

Good song as all the songs the King sang. He had such a good voice and such a unique way of singing he made me feel he really meant what he was saying. So all his songs are good to hear.

  17. S.... M....

I believe This is how Elvis felt like a Stranger around people because he was so unique different a very religious at heart. but he was like a kid love to joke a have fun playing cranks a jokes on his boys playing war games a karate kicks games shaving cream a water gun fights. I bet Elvis was alot of fun to be around when he was younger I would have loved to hung out w him be his friend a be at his rehearsals. bet it would had been a blast a his concerts to. just to see him in person was always my wish but I never got to do that but I always felt knew Elvis spiritually. I love a Miss him still. but I believe he's in a better world a he's happy. in Heaven a back w his mom brother a his master Jesus Christ.

  18. M.... C....

    Love it. Fabulous.

  19. C.... S....

It never stops with unforgetting masterpeisis!!!

  20. S.... S....

Elvis back to his best after he fulfilled his movie contacts. Brilliant session full of raw passion and emotion, Elvis obviously enjoyed being back in a recording studio and singing some of the best music he'd recorded in years. Fantastic record.

  21. S.... M....

I bet there were times Elvis felt like this. a stranger. to people around him he was kind humble hearted a unique. a gorgeous.

    S.... M....

Sandra Miller what are you do when you're the most beautiful person in the world where no one can keep up with you do you settle or do you just stay humble and just go through the motions???

    S.... M....

    Absolutely 👌, 😔

  22. s.... ....

    Excellent! Thank you so much!

  23. P.... C....

I`ve been following the songs of ELVIS PRESLEY since my boyhood days. For me he is the greatest singer of the world!!!!"!

    P.... C....

Pedro Chagas Filho Yes! He is the greatest singer of the world.

    P.... C....

Pedro Chagas Filho Greatest entertainer.... well to me it’s between him and Sammy Davis Jr. they both had the full package....acting,singing,dancing, playing multiple instruments very well

  24. J.... L....

There is a bluesy wonderful harmonica under Elvis' voice...I wish that was mixed just a hair higher so we can hear it better. It makes the song so hot with Elvis' voice. Presley should have released more blues albums periodically. He even knew BB King -- (there are pictures of them together) a teaming of Elvis with BB King would have been phenomenal. This is one of Elvis' masterpieces -- a Percy Mayfield song and Percy wrote some great, memorable songs.

  25. S.... H....

KING OF ROCK'N ROLL, BLUES, "BLAC MUSIC"...FOR EVERYTHING MUSIC....😂

    S.... H....

Suvi Hintikka Yes! the greatest of all.

  26. F.... V....

    LOVE IT !!!!!!  <3

  27. G.... G....

    This is classic king.

  28. t.... ....

Elvis and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra is Numero UNO in Australia, England and Scotland with the new album, 'If I Can Dream'.
Therefor I feel this song should be considered for volume 2 as a duet with either Bruce Springsteen or Rod Stewart. Hopefully Bruce. What do other fans reckon ?

    t.... ....

+tenniscollector Bruce if either but personally I prefer just Elvis.

    t.... ....

+Majik0715 Yeah man I'm thinking The Boss also. Yes for sure Elvis version on it's own is the best. But this song (along with many others) is not very well known outside of EP fans, sadly. It needs a new shot in the arm in order to wake up the Joe publics and mainstream radio.

    t.... ....

    @tenniscollector
Agree, there are many songs that weren't released as singles they could introduce to the public.  Before the remix of "A Little Less Conversation", that wasn't known by the general public.

  29. S.... T....

    Get it Elvis!!!

  30. Z.... ....

    think you

  31. W.... M....

    Great song

  32. M.... ....

But you can't keep a good man down.

  33. B.... D....

Elvis knew the African American thing backward and forward. Yet he never admitted where he learned his root: It was from the African American / Black Community.

    B.... D....

