Elvis Presley - Harbor Lights Lyrics

I saw the harbor lights

They only told me we were parting
Those same old harbor lights
That once brought you to me.

I watched the harbor lights
How could I help it?
Tears were starting.
Good-bye to golden nights
Beside the silvery seas.

I long to hold you dear,
And kiss you just once more.
But you were on the ship,
And I was on the shore.

Now I know lonely nights
For all the while my heart keeps praying
That someday harbor lights
Will bring you back to me.

Man you people are stupid, don’t let Elvis fans listen to this shit, this ISN’T Elvis !

  6. J.... D....

    Irh1966 - This isn’t Elvis, you fool!

    J.... D....

lrh1966 - How the hell would I know, I just know it isn’t Elvis. You must not be an American.

    J.... D....

Yes it is Elvis from one of his variety albums.

    J.... D....

lrh1966 - No this is Not Elvis. Do you know how many Elvis impersonator there are. You wouldn’t know Elvis’s voice if he came back and sang to you personally.

    J.... D....

lrh1966 This is a wannabe Elvis from Hawaii no doubt. You better see an ENT doctor to get your ears checked.

    J.... D....

@John Dear It's him the same record released by Sun Records! Besides no impersonator no matter how good could do his voice! Mostof them tried but gave a cheesy and stupid imitation!

I'm a huge Elvis fan and have been my whole life. I heard this when I was a kid and for at least a decade never remember hearing another version. Since then I have heard several other versions, but, for some inexplicable reason, haven't heard this one for a long time. I was watching a MASH episode and they had a version I couldn't make out whose, but I knew it was Harbor Lights. It hit me I haven't heard this version in a looooong time. I had to hear it. It sounds as good as I remember, thanks.

lrh1966 your welcome Elvis always had a good voice the power voice was in the seventies the rockabilly style the 50s but his voice was actually at his best in the early 60s the voice control the smoothness the range that voice of Elvis is highly ignored is best singing and far as range high and low in control was 1960 to 1964 that's when Elvis's range was at his best he always can sing certain songs really well but it's been strange was the early 60s

  24. G.... B....

  27. T.... M....

I wouldn't have recognised his voice here. It sounds like a young voice. It became a super baritone, deeper, richer and more resonant as he grew older. Listen to him singing Blue Christmas for instance. His voice is quite different by then, and better I think.

    T.... M....

Thanks Trevor for listening and have a great week from Lloyd :)

    C.... C....

Thanks for checking it out and have a great day from Lloyd.

  42. P.... B....

Very good version of this 1930's song of  Frances Langford (1937). But the greatest version  is  the finnish (also 1937, early birds) Dallapé, Harmony sisters (a fixture in Scandinavian popular music from late 1930's to early 1960's). Look for Dallapé Sataman. No messing around there.

    P.... B....

I will check out those versions sometime when I get a chance. Thanks Perus for giving this song a listen and have a great day from Lloyd.

  45. H.... S....

It's ironic that I found this on August 16, 2016. I've never heard this one before. Never knew he sang this.

    H.... S....

This one does not get played much on oldies radio and could possibly explain why you have not heard it before. Thanks Howard for checking out this Elvis song.

    H.... S....

Harbour Light" was recorded 20th January 1956 at Sun.First released on LP".Legendarry Performer Vol 2" on January 1976.

    H.... S....

I heard this song sung by The platters first.Elvis after too.

  46. E.... P....

Elvis could have gone much further as a song artist if he would have found his purpose and never touched drugs and would most likely would be with us today still singing had he done these things.

    E.... P....

I agree and it is a shame many artists left like this. Thanks Eric for checking it out and commenting.

    E.... P....

I agree with you with the added point of Colonel Tom Parker not getting hold of him. If only.

    E.... P....

    Eric, it breaks my heart

    E.... P....

Or he could've DIED IN AN EVEN WORSE, AND MORE HORRIBLE MANNER--DISMEMBERED IN A CAR ACCIDENT, FOR EXAMPLE, had he been as squeaky-clean as the Pope, Nostradamus...

  50. A.... M....

Siempre Elvis.

    A.... M....

Thank you Antonio for listening to this early Elvis song and I have another 1954 song by Elvis here at the link... https://youtu.be/a6Ne9VLpByE

Cover of a Bing Crosby song. Don't know if true or not, but J.Cash's biography says this was the first song Elvis recorded at Sun Records. Sam Phillips was so disappointed he asked them to take a break, during which Elvis started playing 'That's All Right'. Phillips asked them to try that as a recording, and the rest is history....

    c.... ....

cmloz wasn't that the song It Would'nt Be The Same Without You, on that session?

    c.... ....

I Think the first song he recorded was "My Happiness" which he recorded to know what his voice sounds like on the record.

    c.... ....

The first thing he recorded was that record for his mom. That's how he was discovered by Marion and she told Sam Phillips about him. Sun records has several Facebook pages. Join one and you'll learn a lot about Elvis and Sun records. That's how I came across this song. I'm not sure when it was recorded. Need to do some research.

  57. R.... J....

How many 19 year olds have sounded like this, before or afterwards ?
Utterly wonderful. One of the most beautiful tracks by the Sun King, and the most
    overlooked.

I agree with you on that. These are all great artists you mentioned above that helped evolve the music genres they played in at the time. Thanks for listening to this Elvis P. recording...Friends, Lloyd.

  64. v.... ....

Presley took the many influences to his music -- from Arthur Crudup to Bill Monroe to Joe Turner to Dean Martin -- and made something fresh and exciting out of it. His Sun recordings are as essential to rock 'n' roll as Louis Armstrong's Hot Five sides are to jazz.

  65. l.... ....

Thanks for listening to this Elvis P. recording...Friends, Lloyd.

  66. M.... K....

I was born in 1942 and when this guy died it was like losing a brother, me and him were so close, we used to go into a tough dance hall called the Tudor, and when an Elvis record was played, [a DJ. with a Dansete]' the girls would scream and rush to the dance floor, and we'ed be there, sideburned, dark-eyed, waiting-for-em.

  88. c.... ....

I love the Hawaiian guitar. He sounds so young on this record. I still love him. I wonder who is whistling. No one has ever come along to take his place. It is too bad he left us so young and it is too bad he couldn't have had a more normal life.

  89. l.... ....

I think he could have been as well. Thanks for checking it out...Friends, Lloyd.

  90. c.... ....

A very young Elvis. He did it his way with Hound Dog but he could have been the No. 1 pop singer of all time.
