Elvis Presley - I'm Left, You're Right, She's Gone Lyrics

Well, you're right, I'm left, she's gone.
You're right, and I'm left all alone.
Well, you tried to tell me so,
But how was I to know
That she was not the one for me?

You told me all along,
You're right, our love was so wrong.
But now I changed my mind,
Because she broke the ties that bind,
And I know that she never cared for me.

Well, I thought I knew just what she'd do,
I guess I'm not so smart.
Oh, you tried to tell me along
she'd only break my heart.
I'm left, you're right, she's gone.
You're right, and I'm left all alone.

Well, she's gone I know not where,
But now I just don't care.
For now I'm falling for you.

If you'll forgive me now,
I'll make it up somehow.
So happy we will be,
In a home just for three,
And I'll soon forget her,
Now I know.

Well, I thought I knew just what she'd do,
I guess I'm not so smart.
You tried to tell me all along,
She'd only break my heart.

Well, you're right, I'm left, she's gone.
You're right, and I'm left all alone.
Well, she's gone, I know not where,
But now I just don't care,
For now I've fallen for you.

What is that knocking on wood sound with the reverb? I always hear it in old records like this.

  2. a.... ....

    Long live the king!

  3. s.... k....

One of the catchiest songs I have ever heard.

    s.... k....

@shivam kardile correct, Scotty killed it with those killer licks! He could have played it safe and stuck to the scales, but no, he was a risk-taker. His risks paid off. And the beginning - I can listen to it a hundred times.

    s.... k....

@shivam kardile you. Are absolutely correct. This. Is fucking. Incredible rock n’ roll. Insanely catchy. Loving it. From Switzerland.

  4. S.... J....

There will never be another Elvis. Also much praise to Scotty and Bill.

  5. B.... M....

So this is where CCR started....

  6. P.... N....

According to Wikipedia, this reached #21 on the UK chart, despite being released before any Elvis singles had reached any of the American charts . I wonder if it charted that earlier, or if it was re-released after his other hits had made it.

  7. S.... J....

    Awesome!

  8. b.... ....

I just read in John Fogerty's book ' Fortunate Son ', how he admits using the SM guitar lick for ' Bad Moon Risin', out of honor to him.
He adds that one time, someone came up behind him & put their arms around him & said " Give me back my licks!" "I turn around & it's Scotty Moore. "I stole everything I know from you!" "What a great memory!"

  9. a.... ....

Such a killer tune! Scotty kills it on this one!

  10. F.... B....

It’s different but l Love it ! Elvis was always training his voice !

  11. G.... M....

    Awesome music.

  12. J.... L....

Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones cites in his book that this Scotty Moore guitar as one of the solos that knocked him out as a kid.

And yes, I agree, this is also the roots of where Creedence Clearwater Revival (CCR) sprung from.

  13. M.... P....

Bad moon rising riffs. Creedance would never have been without Elvis Scotty and bill and this sound. The riffs in bad moon rising are straight up no doubt "borrowed" from this

  14. j.... s....

drummer was James Lott a high school student

  15. D.... H....

You are absolutely right John Strong. It 'was' truly worth it. Every second of it - plus just the fact that I was there.

  16. D.... R....

This, Mystery Train, and Tryin' To Get To You are my favorite Presley tunes ever. No, I lie, my favorite tunes of any artiste ever.

    D.... R....

Check out Tryin To Get To You By The Eagles On Mercury and you'll hear where he got it from. One of my favs as well. Thanks For the comment , Jack

    Was worth it David. Thanks

  20. j.... e....

Hmmm...so THIS is where John Fogerty got the inspiration for some of the guitar part on Bad Moon Rising..?

    j.... e....

Amen Jon , Along with Carl Perkins.

  21. M.... A....

    Very nice

  29. S.... 3....

A classic Sun recording and the guitar break was copied by so many other guitarists over the years . A tribute to Scotty and that wonderful sound of the Sun studio . Awesome

  30. a.... m....

    Beautiful the king

    a.... m....

    The king of rockabilly.

  31. V.... E....

I miss elvis presley because they should have never putten him on too much drugs in his system rip elvis presley my best friend

  32. N.... ....

This is the first time I ever heard this. Scotty always blows me away. The word is 'surprising'. He always throws some off the wall lick in that no one could have predicted. He really took chances. He could have played safe and done pentatonic scale licks. But nooooo... he had to do something new.
Elvis was innovative in his vocals and his 'rebellion'. Well, although Scotty doesn't look the part, he was as rebellious as Elvis. Scotty looks like a government bureaucrat but when he picks up the guitar, he becomes James Dean in Rebel Without A Cause. When he throws in his incredible licks, it's like he's shouting to other guitarists, "Top THAT, mofos!".
The sound of his guitar is amazing. And it's not just the instrument, it's his style. The sound is sharp and piercing, but with that Gibson fatness at the bottom that comes from the jazz sound.
I would have loved to have met Scotty just to shake his hand. I guess I'll have to be content just getting lost in his playing.
    RIP, dude.