+Benjamin David I have read on a number of occasions that he was ridiculed by his friends at school for expressing his love of the music of people like Arthur Crudup instead of the white artists who were popular with white kids at the time. I have never heard him quoted talking about race at all. It seems to me that he didn't differentiate between black and white at all - probably a good example for all of us.

    B.... D....

+Benjamin David what bullshit. Are you ignorant or got an hidden agenda..?

    B.... D....

+sigmund he's probably just an uneducated fool

    B.... D....

Benny seems to be trolling.  He posted the exact same comment in response to PatMc60's comment above.  Explains that stool eating grin on his avatar.

  34. P.... ....

LOVING THIS.....just awesome pics here.. and just great song!!!!

    P.... ....

@PatMc60 Elvis knew the African American thing backward and forward. Yet he never admitted where he learned his roots.

    P.... ....

+Benjamin David yes he did in MANY interviews, both in the 50' and in his tv special in 68.
He even attended several all blacks shows (also foundraisershows ) This is one reason why people like James Brown, Muhammed Ali and Sammy Davis Jr all were freinds with Elvis and all are quoted (and on film) saying how nice and sincere a person Elvis was. Go to the Youtube video called "Elvis and race", and "Elvis and the black community" and you can see a lot about it.

    P.... ....

you are wrong, he did in early interviews, even saying that rock n roll had been going about five years when he started, "mostly by colored folks " ( a term used back in the fifties .)

    P.... ....

And another important thing to remember is that he also was inspired by country, black AND White gospel, opera and people like Dean Martin, so Elvis became so important because the new mix of ALL these styles was something that no one had seen done so well and to that extend before.

  35. m.... o....

One of my 429 favorites.  Mine is LP1969.

  36. L.... P....

Strangers can become best friends, just as easy as best friends can become strangers.
    weird,but true.

  37. A.... C....

Oh Yeah! The KING throwin' down some blues like nobody's business.

  38. J.... ....

too many strings, other than that great song

  39. T.... Z....

Did you ever hear a song and dig it and/or identify with it so much you listened to it over and over and over and over and... well, you get what I'm saying already, I'm sure. Well this is one of those for me without a doubt. Tenth time listening to it back to back this morning already! What's up with that son? lol Sing it Elvis! :v
    Danny E Zale

    T.... Z....

  44. m.... o....

    One of my 429 favourites.

  45. c.... h....

Yea babe whooooooooo this song is about me ha yeaaaaa

  46. M.... H....

Great "Peter Gunn"-like groove, great sound, great song, and of course AWESOME performance!

  47. d.... ....

I agree with you 100 percent!

  48. 6.... ....

    Tune, choon? swuan? TUNE

  49. d.... ....

You can show some people the light and they will deny and reject it. God is real and some reject him but that doesn't mean he doesn't exist.

  50. b.... ....

Groove right in the pocket...Elvis at his peak

  51. m.... ....

    The KING #1 FOR EVER

  52. d.... ....

@nita512001 The ones shouting that ELVIS is a racist the loudest are Michael Jackson fans. Before Jacko can take the crown of music ELVIS has to be branded a racist, so that's what their agenda is. I've got news for them. It isn't going to work.

  53. D.... W....

Elvis is the one and only king of music.

  54. j.... ....

    his best

  55. d.... ....

elvis presley the ultimate king of rock'n'roll

  56. A.... L....

This song rules. The music is fantastic. That bass is groovy.

  57. N.... K....

@KRiZZxTV How could he have been racist? he worked with the Inspirations. All southerners aren't racist

  58. N.... K....

@gambitslover94 Need to check your spelling. It is Rebel

  59. M.... ....

    c'est le meilleur.....mégalo mais inégalé......

  60. R.... S....

It sounds like he and the band are having so much fun doing the song! "Play it again, play it again..." I love it!!!

