Elvis Depressedly - Jane, Don't You Know Me? Lyrics

Jane, don't you know me?
I was crazy, I was high
But it don't excuse what I done, no
I ain't good for no one

Jane, don't you know me?
I feel our distance, by and by
When I see your smiling pictures
Another birthday in december

I am tangled up in our past
I am falling off the wagon
On and off the wagon
On and off the wagon crazy for you

Jane, don't you know me?
I am searching through my mind
And I can feel my spirit weaken
Worn down through the seasons

Jane, don't you know me?
If you're happy I'll get by
And I hope you will forgive me
The way that we forgive our bad dreams

I am tangled up in our past
I am falling off the wagon
On and off the wagon
On and off the wagon crazy for you
Jane

  33. D.... S....

any advice for someone wanting to get into analogue recording?

    D.... S....

it's a worthwhile venture, but can be very frustrating. digital recording is wonderful too, very expansive. but analog has a character like nothing else. the best advice for anything creative i can give is to dive in and learn what you don't know, then you can confidently stand on what you do know while you look for answers to what you don't. in all art, intuition is key, and listening to the heart. as far as equipment you can't go wrong with fostex tape recorders, finding one with a digital display and proper ways to get your music off the tape and to a digital file will save you headaches.

  34. O.... G....

This is incredible thanks u so much

    h.... l....

    @elvis depressedly 💙💙💙

  37. C.... ....

Curious how you would rank your own albums from least favorite to favorite, and how do you choose which project a song lands in?

    C.... ....

i'd say my favorite's are "my first love mends my final days" "loss memory" and "depressedelica" all three are very personal projects that i wanted to have a definitive quality to...not that this will be the last elvis depressedly album, but if something happened where i could no longer make music i would be content to ride out on this note.

  38. D.... B....

Hi Mat, you're fucking sick. Will you ever come to Nashville?

  39. D.... Z....

What inspired you to start incorporating more samples into your songs? Any cool new hardware used on depressedelica?

    D.... Z....

the first really heavily sample based song i made was on my first album as coma cinema in 2009, but it took me a long, long time to learn the technology to make the things i want. There are some voice recording and effect processing techniques on depressedelica that I have never heard used elsewhere, i'm sure they have been i just haven't heard it. when the album drops keep your ears peeled for some odd sounding choirs and horns that are half human and half digital samples, i am really excited about the sample based songs too, one of them is made almost entirely with nintendo 64 instrument patches pulled off different cartridges.

  40. X.... ....

What’s the inspiration for the new record?

    X.... ....

the title is a play on screamadelica, primal scream's most well known album and sonically a masterpiece that has always really fired me up. i think many people like elvis depressedly because of the lyrics which is cool, but i wanted to make an album that sonically could resonate as much as words do, and i hope i've succeeded. instrumental music can be as powerful as vocal music, sometimes in a way vocal music can't, so while there aren't instrumental songs on the album there are more chances for the instruments and grooves to take the reigns which i feel was stepping out of my comfort zone and it lead to some of my favorite music i've had a hand in.

  41. c.... t....

    Do u like fishing?

    c.... t....

I love it honestly but I no longer do it because i am no longer ignorant to the pain of fish. i wrongly thought catch and release did not hurt them because of things I was told growing up, but now I just go to the lake and relax, feed the ducks (not bread though!) and take in the peace.

  42. R.... ....

whats that "hey!" sounding thing that comes in around 1:10?

    R.... ....

it's a sample from an old roland sampler i have that uses ZIP DISKS which is crazy. I've always loved the percussive "hey!" shouts in music by the dream, new boyz, and 80s sample based stuff like art of noise so i wanted to get something like that on an elvis depressedly album.

    R.... ....

elvis depressedly totally. Love the tune. can’t wait for album to drop😎

  43. J.... P....

mat - you first floated the album title 'depressedelica' a long time ago, maybe even before 'new alhambra' came out. how has the focus/goal of this record changed in the intervening years? 'new alhambra' centered thematically around christianity, judgment, end times, late nite televangelism, wrestling...are there any overarching themes you can point to on this LP? thank you for continuing to push yourself sonically and trust your instincts - it is a continual gift to be able to watch you evolve.