  33. C.... S....

  41. K.... C....

Very Good ,i still think The Sun Sessions was Elvis best album.

    K.... C....

    Thanks Kevin.

  42. J.... I....

The first time I heard of Elvis was 1955. I was in the 7th grade and a girl had written in pencil on the back of her jacket, "Elvis Presley". I'm wondering who in the hell is Elvis Presley. He was on Louisiana Hayride. I had never heard of him.

  43. A.... ....

the blue moon boys are now all reunited.

    A.... ....

D J is still alive as far as i know

    A.... ....

D.J. wasn't part of the band when this was cut. He joined when Elvis was at Shreveport doing the Louisiana Hayride. Only Elvis, Scotty and Bill were on the five Sun singles.

    A.... ....

    They are now :(

    A.... ....

    They are now :(

  44. W.... D....

I love all the first/ old song

  45. D.... F....

What a classic piece of guitar playing behind Elvis

  46. S.... ....

Can't beat the RNR oldies especially when Elvis is singing and Scotty Moore is playing the song, wonderful stuff, thanks mate, cheers..

  47. J.... ....

how was I too know?... she never care for me...

  48. D.... ....

    RIP Scotty...

  49. S.... J....

    Elvis is still the king.

    S.... J....

Jimi Hendrix is the King of Rock and Roll!!

    S.... J....

Sterling Blake Of course not. Jimi might be good but to be honest, everybody knows who is the king of rock 'n' roll, yes buddy, he is Presley. Before rock and roll was cool, Elvis was the rock and roll.

    S.... J....

    CRAP. Hendrix was shite.

    S.... J....

    @Sterling Blake jimmy who

    S.... J....

Sterling Blake yes, and Elvis is king of music.

  50. j.... s....

    go Scotty go

    j.... s....

Amen , Tx for the comment , Jack

    j.... s....

jennifur sun Scotty made Elvis the "STAR" he turned out to be

    j.... s....

he, Bill and D,J. Definatly helped. I like a lot of different drummers and lead guitar players but if someone asked my fav those two would be the first ones out of my mouth

  51. R.... ....

I don't see listing for DJ Fontana, wasn't he on the drums? He was just as much one of the four fore fathers of Rn R as Scotty & Bill.

    R.... ....

D J didn't record on any of the Sun recordings as far as I know. There are no drums on this cut. Thanks for the comment. Jack

    R.... ....

+John Strong Jimmie Lott is on the drums on the recording. He plays the Highhat the whole song through and on the snare he just plays some fills between the verses while the the backbeat comes from the slapped upright bass

    R.... ....

Quite correct Puck. D.J. wasn't part of Genesis Chptr 1 v.1. It was Elvis, Scotty, and Bill n Sam Phillips and some drum fills by Lott as you quite rightly point out.In the beginning there was Sun 209 from 706 Union!

  52. t.... ....

That first note gets me every time. I could listen to this 10 times in a row.

    t.... ....

i listened to this 18 times in a row yesterday

    t.... ....

Three notes actually. Little half step slide up from the start note and than a pull off to the start note.

    t.... ....

    is that All

    t.... ....

And that damn break! So sharp and so clean it cuts your brain. Slashing guitar, thumping bass, and a sassy drum, with Elvis strumming and driving the whole thing. Thanks, guys!

    t.... ....

Tom Beveridge it is a shaker.

  53. M.... P....

this is definantly the roots of creedance

    M.... P....

Indeed, when I heard those guitar riffs I thought: "So this was the inspiration for John Fogerty to make "Bad moon rising"...

    M.... P....

Who is Creedance and Jon Fogerty, are they a band or something? Was there music after 1959?

    M.... P....

Possibly but who the hell cares when Elvis is in the house?????

    M.... P....

Yep. The Rolling Stones and the Beatles also liked this. Keith Richards once said that he had no idea how Elvis, Scotty and Bill pulled this off. The guitar licks and all

    M.... P....

@David Robinson are you serious look up their stuff you will love it

  54. e.... p....

Shit, Elvis was the "boss" way before that fucking commie Bruce Springsteen came along

    e.... p....

Bruce sucks compared to the King

  55. e.... p....

what could be better than this?

    e.... p....

Tx for the comment , Jack