  61. C.... G....

    @JosephMelia No. =]

  62. K.... T....

@HarrieKerr Yea, Memphis, Alabama, Mississippi, all around there was confederate, not anymore though. I don't think he was racist.. idk what you mean by rebel..lol

  63. K.... T....

@HarrieKerr I have aim, its ichristian2015. And yea he's dead, no doubt about. I think Tupac is alive but I know Elvis is gone. He didn't just die out of no where like MJ and Tupac. In some of his final concerts you can see his pain, he just got worn out.

  64. K.... T....

@HarrieKerr Nothing special really, actually pretty boring lol.

  65. K.... T....

LOL I live in Elvis' hometown city & state xD.

  66. b.... ....

    My all time fave song

  67. S.... ....

    Great song, great photos!

  68. D.... F....

    PERCY MAYFIELD song...nice version

  69. A.... ....

Love the blues tone to this song....

  70. f.... d....

elvis, you will never a stranger anywhere in the whole wide world.

  71. B.... A....

Let's just say Chuck Berry, Carl Perkins, Bill Haley or Little Richard tried to open a door. Then here came Elvis and smashed the door down. Then everybody came running over him like the Beatles or whatever comes next. Elvis didn't necessarily start Rock N Roll, but he MADE IT HAPPEN.

  72. A.... ....

Elvis The King of Music. The only singer able to sing in different styles of music. If it was not for Elvis, singers and bands like Michael Jackson, Beatles and others would have never existed. Jacksons and the Beatles did not had a good voice, but because of Elvis era when the world was looking for more Elvis type singers, they became famous. long Live The King! ELVIS PRESLEY. Love from Iran.

  73. b.... ....

My fave song of all time

  74. d.... ....

if im not mistaken thats bill dailey aka roger healey at 3:26, you know hes still alive, he just had to stop that peculiar degeneration common to our species and now he represents this planet throughout the universe and as usual, is only hanging in the dopest locales tcob, pcp (peace ep)

  75. S.... ....

    Wonderful rhythm, I LOVE it.

  76. M.... ....

    quel rythme !

  77. i.... ....

    LH,Finland

  80. J.... M....

Does he ever sing anything that isn't eternally cool?

  81. S.... ....

    Elvis the king..........wonderfull voice

  82. M.... ....

What are you talking about? Instead of leaving a "vague" response, why don't you qualify what you mean? Wrong about what? My husband's "opinion," regarding what songs he preferred from Elvis during specific time periods? The pic I love of him at 1:32? What? What I wrote has NOTHING to do with "right" or "wrong." If you're looking for a debate, or an outright argument, I'm up for it, but have some ammunition, pretty please, 'cause then I say bring it on! Red

  83. V.... B....

    Colossal Session!!!

  84. M.... ....

I love it when he sang the blues...my huz actually prefers his older music & doesn't care for the newer Elvis songs in the late 60's & 70's...this was recorded in 1969, but it mimics the way he played & sang when he started out. LOVE the pic him at 1:32...Yes sireee! LOL! Thanks for the share Alan! Warmly, Red

  85. J.... M....

Im like a stranger in his own home town really!!

    J.... M....

It's a song, like all the other songs, no message on conspiracy nothing personal, ONLY A SONG!

  86. J.... K....

nice video! Thanks for posting and sharing for Elvislina! *****

  87. k.... ....

Elvis was a very talented man. I love this one and High Heel Sneakers, Down in the Alley. Elvis was multi talented. Yes when it came to Elvis' music he was a serious worker and poured his heart and soul into every song he did. Elvis is a wonderful man. I love Elvis.

  88. m.... ....

This is the King in his prime. People rarely credit Elvis for the vast amount of material he created, more than just about anyone else from his era. The man was a workhorse with a solid work ethic. Memphis Sessions is the perfect balance of the vitality from his youth and the maturity as a man and his growth as a singer. Most Elvis fans have never even heard this great track, just another gem lost amongs all the gold.

  89. C.... P....

Excellent song!!! Elvis kicks blues better than blacks.

  90. C.... P....

    Nice song.