    J.... P....

your comment is really kind. It's true that i've had this idea kicking around forever, and while the album is not meant to be experienced as a medley of songs interconnected into two larger songs like new alhambra there are a lot of overarching themes on depressedelica. i was really inspired by the the zhuangzi and it's enigmatic dive into inner space and what it is to be a person. depressedelica is part a big tribute to the music i've loved since i was a small child, and also an attempt to understand the way we experience the things, places, and people we love in our chaotic world that is growing more and more digitally focused. sometimes i feel like our reality is becoming indistinguishable from a virtual one, and to me music is the communicating language of the soul, so i wonder how deeply the ever digital world effects something like music, that to me is the center of my universe.

  44. P.... ....

How much do you distinguish Elvis Depressedly from your other projects? Is the approach to songwriting different?

    P.... ....

because elvis has been so often a live performing group over these last few years my writing for that project shifted to things that I thought could move people in that setting, so in a way i've always seen it as my pop project, which isn't as limiting as some might think. sometimes wanting a song to be catchy first, and meaningful later leads to songs with bigger meaning that you ever intended, kind of like when you can turn your mind off and meditate you can often discover things about yourself you never would have been able to force out. also the band being backed by a great label like run for cover allows me to do things for that project that aren't as feasible for other projects. I think no matter what it's good to not have all your creations in one basket, you never know what a simple name change can do for your thinking and creative process.

    P.... ....

elvis depressedly thanks for answering, really looking forward to the album!

  45. T.... G....

Do you ever write while you record? Is every song different? what works best for u <3

    T.... G....

i usually go in with 75% of the album written and then let the remaining songs find me during the process. every song is definitely different but i think it's important to find a place where your mind can just freely flow from idea to idea, be it on long walks or driving in the car or working in the studio. everyone is different and i think when folks have trouble keeping up the pace with their writing it's usually from being overworked in one type of way, and a change of scenery no matter how small can make a huge difference and open the doors holding back your creative ideas.

  46. v.... ....

I love this song so much. Thank you so much Mat

  47. M.... :....

Would you ever do a collab with Sam ray? I think it would be the most amazing collab

    M.... :....

He already did many years ago (Gremlins) but I don’t think they talk much anymore and I remember mat saying on curious cat that they don’t even know each other that well. I asked Sam a few years back the same question and he kinda made me feel like a jerk for asking saying how they’re practically best friends and that they worked on tons of music together so I should know better blah blah blah... I’m just really confused on their relationship honestly lol - good luck getting an answer from Mat on this!

    M.... :....

mat has some credits on teen suicides "honeypot" album. p sure they hate each other now though

    M.... :....

I think Sam is very talented and has made countless great albums and will continue to make great music. We fell out as friends a few years ago but I have no hard feelings towards him. I think we both have very different philosophies of what music is to us, but I think he loves music as much as anyone. I don't think we will be working together on any music but I think we're both appreciative of being able to come up around each other when we did, there were a lot of really magic times and i still think "to be close to you" is untouchable when it comes to music out of that time.

  48. b.... p....

love u mat, u are music’s saving grace

    R.... F....

@Dannos UwU I think so, and it won't be as long a wait, i'm already at work on it so we'll see.

    R.... F....

@Michael Waves only blunt smoke memories

    R.... F....

that's an interesting question. at first it scared me a lot. i started this project because my first musical project "coma cinema" had begun to gather attention and i felt too much pressure to continue for a while. i came up with elvis depressedly as a means to have fun creating for creating's sake again, and ironically this project got more attention than coma cinema had. I think for a long time I was worried about being cool but now that i'm older i'm more concerned with remaining sincere to what i think the most exciting music is. this album is probably the first where i really tried not to listen to the doubting voice, and i think it lead to some really interesting and new (to me) styles of music.

    R.... F....

@David it's mostly me, with rachel levy, erik phillips, and caroline white who makes music as infinity crush contributing some parts that i'm really excited for the world to hear. also covelline blue took the cover photo, and was a huge help getting the album over the finish line from a morale stand point, they're band normal state is a big influence and source of joy for me, it's one of my favorite projects going.

    R.... F....

what are some artists you admire/listen to?

  62. D.... U....

A masterpiece. Can't wait for all the album to come out

  63. m.... ....

  65. R.... R....

Sold to this, can't wait for the new record to drop!

  66. *.... ....

finally new elvis! i was about to listen to hotter sadness again

  67. B.... ....

uff, cómo me va a costar digerir esto.
